I forgot to add it applies to mailed statements. On-line balance does not have the fee.. jwardell Dec 17th, 2004, 05:47 PM I saw $6/yr for the mailed statements  But really, who needs that. Funny thing is on the application the only choices were "email" or "none." :)
Let's see if I get it before I leave for CT for christmas, when I will next be on the pike. Aqualung Dec 17th, 2004, 11:00 PM I convinced my b-in-law to get EZPass as he lives in Charlottesville and it's a big help to have it up and down the route. When I went to C'ville a coupla years ago, it was great to use it in NY, NJ, Delaware, etc., no stopping. Especially on the Garden State Pkwy! I figure before too long, however, they'll probably have to start charging a processing fee, kinda like the banks are now hitting us up if you go to an "off network" ATM.
Going the other way, does anyone know a) when New Hampster will get such a system and b) will it be compatible w/ FastLane / EZ Pass? Same for Maine? Didn't they have an electronic system a coupla years ago? Yes New Hampshire will be getting it in the spring of '05 on the Spalding Turnpike first, then Hooksett and Merrimack, and finally Hampton. They will be offering the boxes for drivers a month before it starts on Spalding. Maine will go over some time soon as well, I think almost all the booths are converted and ready to go. It may even be active for testing now, I have the old Transpass system responder I am waiting for my letter to turn it in for the newer one so I don't have to pay the $30 in NH. But in most cases I will just buy it as I don't want to fuss with Tokens anymore.
Also both systems will be compatible with the existing systems so you can go from Maine to Florida and not stop once for a toll.

Didya see in today's (19th) Globe Starts & Stops, they have a quick update on this? New Hampster might be online by Feb, and Maine by Memorial Day. BTW, they say NH will charge about $30 for their transponder, the most expensive (tho' FastLane is $27.50). It will be interesting to see how many EZpass devices go to the Granite State. Live Free or Die, eh? jwardell Dec 20th, 2004, 03:00 AM I finally completed the install of my "Big Friggin' Laser" jammer today. Can't wait to test it out. What fun running wires through the hood and in through the firewall by the brake (clutch?) lines.
I've seen a cop at the 4/225 exit a few times, but behind a pine tree just past the overpass. Doesn't matter, lexington cops love to drive with their guns on and my detector lets me know a mile away. I find town police often have the budget for permanent installs of guns in each vehicles, which are much easier to leave on, and it's great for knowing if one is nearby even if they are just driving around.
Yep I just read in the globe, except I thought it said Maine was switching to EZpass in Feb. Cape Cod MINI Dec 20th, 2004, 12:43 PM I finally completed the install of my "Big Friggin' Laser" jammer today. Can't wait to test it out.

http://www.laserbusters.com/support/product-tests/Default.asp too cool blue! Dec 20th, 2004, 01:06 PM $400 euro for the base Blinder, damn that's crazy.
Call Leon Gruner at Blinder USA, 866-622-7219 for a better price.
The Lidatek jammer also works. It has a smaller transmitter and might be easier to find a place to attach. There was a group buy on the BMW forums of over 200 units about 6 months ago.
Google both of them for test results. I saw a UK mag comparison and they came out pretty good. The escort is another option.

Maine will be in Feb, got my kit from MTA since I still have a Transpass device and if I order now I will get a transponder in late Jan. Going to skip since I will get the New Hampshire's device since it will give you a discount for using the tolls there (not as good as the tokens at 50% but good enough like 40-45%). If you have the other state devices will pay normal toll rates and will not get the discount. Also note that NH is doing a rolling launch, where Spalding (Dover and Rochester) goes first, then Merrimack (Everett TPK)/Hooksett (93) sometime around Memorial Day, and then finally Hampton (95 and 101) by Labor day.
So if you live in NH your better off buying theirs are you get a discount to use the tolls.

Also, the Guv of NH wants the residents of the towns that the toll plazas are in to get a free ride. Aqualung Dec 26th, 2004, 12:55 AM Also, the Guv of NH wants the residents of the towns that the toll plazas are in to get a free ride.
well that would be cool. I recall when FastLane was first discussed, there was an idea that they may try to stagger the commute by offering discounts for traveling at different times. I would like that.
Personally, however, the biggest benefit to us has been on weekends, when you can blow by all the out of staters at the Mass Pike tollbooths....we coughed up the depo$it for my wife's car even though it doesn't go on the Mass Pike daily....I know, shoulda done EZPass but too late for that.
Also saw an article this week that the towns up on the NH border (i.e. Lawrence) have resurrected their "report your neighbor" hotlines to squeal on people who register their cars to NH to avoid the taxes.
They even have the 3rd shift police cars cruising neighborhoods and tracking cars as well. Wonder if they'll do that for toll transponders too, eh? jcsinnh Dec 27th, 2004, 10:15 AM So...my honey gives me a radar detector for Christmas. Knowing that I want to pick my own, she buys one from Radio Shack just to have something to wrap and knowing that I will return it.
Now comes the age old question. I can't spend too much so the detector will be a stand alone but is there a fair unbiased comparison out there, more recent than 2002 between the V1 with POP and the 8500 X50? I can't find one. Links and comments welcome. The 8500 is @ $100.00 cheaper, I think. The V1 in current version only available via V1 site, ie no discounts. At least I think so. The Valentine POP upgrade is $55 jwardell Dec 27th, 2004, 02:39 PM I was thankful to use EZpass this week through the pike tolls. But boy, mass sure continues its usual State of Confusion where the EZpass lanes are randomly placed, and you can't tell where they are till well after the backup has started. Very few have signs that say Fast Lane Keep Right or whatever. Of course you may find them on the right, left, or randomly in the middle, which of course makes no sense whatsoever.
As for detectors, most reviews are weighted. User reports still put the V1 above all others, and the 8500 and the RX65 are both great detectors. The Bel usually has the price advantage on the internet. Any other model is a waste of your money as you will get too much false info. With laser/lidar taking over, none of them will do much for you.
I bet spray painting your car flat black like those awesome fast Hondas is your best defense. :D ;) Aqualung Dec 27th, 2004, 04:12 PM I was thankful to use EZpass this week through the pike tolls. Yeah, I love how it tells you to keep right/left and it's on the other side. It's especially messed up at the I-84 toll when you're heading East, there's only one and it's to the far right (I've memorized that one).
Hmmm, mebbe there's a market for a conversion kit to make the headlights retractable. :p Those big lenses are great lidar targets, eh? Oh well, I've been a good boy, back to my 70 or so and haven't had a problem.
Sidebar, I recall a thread where a Lexus was setting off the laser alert on V1's (and it happened to me), something about their auto distance control. Well the other day I was in BJ's and started my car up and the Lexus directly across from me started going "nuts", e.g. car alarm horns, lights, etc. Turned the V1 off and on and it did it again. Must be something about those Lexus cars.... uptick Dec 27th, 2004, 04:48 PM After a qwik scan, I am a bit surprised at the results. Thanks, Ivan! :D
I believe that SpeedZone test was conducted prior to V1 introducing its dual-band POP mode.

They already are :) jcsinnh Dec 28th, 2004, 08:20 AM Thanks all. Today, I'll play with my buddy's year old V1 although Stoddard's one constable is busy plowing roads. I think I'll go with the X50 just on price. Seems a dead heat with that and the new V1 with POP. Interesting that POP is not to be used as a basis for ticketing, says its manual. Yeah, sure!
