: MARCH 2005 Group Pamlico Mar 30th, 2005, 04:20 PM Thank you!
See you at MoT?
You're welcome.
Already registered and waiting for MOT. Hoping to make the caravan from Yankee Candle as well.

P.S. Just checked again and the automated vehicle status at askmini just switched to "In transit". The web page hasn't updated yet... not that it matters. dpacker Mar 30th, 2005, 04:48 PM On another note - have you guys seen the pictures of the 07 mini at motoringfile.com?
I'm not completely sold on the new look - I'd have to see it in person first. Not really thrilled with the new dash - too conventional looking - I like the current look.
From the pictures, I'm not too impressed with the dash either. To me, that's one of the great things about the MINIs that we are getting - the interior. There's just nothing more to say about it other than it's VERY cool looking - I love it. The only thing I saw at the dealerships that I didn't like were those cupholders. Hope I don't offend anyone here, but I hate that stupid cupholder hanging off of the side of the dash. It's like they finished the design, and then said, "Oops, we forgot to add a useful cupholder, but that's okay because we'll just bolt this funny looking thing to the side of the dash and noone will ever think that it was an afterthought." No - I didn't think that - not at all. That was one of the pluses of ordering one - I got to order it without the cupholder! If mine has a cupholder by mistake, I'm sending it back! :p
I guess I'm glad they are changing the design though. If they get it changed before too many more populate, our MINIs will just be that much more unique. I still haven't seen a lot of them in our area, so I'm pretty happy about that. On our 6-hour, roundtrip trek the other day, we didn't pass one other MINI the whole time.
Congratulations on you guys being booked on a boat. I hope you make it. Then you can sit back, relax, and have other things to ponder like cupholders, etc. :p
Have a great day everyone! Debbie AprilWhine Mar 30th, 2005, 05:01 PM You're welcome.

Yes, I saw your name on the Yankee Candle list. I'm signed up for that, but it's not a sure thing. With the drive up from VA, don't know if I'll make the starting time or not. paulr Mar 30th, 2005, 05:05 PM Anyone getting the new armrest? I have it ordered, but I'm sure one of you will get it first. If so, I'd love to see some pix of it in one of our "real" cars instead of the pix at Motoringfile.
Also your thoughts on it.
Thanks
I ordered it. I don't know what to expect from it. I hope my funny bone is not the part of my arm that just reaches it ;) Pamlico Mar 30th, 2005, 05:09 PM Yes, I saw your name on the Yankee Candle list. Where in VA? Even from Richmond it's a long haul to the YC, let alone Mt. Washington. Tazminia Mar 30th, 2005, 05:12 PM Congratulations on you guys being booked on a boat. I hope you make it. Then you can sit back, relax, and have other things to ponder like cupholders, etc. :p

Funny you should mention that Deb! Of all the things I love about the Mini, the one annoying thing was a lack of well thought out cupholders. (an odd complaint I know) The two front ones in front of the shifter are totally useless except as a coin holder. I don't know where a good one WOULD go, but I guess I was hoping for one that maybe folded or slid out to use and then could be hidden when not in use. (kind of like the old ashtrays in other cars) Yea, that newest one looks like a sore thumb sticking out there, doesnt it? :D
Well, since this is the wifes car..I guess that makes me the official cupholder, eh? Ken30307 Mar 30th, 2005, 05:13 PM I just called ASKMINI today because my car never updated to the automated message that said it was "at the port" (I'm assuming from reading the thread that there is such a message)..they said.."oh your car is going through quality inspection". Then I said.".the automated message said that it was waiting for transport." then he said.."hold on..let me check the next page....oh..yes..it's waiting for transport." I told him that it had said that since the 24th and he replied "hmm..let me check something...oh..it arrived at the port today."
very odd.... AprilWhine Mar 30th, 2005, 06:12 PM Where in VA? Even from Richmond it's a long haul to the YC, let alone Mt. Washington.
I'm in Hampton, on the southeast coast. Yes, it is a long haul, but I drove my MC to Magog Quebec two years ago for MiniMeetEast. The hubby and I will do the drive up over two days, leaving out after work one day then finishing up the next. That is why I think I may not make the noon leaving time. If not, I'll see all of you at the T&C, I've had my reservations since last summer. :) Tazminia Mar 30th, 2005, 06:32 PM I just called ASKMINI today because my car never updated to the automated message that said it was "at the port" (I'm assuming from reading the thread that there is such a message)..they said.."oh your car is going through quality inspection". I know this isn't a very polite thing to say, but doesn't that make you want to scream "Can you get to the most RECENT page and just tell me where the hell my car is?!"
Heck, if I wanted a canned response, I would have settled for the automated line.
Hang in there Ken, hopefully the next time you call and talk to someone, it won't be that clown. (like someone who will actually HELP you!)
btw, when did your Mini get completed again? (was it before the 21st?) Claudia Mar 30th, 2005, 07:44 PM Anyone getting the new armrest? I have it ordered, but I'm sure one of you will get it first. If so, I'd love to see some pix of it in one of our "real" cars instead of the pix at Motoringfile.

I have also ordered it, but as my MINI is still waiting at the dock in Southampton, no pics yet available. When is yours supposed to come this way? And it is dealer-installed. At the time we ordered it could not be factory-installed because they were in backorder?? Claudia Mar 30th, 2005, 08:02 PM Didn't make the MB and now booked for the Resolve. My VIN # doesn't show an asterix, but neither did it when the MB was about to sail. By now 367 cars on booked on the Resolve. Does anyone know how many will fit on a ship? Claudia,
The Resolve holds 5,740 cars on 13 decks. ;)

Claudia,
I just checked and only 26 cars are showing as booked. How did you come up with 367?

It was done on the 24th. Maybe they are pushing it to the docks. :) Ken30307 Mar 30th, 2005, 09:16 PM Claudia,

ASKMINI is really backed up! I just called for the fun of it and it told me my MINI was still at the port awaiting a shipping vessel.... Lets hope the WW site is the reliable source here! Our drive isn't as bad - coming over from Rochester, NY. Roughly 4 hrs or so to the YC. We vacation in your general area, although further South (Ocracoke Island) which really is a healthy drive. Tom B Mar 30th, 2005, 10:13 PM are you looking at all the pages?
I believe so.

Pamlico--I love Ocracoke Island!! Have vacationed there many times--first visited as a child. I have been thinking about Ocracoke lately--the little lighthouse in particular, as I've decided to name my (still in the paint shop) PW/B MINI "Lighthouse", AKA "Lightie". Great name !!
San Francisco to Ocracoke is really a long drive. We first visited Ocracoke almost 30 years ago (ack). It's changed quite a bit over the years and is trying to move more upscale. Still a great place, but it's best now not to visit in July and August as there are lots more people there. We've had 4 wd vehicles for years and it used to be possible to drive out to South Point at any time of the day and there would hardly be anyone else out there - paradise. Nowadays it can be pretty crowded with the SUV crowd, at least until the end of the day when they all rush back to have a cocktail and things get back to the way they should be. We kick ourselves every time we go for not buying a place there when prices were a fraction of what they are now. dpacker Mar 31st, 2005, 12:46 AM Funny you should mention that Deb! A slide-out cupholder (like a CD player holder) would be nice. I wouldn't think something like that would take up too much room either. Maybe by 2008 (when I'm ready for my convertible) :) they will have one of those. There's always that cupholder about a foot behind the shifter, but that will be very awkward when trying to drive. I'm curious as to why they didn't think to incorporate a "useful" one. Do Europeans not have this obsession that Americans do about always having to have something to drink? I can't speak for the rest of America, but if I'm going to be 15 minutes past the city limits, I am darned well gonna have a drink with me. (usually a diet pepsi or snapples raspberry tea)
I know a lot of Mini owners are not gonna like to hear this one but if I am going to be more than an hour on a trip, I also need something to munch on (yes...eating in the car!) like twizzlers or M&M peanuts. :D
Of course I still won't let anyone but me and the wife eat in the car. Hey, I gotta draw the line somewhere! crosebud Mar 31st, 2005, 01:54 AM Great name !!

Pamlico--Yes, Ocracoke Island is a bit far from San Francisco. My brother, his wife, and their child live in the Netherlands. I'm of course in San Francisco and my father lives in Virginia, so for a while we were renting a house on Ocracoke as a creative way to get together and spend time with my dad. But in recent years we've moved on to other rendezvous's. I'm sure Ocracoke has been changing a lot. September's probably a great time to go, but I guess we shouldn't tell anyone. Well, MINI drivers are allowed! Pamlico Mar 31st, 2005, 02:00 AM Right - everyone forget about this Ocracoke place - it's really gone downhill - stay away - don't waste your time and money getting there - you'll be very disappointed - really, honest.
When we are forced to make the long hot drive there on overly crowded roads we take our 4wd as the MINI hasn't proven itself to be very good on driving on the beach. Ken30307 Mar 31st, 2005, 02:37 AM WW seems to be MUCH more reliable than ASK MINI right now.
That only helps if your MINI is on a WW ship bandrews Mar 31st, 2005, 05:01 AM More good news re: delivery of my car! The owner's lounge now has listed an estimated delivery date for me of April 9, 2005. That's really close to now! The Takasago docks in Charleston today... any minute now, my MINI will be motoring on solid ground once again. If you are curious, you can track ship movements in the Port of Charleston at http://www.port-of-charleston.com/Vessel_schedule.asp - at some point today, the list at the top will include the M/V Takasago! Takes a couple days from that point for the cars to get railroaded up to the Spartanburg VPC... not too shabby.
Unfortunately, I reeeeally wanted that date to be April 6, 2005. Guess that was a bit optimistic. I would have so skipped this silly conference April 7-10th in St. Louis if I knew it was going to be my delivery weekend! Maybe if I get lucky, the railroading up to Spartanburg will happen over the weekend here, the car will hit the VPC on Monday and a truckload of cars will go out to Flow by Wednesday- but that's looking like a long shot at this point.
Now, when to fit it in if the car hasn't arrived by Wednesday... Guess I didn't REALLY need to go to combinatorics on Monday! :)
Ben Tom B Mar 31st, 2005, 11:17 AM Just checked the WW website and it's now showing 41 cars booked on the Resolve. Bad news is, 90% are "waitlisted". Good news is, mine isn't. :( :)
Tom AprilWhine Mar 31st, 2005, 11:51 AM As of this morning, MINIUSA tracking shows my car as en route; bad news is that the WW site shows my ship as being delayed by one day. The Cypress Trails is now scheduled to pull into NY on 4/2. No biggie, I can't pick up my car until 4/13 anyway because of vacation. | |
