Oct 23: S'more Colors Run

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Save the date! Saturday, October 23rd
Have some fun cruising down to Virginia to see the fall colors in all their glory! This afternoon run will let you sleep in late before heading for the hills. We'll cruise some amazing backcountry roads in the Shenandoah Valley and end up for dinner around the campfire... I'll bring the marshmellows! Anybody know the ghost story about the guy with a hook for a hand?

Those who wish to stay and camp for the evening can enjoy a leisurely evening relaxing with friends. There are B&Bs in the area for those inclined to "credit card" camp and we'll have directions back to Rt 66 for the rest. Sunday morning the campers will have some breakfast and caravan home.

FURTHER DETAILS COMING... Thursday, Sept 30th

When: Saturday, October 23rd (and 24th for the campers)
Where: Leaving from Rt 66 just outside the Beltway
Time: Leaving 12:30 pm
Food: Dinner around the campfire, bring a dish to share
What to Bring: FRS radios (channel 7/21), flashlight, camping gear

Please RSVP to Events@dcmetrominis.org by Monday, October 18th.
List whether you will attend the run only or stay to camp as well.

This is gonna be fun... Come & join us! I LOVE :red: camping! :p

I remember my first MINI campout... The park rangers were pretty inpressed that we fit 5 MINIs on the 2-car parking pad... we had lots of lookie-loos all night! We had lots of fun! It was Casey's birthday and we found some tremendous twisties in southern Wisconsin to play on! That was back when he was single and still had his first MINI! Now he's married with 2 kitties and his third MINI! Boy, how time flies! I'm getting old! :D

but the short story is start in Manassas, go down to Luray then back up to Front Royal (Virginia) to the campground...

Amazing back country highways in the Shenandoah Valley... campground is fairly deluxe (bring your swimsuit... HOT TUB!)... BYO alcohol, dish to share... club is providing burgers, chicken, s'mores, drinks, condiments, plates, napkins, silverware, firewood...

MoonPie,

So far we have six cars and 8-10 people... half are staying over. Usually RSVPs come in at the last minute so I'm guessing we'll have a dozen or more cars... we have plenty of room.

Hope you can come!

Deb

I would like to extend my thanks to NekoWoman, Paul!, and Jen for planning the routes and camping adventure for this event. It was relaxed and fun! Deb did a nice job leading while Paul swept at the rear. I wish I had a video camera in the car during the drive as the roads were and the fall foliage beautiful. Nice colors . Good thing we didn't enter Skyline Drive because it was a zoo .

Deb, Paul, Kevin, and myself stayed in Front Royal to camp for the night. Some others hung around for dinner and chat, then headed back to their respective homes. Deb and Paul transported (errr, more like things flew around in their cars ) an ENORMOUS amount of stuff during the drive such as most of the food (my favorite - pork chops! ), beverages, coolers, firewood, camping gear, a blender , blankets, radios, outdoor stove, paper and plastic goods, etc. Amazing! We had a nice campfire going there for a while and put it to good use with the marshmellows and chocolate, dinner meat, warming ourselves in the chilly air and last but not least............cooking lots of beans (Paul!) .
