Hmmm, ok i need opinions!

I have been thinking all day, about my current order, the Cooper, and the fact I really do actually want the S. I phoned the dealer today, and enquired if it was ok to change, and she said yeah no problem, but the waiting list is until next march/april! A long wait. Is the cooperS worth the wait? It would let me get more money sorted, to afford it and stuff, i'm not sure what to do! as also, alot of my options, alarm, ss+ etc all come std on the S! So it wont cost 3k more, so its a damn hard choice! Need help!

WAIT AND GET WHAT YOU WANT! YOU WILL BE THAT MUCH HAPPIER. You only live once. So, why settle for settle for second best (in terms of what you want) because of a slight delay in delivery and the relatively small amount of money more? NO SECOND GUESSING ON GETTING WHAT YOU WANT.

Yeah. This is what im thinking, I am a little bit concerned I might regret getting the cooper, when i kno in my own mind next year i will get the S anyway, so may aswell put up with the wait now i guess. Any other opinions?

If you know you want an S, and can afford an S, get an S! The wait should not make a difference.

Is the waiting list for the S really this much longer though?!?!?! It seems ludicruous!

Rob, I agree... I originally intended to get a cooper, but foolishly test drove the S, knowing that it was a really financially irresponsible thing to do. As it turned out, it was... I loved the S, spent about a week doing the sums to work out whether I could afford it, came to the conclusion that you're only young once and ordered one. So here I am, looking at a remaining bill of about £16k that needs to be paid in a month, but with a HB/HB MCS arriving on the 1st Sept! Bring it on!
The only thing I would say is make sure you can get insurance on it that isn't too outrageously expensive... I've had quotes of up to £4k!

the thing that annoys me is the wait till next march! Its a major backache. Is it actually worth it? I can see me ordering one next year any how. I am just soooo impatient. especially with cars.

Yes that wait for an MCS does seem ludicrous... I was told by my dealer that if I ordered my MCS again now it'd be a November delivery, so March/April does seem odd. See if you can talk to someone else at the dealership. Talking to another dealer won't help too much, as they've all got different allocations which may or may not be filled up and I guess you'll lose your deposit if you take your order off to another dealer. Someone else at the dealer may know a bit more about what slots they have for MCS's in the production line...

Of course the other thing you could do is simply wait for the Cooper, see how you get along with it and then order an S after a bit if you think you want to upgrade. If you sell the cooper privately you won't lose too much in the first year, less than a grand certainly...

hmm yeah. I am gonna say you said november, and see what she says, and i wil see if i can get justification for march delivery. march is 8 months. i cant hold tht long! but then the other of me says i should.

i was in the same boat as you Rob, i could afford the S and i do want the S but im not getting it yet as the cooper is a damn good car and im only 19! true you only live once but it will leave you with one big debt, the Mini Cooper is a fantastic car there is plenty of time for the S....

I think get the cooper, enjoy it, have fun and then if you still want the S in a year or so, sell it and get an S, that way you will appreciate it so so much more

Just my thoughts! and insurance will be a killer mate

Hmm. It's a tough one and only you can decide! Surely you don't have too long to decide though? If you've got an early sept delivery I'd have thought your cooper will be hitting the production line pretty soon.
I think you're right though.. if they say definitely march then get your cooper and have fun in that for a while... but if they say Nov I'd say go for the S. If you can afford it you won't regret it!

L13 - I think I'd definitely have done the same as you at 19... I'm 26 and had to think bloody hard about whether I could justify getting the S, especially with insurance! Think I was still rattling round in a A reg Volvo 360GLS until I was 21!

If it's Sytner in High Wycombe its probably because the demand for them has increased. I know the guys down at Sytner GX and they are quoting longer delivery times than when i got my last two cars through them.

You should be able to get it much sooner than March from a different dealer.

Rob,

Think seriously about taking the cooper, and plan to order an S say a month after collecting it. You won't regret the Cooper as it's a hoot and can still look forward to the S. At least you'll be driving a Mini whilst on the stupdily long waiting list!

I currently have a cooper and am debating wether the next Mini will be a cooper or an S (following an S test drive). As I see it, the S is very focused and the power increase is great. But 25-27 mpg is a killer, especially when my Cooper will do 35. Insurance isn't too bad for me (£550 S against £380 Cooper) though.

I still can't decide myself, but I know one thing, i'm glad i'm driving a Mini now whilst making the decision!

Good thread by the way, if i'm swayed either way, i'll post my decision!!

I can't believe they have given you such a long wait time!!
I ordered my S in June and it is going to be witht he dealer the 13th of August!!

I have had a One a Cooper and now have an S ordered, the S is what i wanted form the get go. If i could have got the S in the first place i would have, but i was only 19. I shouldn't have brought the Cooper and gone staright to an S, because know i would have had most of it paided off, but know i get to start again! :(

I wish i got 35mpg out of my Cooper, i think it was more like 30mpg, and most of the people that i have spoken to about the S get around 29mpg, so at the moment i am not worrying about the petrol to much.

I say follow your heart, if you have a bad feeling when you think about the S then go with the Coop. But if you have a great feeling then go for the S, i think you will love it!!

STOP

Youre dealer is having a laugh

March delivery is rubbish

We bought an S last week.
We went to a big, big well known chain who promised November, however as we didnt actually like the way they handled customer service we went to a less convenient small single franchise who said December.

If the 'poxy but helpful' dealer can do Dec I dont see why yours cant also.

cheers

just traded my cooper in against my new S

i lost 2K in 11 months

the car had 22K on the clock when it went back

think about it very carefully the cooper is a very good car the S is a licence burner

get the cooper for a year then see how you feel then try the S

you wont regret it

As people know I like the Cooper best for a few reasons, but in your case, if you have a Cooper "S" planted in your mind, then get it. ;)

I've made the mistake with motorcycles before. I really wanted the bigger bike but my head said buy the smaller one. After 6 months I sold it and bought the bike I really wanted in the first place. ;)

Book a days testing with your dealer. Drive the Cooper in the morning and the "S" in the afternoon. Take the same route.

After all it's a lot of money to be spending if you end up buying the wrong car!

My 2p... I was originally getting a Cooper but ended up with an S, IMO and no disrespect to Cooper owners but I think its a far superior motor in every way and definitely worth holding out for! My Dad has a Cooper so I still regularly drive both cars, my opinion is based upon repeated sessions in both motors

Oh and the insurance should be THAT bad, im 20 with zero NCB and paying £1300 as an added driver, that'll drop by a fair bit when I turn 21 in Jan and my 3 years NCB comes through on my banger! :D

At the end of the day it goes on looks. I prefer the Cooper. ;)

On UK roads these days you don't need anymore than 60BHP in a car! :p

Hi guys,

Today i went for a test drive in a coop S. Basically, i loved it, so I have decided to grit my teeth, and wait till march (march 11th to be precise), she tried putting in feb, but computer wouldnt let her :(

i loved the low down grunt, was quite a nice one actually, 25k miles, silver, on 17" run flats, and ride wasnt to bad!! Cannot wait now, times already dragging!!! :( :( :(
