For first 3000km, keep rpm under 3500, not going fast than 100km/h. Don't keep driving at a speed or rpm for too long (5 mins??), especially when you drive on freeway.
Pay some $$ to have your oil change at 3000km, but not wait until your first free oil change at BMW after 1 year.
It's that simple. Any other suggestion?

Its too bad that I have to drive on freeway very often since I live in Tuen Mun......Hope it's not going too harmful with my car.

I think I'm go to change the oil as soon as its reach the first 500km (Hopfully in 5 days :p).

Moreover, I use Mutol 300V 5W40 all the time with my pervious car. Is it ok for MC too? Any good recommedation of motor oil for MC other than my choice. Thx.

try to use all RPM range at all time. I mean... change gears at many times as you can. let the engine run between all range from 0 to 3600 or 4000. by this way your car will run smoother than other car in higher RPM. It has been proven by a lot of mini and bikes. it is not about the lower rpm the better or the other way. it is about the mixture of the driving style.
BTW, the moment of truth is about the first 500 miles after that it will be all history. are you going to have a healthy, good and powerful engine, it will depend on what you do with it in the first 500miles.
Try to break it in as fast as possible. and try not to stay in traffic too much. the worst and the hardest thing to do sometime.

Oil change, it is not necessary to change that offen. everything has a downside. try to stay with one type of engine oil for a while. Remember, do not take most of the online stuff too seriously(include mine) everyone drive different way. if you are not going to push it too hard, todays engine IS more than enough for you to drive without a oil change to 10k.

We are no longer drive a 86 VW. this is 2004 if the engine need the fast to do an oil change, all engineer need to be fired.

Just my 2c

Try doing a search on "break in" or "run in". :) I think you'll find heaps of information there. Good luck with the car :)

Welcome to the Mini family! Especially the CVT!
Most important is the first 500km. Run it smooth and try not to be over 100kph. Then from 500km to 3000km, try every mode in your CVT, D and SD and +/-. That is to get a feeling of what the CVT is capable as well as you are adjusting to it too. I still suggest an oil and filter change at 3000km. No need to use very pricy racing oil as you won't appreciate it totally at this stage. But the golden Mobile 1 used by BMW is of course good enough, a bit pricy too. Then have another oil change when you have your first year service with BMW (end of first year or when you come to 15000km).
I guess the '05 Mini is much smoother than the earlier ones. But you may still consider some of the things we put it such as air filter, spark plugs, cables, HVS, etc. And of course the decorations too :p .... Have fun..See you at the next Mini meet (8/8?) and you can know more from the other guys...

I remember reading it from the maintenance booklet that came with my MINI S to stay within 4500rpm for the 1st 2000km only, and we can do whatever we want with it afterwards.
