I don't get it. :(

Left out....again. This isn't helping my inferiority complex. Is there a psychologist in the house ?

I'm with you Tom...I was hoping someone would explain that one to me. I am clueless enough, apparently, that I need help understanding that one. (and yea, I'm gonna go nuts if someones doesn't explain that one SOON) :D
I'm up to the point where I'm willing to give Lucy that nickel! (we'll see who all catches that one)

It's all about distraction.
Ken, I'm with you on finding things to occupy my spare time. (try being retired..it's worse)
My wife and I have been pouring over catalogs of after-market goodies and comparing them with on-line stores to see where our best money lies with add-ons and paraphernalia. It got to the point that we already have the dealer (when our mini comes in) putting on a spoiler that we didn't spec to begin with. Add-ons have been a big time consumer in that we wonder how many add-ons we can get and still avoid warranty issues. (ok, wallet issues too :D )
We have also been looking at the tons of various cleaning supplies we can sink a weeks wages into...
Gotta love catalogs.

I'm not currently set up to use paypal..but you could just have your MINI forwarded to me for payment. Just let me know when to start the clock.

OK, Ken. You asked for it.

It all started when I was only as tall as a MINI's door handle. My mother liked my brother best and.......

Hi Taz - two of the best things I added to my '02 MCS (and removed to put in the pending '05) are the European parcel shelf and glovebox organizer.

The parcel shelf replaces the knee bolster under the steering wheel and provides extra storage space. If you get into it you can easily install a 12V power outlet on the shelf. Installation is very straightforward - remove the knee bolster, put a couple of clips onto the bottom of the dash, snap the bottom of the shelf into the car, and screw the top of the shelf into the previously installed clips.

Once you get your new car you'll probably get tired of everything in the glovebox being dumped onto the floor every time you open the door. The glovebox organizer makes more efficient use of that space and eliminates the dumping.

This isn't the place to get into a discussion of which wax is better, etc., but I've found the products by Zaino to be quite good. They provide a great finish and are very durable. Check this site (http://www.zainostore.com) for further information on Zaino. If you want to learn more about cleaning your car than you ever wanted to know check the Autopia site (click here (http://www.autopia.org) ) . This is a site dedicated to car detailing enthusiasts that has information of how to clean and spiff up any and all parts of a car.

Yea, but it's so bad it's good and I plan on telling all the paramedics and EMTs I know that one to see if they can get it. (EMT here but it went clean over my head...says something, doesn't it?)

And thanks for helping us out with that one! :D :D

Are any of the US MINI dealers selling OEM (i.e. BMW MINI accessories) at a discount by mail order? There are a couple of goodies I'd like to get, but MSRP is the order of the day at my dealer.

Thanks Pamlico,
The idea of the parcel shelf and organizer were two things the wife and I had looked at but wasn't *quite* sure of..until now. (real people endorsements go a lot farther with us than ads)
Both will be on the list of must-haves now. I hope you're right about straightforward installations though..by my own confession, I'm mechanically challenged. Same goes around the house. The wife thought she married Bob Vila but she got Tim Taylor instead. :(
I also like the Zaino site. I can't say as I had ever heard of this one before. I've never had great luck with any one brand of wax to this point so a new one for the Mini appeals to me.
Thanks again! :D

Woo hoo! My MINI is in American waters now. It visited New York two days ago, left yesterday, and will arrive in Baltimore, MD tomorrow. Then a few more days and it will get to Charleston to be unloaded on Wednesday!

I live so close to Baltimore, it's all I can do to keep from driving up there and storming the ship! I guess I can track down Ken when I need a court-appointed psychologist for evaluation after they arrest me? :D

The big question now is how long it takes to clear the VDC. If the VDC in Charleston is relatively fast, I could try to pick up the car on April 6th. If it's slow, I'll have to wait until late the following week - maybe even the 16th - since I'll be out of town for a few days at a conference.

Hey, I for one would be interested to know how long it takes there at he VDC. I have heard of varying times (depending on what needed done) from only a couple of days to over a week. Keep up posted so the rest of us soon-to-be owners can salivate at the prospect of getting ours soon too! :D

Well, the pictures sure helped but I saw one potential stumbling block under tools needed:

Tools needed: Torx bit, brain.

I have the Torx bit anyways
The rest is highly subjective according to my family. ;)
I'm hoping one of my kids (who are much thinner and limberer than I am) will help.

Taz - I'd never used any of the high end waxes before Zaino and I was a little hesitant to spend the $, but I'm gettting ready to reorder all the necesary products. If you're going to get this stuff I'd suggest waiting a little bit as they are about to release a new product (Z-8 sealer / detailer) which has gotten rave reviews from those who have been testing it. Also, to make things go faster, get the ZFX additive which makes the stuff-that-shines dry a lot faster than it would otherwise. Be sure to read the instructions on the Zaino site on how to use all the products. Finally, one hint - don't slather this stuff on like regular waxes. Use only a very, very small amount for the best results. Using a syringe to get precise control of the amount used, I got three layers on a MINI using only 1/2 oz of the product with great results. You don't have to be that stingy, but really do use only a very small amount. This is a small company and there really is a Zaino. You can call or email Sal Zaino and if doesn't answer the phone he'll get back to you quickly. I emailed Sal a week ago and he replied that the Z8 would be released in a week or two. This being 7 days later it should be out any time now.

The glovebox organizer just inserts into the glovebox - no problem. The shelf is a little more than that, but not at all difficult. Check the instructions that Ken posted. Removing the lower portion of the knee bolster requires a firm tug as the center oftentimes is more diffciult to break free than the ends, but it will come off.

rsinsheimer - Give the parts department at Classic MINI in Cleveland, OH a call at 800.388.1098. They sell for less than MSRP, Also MINI of Sterling VA has stated they will sell parts at a 30% discount to members of Roadfly. Check their thread on Roadfly by clicking here (http://forums1.roadfly.org/mini/forums/partscounter/). Both discouint parts, but you have to pay shipping, but no sales tax.

Today is the 26th the ship sails TOMORROW.... tick...tock...

Sorry :) I'm in GMT+1 (or +2 now I think with dst now in effect here) but I return home to Chicago tomorrow!

Good news though, my MINI is now loaded on the MB :D :D The little guy boarded a little after 9am South Hampton time. Time to start tracking the ship. Almost home.

bandrews, Congrats on your MINIs arrival to the USA! Now the wait pain goes up a few notches ;)

And Ken, how safe is the parcel shelf? I might get it as well.

bt, are you talking about the ASKMINI and the miniusa.com sites? If that's the case, the updates for our car was over 4 days. I found out on a thursday afternoon that our car left the monday before! (so it was apparently put on before that..maybe even sunday or saturday) They don't update too darned fast it seems. Hang in there bud.
(skip above paragraph if you were referring to the WW line website. )
Also, have you called your MA to make sure it's not on a K-Line vessel?

I'll chime in - my Mini was finished late last week and I was really hoping with the delay of the MB sailing that it would make it. Well, it shows it was received at the terminal at 18:35 on the 25th and it's booked on the MB according to the WW site tracking - but so far it doesn't show Loaded. :(

Any idea if it may still be on there? I even went through the list of others booked on the MB (there's 520) - I must be out of my mind to spend the time - I think I need counseling. Anyhow - there are some that show they were received after mine and they show loaded - not good news. I'm hoping they didn't just leave it off and it won't get on until next week.

Any thoughts???

When the Cypress Trails was loading, there were 248 cars booked for a ride. Of those, only 200 made the boat, the rest were wait listed for the next ship. Those showed up with an asterisk after their VIN on loading day.

First off: Welcome aboard! Good to see another person in the same boat as the rest of us.
I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is-if you think you need counseling, you're in the right thread with who we have here. The bad news is-he is just as looney as we are due to waiting and wanting our Minis yesterday! Sounds like you'll fit in just fine. :D :D
As for your Mini, you may wanna give it another day or so and recheck. It *might* have gotten on just before the deadline but you may have been cutting it a little close on that. Another day or so may clarify it for you. (we'll cross our fingers that you snuck on though!)
Otherwise, it sounds good for you to catch the Resolve going out on April 1st.
Cheers,
Randy

Will you be the first of the US March people to get their MINIs? What was your production week? That's fantastic!

I don't think I'll be the first March US to get my car, but I have a reasonable shot at being first among those of us posting in the group on MINI2. My car completed production on March 5, so it was definitely a very-first-of-the-month affair.

There's a post over on North American Motoring from someone living in Massachusetts whose PW/B CVT rode along with mine on the Takasago, getting off in New York. Their delivery is scheduled for April 2nd, which seems like a fast turnaround through the VPC. I'm hoping for a similarly fast trip, but you never know... My MA quoted me "10 to 14 days", but I think that was a conservative estimate to keep me from freaking out if things are running a bit more slowly than usual :)

I threw in The Italian Job again last night, watching the MINI scenes really carefully and concentrating on the cars themselves. Only Charlize Theron's CR/W car (like mine :D) is a Cooper S - the other two are plain Coopers. Kind of odd considering all three of them are carrying equal loads and driving in a pack... guess it's a testament to the capabilities of the Cooper more than anything! Also, watch the wheels really closely on the HB Cooper... you can see that they change from the flashy alloys it has in all of the showy scenes to the 15" 8-holes when they're doing performance driving. Subtle, but noticeable to us MINI nuts if you watch carefully.

It was scheduled for the 25th, but I don't know exactly if, or when it left. (that's what it showed the last time I was on the WW site anyhow)
