It's a shame about the pub Helen, I'm sure an alternative will be found - not much help from this end as we don't know that area at all - sorry!

Will keep visiting this thread and we'll see you there - wherever there may be!!

I don't know why. I phoned them yesterday and they said that it shouldn't be a problem then they called me this morning and told me that they are under-going certain changes and they would be able to accommodate all of us. :(

Trying to find somewhere else close by, but they either don't take reservations and cannot guarantee 30 places or they look really rough :(:(

There's always the Trout Inn at Wolvercote. Nice pub/location/food but not within walking distance.

It's about 5 miles from the factory.

I have visited the Trout Inn (Ins. Morse's hangout) on the internet. But they don't take reservations :)
But if we turn up at 12 I don't think they'll refuse 30 hungry & thirsty customers.
So if everyone is agreed - is this the pub of choice????????????

If so, meet at the factory then go to the pub or
meet at the pub and convoy to the factory?

...... Answers on a postcard please!!! :D

They have plenty of tables so I would think they could handle a crowd at lunchtime.

May be worth phoning them just to forewarn them of the invasion?

It's easy to find and this site includes a map

New pub sounds fine, although they might make an exception for such a big group with regards to reservations... wouldn't want them to turn us away because the chef couldn't cope ;)

Also, it might be best to meet at the pub?? That way we won't have to go through any security gates at the factory only to come straight back out again (but have never been so don't know the set up!)

:)

Matt (not looking forward to arranging the next North Wales run and suffering from all these kind of problems himself! :D)

Any one coming from the South East?

ScoobyDoo
Sep 9th, 2004, 08:22 AM
I'll ring the pub around lunchtime today, and advise them of a MINI invasion (and try to persuade them to book a table ;)) As soon as I have done this and everyone is agreed that this is the pub of choice, I will update the first post, inc. the link above.

The trout isn't a great as a pub as people make out, I don't get what all the hype about it is.

Best pub for the best food in the area is the white horse at headington, loads of room for parking, the factory is only a 10 min drive away. And HUGE portions for those who like 'em big. :p

Failing that there's the one thats joined to the travel inn that's down the road a bit, can't remember whats it's called but it's a chain pub. Near to tesco and BK (?) and the rest of the little retail park at the bottom.

White Horse sounds good!

i like the idea of Big Portions and only 10 mins away! :)

ScoobyDoo
Sep 9th, 2004, 01:47 PM
I have called the White Horse and they have said that they cannot take reservations for October as they get really full at lunch times with students and cannot guarantee that we would get served in time for the tour at 1.45pm. They have suggested that we call nearer the time so they can see 'what business is like' :(:(

We really need somewhere that can take reservations so we are guaranteed food and being back at the plant for tour time :)

Any suggestions Elf?

Anywhere on there looks fine to me, how many cars do you need to find parking for?? If parking/size of the group is going to be a problem at those places, then maybe looking for a brewers fayre type place would be a good plan??

Unfortunately the nearest Brewers Fayre is about 11 miles or more south of where we need to be...

http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=450000&Y=190000&width=700&height=400&gride=447936&gridn=190560&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=OX144DP&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&zm=0&scale=200000&out.x=6&out.y=9

... and my mind has gone blank trying to think of the others!! Brewsters is definitely one, but can't remember any others :(

How about retail park type places, Pizza Hut,.....??

ScoobyDoo
Sep 9th, 2004, 02:28 PM
I phoned Pizza Hut and spoke to the Mgr. (who was very helpful) but unfortunatly couldn't accomodate all of us, but there wouldn't be space on the carpark for 30 MINI's.

He did say that there was a Brewsters/Brewers fayre type pub near Headington, will scour the internet and post details, in the mean time, ideas please...........

Yes, I have been pulling my hair out :D:D Think I'll have to wear a hat for the tour. LOL :):)
I have up-dated the first post with the meeting times and place.
Which is now The Longwall Beefeater - which has just been refurbished, so things are looking up!!
I have set the meeting time at 11.30am - this will allow everyone to see eachother's cars and will also allow to be at the Beefeater in plenty of time for the meal plus, will also allow (a little) for late come'ers. :D
Now all we have to do is relax - and count the days until the 19th :D - Fingers X'd!!!
