The two little lights that shine out of the bottom of the switch panel on to the front cup holder area.

I only just noticed these when fitting my chrome capped ash tray (coin holder), and I noticed the two little lights in the reflection!

& there was me thinking you knew everything about Mini ;)

I thought it was just a Gap in the Plastic and the light was coming from the rocket switches? :)

nope, if you put your hand under there's two orange lights. one of those surprise & delight features :D

All BMW's have it, the MINI ones are fainter though. It's a nice feature IMO, adds to the ambience of the interior when it's dark.

I put a much brighter light in that area right next to those little lights.....it is a little LED keychain light that is about the size of a US nickel and I velcro'd it up there...you just reach under and up with your finger a press the button and it looks like a little fluorescent light and it shuts itself off after 5 seconds...quite nice

Well I just made the quickest dash to my car to go and see this for myself. Hmmm, I always thought the light was that came from the top two ambient lights.... but there they were :D

I noticed them almost since the very first day I had my MINI. I use the ashtray as a storage cup for extra keys and I thought that it was so convenient for it to be lighted! :cool:

But there's one thing I hadn't noticed before: I always tilted the sunroof by pulling the sunroof's switch. I recently realized (by chance) that if you push that switch it tilts automatically! :rolleyes:

The dealer pointed them out to me as down-lighters.. Another extremely cool feature I love! :D

Don't get me wrong, I knew there was light down there, I just thought it was incidental or light that just came from the back of the unit, just never noticed the two deliberate light sources down there.

Other lights that I've recently noticed were the ones used under the doors to light up the ground as you enter your MINI! :rolleyes:

Yep just checked mine and there are definitely two lights down there !

I thought the ambient light was coming from the two orange lights mounted by the interior mirror.!

I added a third to my (old) toggle switch panel - now I realize I need to add the third one to my new chrome hooped panel too. The PCB & casing is all set up for three, but there are only two fitted.

So how do you like the chrome coin holder, Paul? Glad it go to you safely.

I too noticed light down there which I had thought was merely "escaped light"... It is very nice to know that this light is "focused and intended"... Just another "ambient feature" to love about the Mini... And there are so many others !!! :)

I just noticed (after 18 months) that the tailgate grab handles are, to all intents and purposes, replica's of the internal door openers.

I've always grabbed them rather than look at them (no smutty comments please).

The last time I asked this question I had no replies so I'm going to be cheeky and high jack
this thread. If people are rushing out to check those little lights then can someone put their
lighting on maximum and then start to fade it. On my car at maximum the illumination for
the heater controls are as bright as elsewhere e.g. the same as the toggle switches. As I
fade the illumination for the heater controls fades faster than anything else until they are so
dim as to be useless while the toggle switches etc are still quite clear. It's a minor point
but it irritates the hell out of me :mad: . Is it just my car :confused:

I'd never noticed this either - MickyD pointed it out to me on the last run! I thought it was just light coming from a gap in the plastic too.

Yes - it is a right angle surface mount LED, but you also have to fit both a resistor and a "3 leg diode" package (reverse battery protection - I guess you could just jumper that if you wanted).

Ah I see!! Sorry I read your message in a rush and thought you we're talking about the downlighters by the rear view mirror.

After reading the message properly I dashed out to my car and there's two more downlighters I never knew I had! thanks! :D
