Had my Mini for just over a week. The last few times I've driven her, when switching the engine off, everything shuts down, then there's this little sound which I can only describe as a Mooo!

Is this normal behaviour for a young Mini!?

You weren't on the same road as me the other day when you herd it?? :D

Mine does that too - 2 1/2 weeks old.

Reminds me of the noise that AirWolf made, that helicopter that got the bad guys in the glorious 80's.

Apparently it's the power steering pump winding down.

It does give you that 'mission accomplished' feeling though.

Mooing here as well. Started after about a week and still mooing strong.

At first it worried me now I sorta like it. "Mission accomplished" - Exactly.

Just moooo with it..... then people will think you are completely bonkerz!!

LOL, I never heard it as a moooo, to me it always sounds like Baxter is sighing - like "This is it? We're done motoring?" :D

It's just things still spinning down. Once I had the car in gear and the clutch in, turned off the ignition and then let off the clutch--the car lept forward. It may not be a train, but MINIs like to go, you can't stop 'em immediately! :)

Not sure I'd describe it as a moo exactly, more a 'hummmmm, click'! ;)

I actually noticed this for the first time last night - the winding down noise. I thought it was kinda impressive to come from my little MC!!!! :cool:

I've always thought ours sounds like a jet engine winding down after shut-down. Pretty cool actually.

Yes exactly! just like a jet turbine engine shutting down i luved that sound the first time i shut her off always look forward to that sound :D

Lots of cars make a noise when finally shutting down. One theory someone had was the fuel pumps shutting off..... don't know what it is, but i'm guessing its some ancillary like that.

To clarify, I think that people are talking about two different noises. One is (I'm pretty sure) the power steering motor spinning down, which sounds like a turbine or jet engine powering down. The other is a bit quieter, and more of a 'moo' or 'rrrrrrrrr' sound, and lasts a shorter amount of time. Both happen around the same time.

Anyone know what the second noise is?

one thing we noticed at a club meeting is that the headlights seem to drop down when you turn off the ignition, like they're closing their eyes and that makes a noise not disimilar to mooing.....

DAISY the COW on magic roundabout was called Ermentrude! So if your referring to the DAISY in Minicornwall, which I suspect you are. Pull your cat claws back in :mad: ;)

I`ve never had this with my 2 previous MINI`s but noticed it straight away on the 05 MCS.
Not sure what it is but, dont think its Power steering or Headlights shutting down, maybe Fuelpump type of noise though ??
Sounds like its coming from Near side (Left) in Front of Bulkhead ?

Emz i would like it publicly known I was very impressed by daisy's abilities over the whole weekend, i think a lot of respect is due to BMW for making the decision to bring out a Diesel mini though it's a shame you can only get them as a one. It was pleasure having you behind me all weekend ;)

Wylie are you alright, checked your temperature only I'm sure you said publicly that you were impressed by my lil Daisy ;) It was a pleasure being behind you even though there were times when I near choked on the PETROL fumes and smell of lack of traction on the hill! :D

I`ve Found out what the Mooo is at last !!! :)

Its the actuator that opens & closes, (a flap over an air duct ??), for the Air Recirculation Button on Manual A/C equipped cars.

Can anyone with an 05 Auto A/C MINI confirm if it also happens with theirs ??

Try turning everything off & press the button with just the ignition on

It's a rather meditative sound and I am already in the habit and pausing a second before I turn off the ignition to get ready for it and after I shut it off, I do nothing, just sit there and listen to it. Then, after it has stopped, I fiddle with sunglasses, CDs, bags, etc.

Or maybe I'm just weird...hahaha... :p

ROFL I wait for the moo too! Sometimes I have to tell my boyfriend 'SHHHhhh' just before I turn Mini off so we can wait for the Moooo!

Just to add to this thread. The noise you describe is the throttle body butterfly opening and closing. It does some sort of reset when you switch off the car.

If you open the bonnet and run round to the front after you turn off you'll hear the noise coming from there.

Actually I did search for Moo. LOL!

Someone mentioned it in another thread with the breather pipe collapsing and causing a mooing sound. I stumbled across this thread but it's the Throttle Body noise so I thought I post so someone would see it if searching in the future. I'm good like that see ;)
