I was advised by the service man at Mini HK TGW, they can install an aux outlet for $1600. And you can just hook up your MP3 or iPod into it. When I ask him about the BMW/ Mini special kit for ipod connection, he does not know when they will get the kit. But if you have an iPod, I would wait for the kit that can connects with the control system, it should be $149(US).

I heard the iTrip quality is not too good as the antenna is outside the car so the signal is always weal and unstable.

suggest you mosey over to http://www.ipodlounge.com and do a search on iTrip.

Basically, there are a few that like it but the majority of people don't...if you live in an urban area with lots of radio stations (presumably Hong Kong does) it can be difficult to find a spare frequency to use the iTrip on.

Also, the sound quality is "okay", not great. Your best bet is to do the AUX jack install....but $1600!?! You may want to do it yourself, it's not extraordinarily difficult. There are some instructions on this site.

$1600 HK - That's about $200 US... which is still a bit pricey but not too extortionate

yes, I paid US$140 for it to be installed, in my left pillar..it normally goes in the glove compartment, which is where it's easiest to do yourself.

There's a reference to a NY Times article from this past weekend that just appeared on Gabe's site http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/08/24/the_options_for_ipod_using_mini_owners that gives a good rundown of all the options....

Wow    $1600?!?!?!?!? I get the cable for only US$39 and install it myself. It's VERY easy, you can install the cable within a hour.

** I have never modify anything or do anything to any of my cars before I got the MINI. MINI is the first car I ever touch. And if I take 1 hour to install that thing, I'm sure a lot of people can do it in half of my time :p

Don't use iTrip, the quality is poor. I bought one and couldn't stand the quality. Then I went to the Mini dealer to install the AUX jack. Around $140 and just couple more $ for the cable. That's the greatest investment for my car. iPod with Mini :D

Mine is Jan 2003 build. I think as long as your car is build after oct 2002, your head unit should be ok to the aux cable :D

Guys, I have installed the AUX input for more than a year by myself. It is very easy. But please check out the below link. I am wondering whether I can get this kit in Hong Kong.

Well couldn't wait so bought an I- Trip. All those comments about interference was right - probably 70% it works ok - but there is too much inerference in HK for it to work properly. Guess I have to install the aux port. Now where to find one?

My dealer told me the Ipod connector is coming out shortly before the 2006 mini will come out, but does not know the price. I got the AUX adapater, works great (but I use my dell PDA to play tunes).

The cost should be around $140.00, although I had a dealer throw it in for free on order of a Mini.

I use ICE> Link and it's much better, it can charge your Ipod and at the same time you can use your MFSW control the IPOD

Hi Cliff,

Today I asked the computer company staff regarding I-Trip the interference problem. He told me if the car aerial build in the window or locate at front, the result is good very less interference problem. Luckily my new babe the aerial locate at the top of front windshield.
