: Normal Oil Consumption?

Any ideas on what is regarded as normal oil consumption for the Mini Cooper petrol engine? I know this varies with different cars but at what point would one say it is due to engine ware or a fault. I am used to cars going a full 10000 without using any oil but my Cooper has used half a litre in the first 2000 miles which I suppose could be due to pistons not fully bedded in.

I don't know about the first 2000 miles as I didn't own my car at that point. But i've driven 20,000 miles since and i've never had to put a drop in myself, and I do use the whole rev range ;) :D

Never had to add a drop of oil to mine, even between 15k mile oil changes (I won't let this happen again). Now that I have the Fumoto oil drain valve I do my own oil change. The previous, original, drain plug was torqued too tight for me to risk stripping the thread to remove it. But now I'm free to change the oil every 7500 miles.

Mine used about half a litre over the first 2000 miles and since then has not used any.

Someone just reminded me we can't have oil threads without mentioning change intervals..........
