What gets me is the increased use of police tactics, being watched and being suspected everywhere in this self-proclaimed free country. But that's another topic...

I googled "V1" and read about the Valentine radar detectors. That led me to radar jammers -- one is called the Blinder jammer. It costs a bundle like the detectors. So, you could use those to befuddle the staties? It's not illegal in some states. :D

It's an "arms race". You get better detectors / jammers / whatevers. Eventually, the police get better gear that gets around your gear.

There was a story on the net recently about research into microphone based speed detectors that went off the dopler effect of a moving car.

Snid, the update helps--- if you like to drive fast then those things will help. Will the staties have something to encounter the jammers?

Josh, Jar wants to know if your experiment with a new system to detect or screw up the Lidar gun worked out? He saw three cops with Lidar guns in NH on the highway the other day while he was stocking the rivers with salmon fries! :aargh:

Actually they worked even better than I thought. I posted about it here:
http://www.jwardell.com/mini/2006/01/16/laser-testing/

And to correct your later post, these and the blinders you mentioned are laser jammers, not radar jammers, which are illegal radio transmitters by the FCC. Laser jammers are nothing more than computer-controlled high powered infrared lights like the remote for your television.

As for something that will work against the jammers, right now there is nothing out there. Of course I know of some ways to do it with my digital RF engineering training but that's up to the laser gun manufacturers to figure out....it will take a while.

Smile, thanks for correcting me. Laser jammers, laser jammers, laser jammer, laser jammers.....
A clever guy like you, we need in this Mini club! Better keep your ideas under wrap lest the laser gun manufacturers find out about you and try to kidnap and force you to make a laser counterjammer...:D

Josh, I just read a post that made me understand why you can't afford a V1 just yet.. Congrats if that deal didn't fall through.

I'm seriously thinking of laser countermeasures after last fall's ticket. The staties are everywhere, seems mostly with LIDAR, not radar. ( I do a lot of highway).

If you had to do it again, which system would you choose? I was under the impression the Blinders covered more gun types but the site has some serious grammatical errors that makes me wonder if it's a mom&pop company.

Hypothetical question:
What do you say to the cop who still pulls you over, even though you have a laser jammer (and he knows it, but wants to harrass you anyway?)

Blinder is a Danish company, but maybe their US distributor in Miami is a M&P outfit....

Ideally, you hope they don't know. Most have a kill button so as soon as you've slowed down it disables the jammer for a minute and they get a good speed reading, and just figure their gun was giving an error (which it does seemingly half the time anyway).

BTW, the Ted Williams warning is still valid, friend from NY got bagged there last week in a rental car, $250 for 70 in a 45 and whenever I'm in the Knight's limo (every week), 99% of the time there's a mountie. Downside of the modern tunnel, plenty of room for speed traps.

The tunnels are the fastest roads in boston, as the surface is in perfect shape, the corners are all banked, the lanes nice and wide. So of course they set the limit at 35 despite unencombered traffic usually moving at 60+ and count the money.

If you drive thru the big dig at 80 as the road banks and turns you can sense the whole tunnel moving around you. It is like flying a Star Wars X-Wing fighter thru the bowels of a Death Star.
Oh to see the light at the far end of the tunnel. If only there was a U-turn for all the mini drivers to go back thru the other way.

Saw a cop shooting laser on Rt2 E this morning, handheld with one hand. Another had someone stopped Rt2 W. Awfully nice of them to enforce the illegally slow speed limits on those of us having a bad enough day that we have to work, and finally have decent traffic conditions.

...of course you should already know the government is rewarding them all for giving out extra tickets this weekend.

Sometimes it pees me off to see the levels of enforcement out there, especially on the Mass Pike. Is that why we pay tolls, so this road can be so heavily patrolled?

I drive a lot for my job, 90% on big roads like 93/95/90/2/495, etc. The worst spots for stationary LEOs seem to be 93 in NH just south of the tolls, and pretty much anywhere on the Pike. On 95 North of Peabody, cops like to hide on the down-ramps, so you don't see them until their blues light behind you. On the Pike they take advantage of any nook and cranny to hide their cars.

The LIDAR users seem to be a little more visible, though I've also seen one guy shooting into his side rear-view mirror. Laser is bad.

Another thing is the amount of un-marked vehicles out there. I used to think I could spot all the different make/models, but they continue to surprise me. I'd like to start a thread that covers all the different cars they use.
