: Courtesy Car ELISEBOY May 3rd, 2002, 09:59 AM guys,
My car is going in on Tuesday to ahve some bits done.
Did those of you who have a cooper get a cooper courtesy car?
I have been told that I will only get a one, and I also have to sort out my own insurance company to cover the car
does this sound right??
Cheers 12000rpm May 3rd, 2002, 10:07 AM umm not really eliseguy :)
they gave me a bmw compact for two days and covered me on insurance as well- it was pretty good - comfy but like a bus in terms of gear change and clutch, not that i've driven one before :p
go and chat to em Martin L May 3rd, 2002, 10:15 AM Eliseboy, are you asking the question twice just in case some people missed it the first time? :p :p :p
When my Cooper went in for a couple of days I got a 325i to use, no need to sort out the insurance as it was insured by the dealer as a courtesy car for any driver. IndieBlueOne May 3rd, 2002, 12:58 PM Originally posted by ELISEBOY

many thnaks dietcokeplease May 4th, 2002, 08:28 AM Paul,
There's a wide discrepancy and probably no national policy for providing hire cars to customers.
Dealers that ask you to cover the car themselves probably do so because the customer who has to insure the car under his/her own Policy will probably take more care of the car. For every 10 people that treat a courtesy car with a modicum of respect, there's always one pratt that ruins it for the rest of us.
At the end of the day, dealers are commercial operations and have humongous premiums. I've heard one story of a dealer who had a £15k car stolen one night and didn't claim because of the level of excess and because his renewal was imminent.
At the other end of the scale, I've experience dealers that have covered me 100% with no excess. Mercedes gave my father an S500 when his A190 went in for a service. However, they made us sign for a £2500 excess. It's the excess that worries me most - Retard in car park dings the courtesy car.....i bring it back.....they could technically debit my plastic with the full £2.5k even though repair will only be £100!
I think that we should be grateful that MINI dealers are slapped within BMW dealers. This means that thereis more backup and more cars to keep us mobile.

PS Tell yer dealer I got a 745 iDrive as a courtesy car! ELISEBOY May 4th, 2002, 08:30 AM a 745!!!
how did you maange that then
he did say to me that to do it on their insurance involved a £5k excess which is unbelievable dietcokeplease May 4th, 2002, 08:57 AM Dunno, must have been my stunning good looks.....!:D ;)
Or that one of the salesman is trying to flog me a 330d Touring. And I've been pretty scathing about their service in the past. (They must be trying to sweeten Mr DC without realising I'm fully loaded with Nutrasweet!)
Seriously though Paul, I can fully believe that your dealer has a £5k excess. Nowadays in the motor industry, 10k, 15k, 25k excesses are not uncommon. Most of us "average oldy" drivers would pay 3-8% of the cars value as our insurance premium. Imagine a spanky new dealership worth several million with several million pounds worth of cars in stock. And they prob have to pay 1.5-3% of the sum insured as an Insurance Premium - that's one helluva lot of moolah!
DC Martin L May 4th, 2002, 09:27 AM Just took my Cooper in today for some work and they need it back for a couple of day. Worst thing is that they have now changed their policy on courtesy cars! I now have to insure it myself as some idiot wrote one of them off
They tried to put me off with a one at the begining of June but I insisted on getting my car sorted asap so demanded a BMW. They urm'd and arrr'd as it wasn't policy to give MINI customers BMWs. Then I mentioned that they had the company BMW the day before and then they quickly retracted
Only problem now is which insurance to cover it with. My corporate insurance is a £500 access, I'll have to check how much my personnal one will cost. | |
