: MARCH 2005 Group paulr Mar 31st, 2005, 11:48 PM Good luck everyone!
Is anyone planning any good road trips after they take delivery of their MINI?
I'm going east with my wife to visit family in sleepy Allegany Co. NY (any one from around there?). Then up to Toronto to see my favorite band, Blue Rodeo, hopefully at an outdoor concert

My first big trip will be to MoT! Check the thread in the NE forum. :) dpacker Apr 1st, 2005, 12:09 AM PS. It is very sad i have my VIN number memorized...
PPS. Countdown till i get my mini: 20 days
That's exactly what my husband said...not that it was sad that you had your VIN number memorized, but that I had mine memorized. :p
I think the first time he realized that I had a problem was when I was on the phone saying "vehicle production status", and then I started rattling off numbers. He said that it was very scary. Uh oh...did I just admit that I had a problem. I don't think we'll have to seek counseling though. I think we will all be okay once our little MINIs arrive.

You know, that might actually be better use of our time. Instead of trying to figure out where our boats are, we could be planning road trips. Road trips - awesome! I don't really have any particular road trips planned, but there are a couple of roads where I used to live (up near Ben's area) that I plan to hit at some point. There's also some good roads near Cherokee and Gatlinburg that would be fun too. It's too bad that we all don't live near each other, we could plan a March Production Group road trip!

Actually Deb, that's not a too-far-fetched idea when you think about it. I know I have a retired firefighter buddy in NC that has been screaming at me to come down to see him and his wife for over a year now. Since I am now retired too, I told him we would come down there when the wife picks some vacation time from work. Since the car will be new enough for us, road trips would be a kick to do. Or if nothing else, some could swap addresses to at least stop by and say hi to while on their own trips this summer.
Heck of an idea there Lil Missy... bandrews Apr 1st, 2005, 01:11 AM OK, more good news: my MINI is on dry land and (presumably) waiting for a train up to Spartanburg/Greer!

I don't think there are many obsessive tracking methods available to me at this point... ASK-MINI still says the car is "In Transit" and asks me to contact my dealer. Guess that's what I should do at this point... time to wrap up the annoying paperwork in advance so I have minimal hassle on delivery day! :)

That will likely be our first major trip. Might take a run or two up to Toronto between delivery and MOT (only 2.5 / 3 hrs away) as well. Ah...here's a hint for that... dial ASKMINI
then just press 2
the system will say "okay, vehicle production status"
then you can just dial in you production number...
the system will say "was that a veihicle production number or a VIN"
you can type in 1 for production number or 2 for VIN
and then it will tell you the information...you don't have to say a thing!! btdoyle Apr 1st, 2005, 02:53 AM Ah...here's a hint for that... dial ASKMINI

Dont give away trade secrets please. Ken30307 Apr 1st, 2005, 03:01 AM Dont give away trade secrets please.
I'm just keeping it within the MINI family ;) Tazminia Apr 1st, 2005, 03:06 AM I'm just keeping it within the MINI family ;)
<----prepares to sell secrets to the April, May and June production groups :D :D Ken30307 Apr 1st, 2005, 03:11 AM Ok looking at the resolve, there is about 450 minis trying to get on right now, it looks like the cut off day for the wait list is the 23rd, meaning everyone's mini who was received at the port after the 23rd is wait listed with an asterisk. I am guessing there is not that much room available on the resolve if the wait list starts this far back. Maybe it will change by tomorrow?
PS. It is very sad i have my VIN number memorized...

There's probably some sort of formula used based on final destination, availability for space on those decks, maybe queue position at the docks, moon phase, etc :p AprilWhine Apr 1st, 2005, 11:56 AM My hubby thinks they load the pretty colors first. You know, it makes as much sense as any other theory. :) jeffu Apr 1st, 2005, 12:04 PM No to moan - but darn it - send me my mini! It's still showing wait listed. It arrived at the port last Friday. If it doesn't make the ship today - which I doubt since it's still wait listed, then it won't have another shot until next Thursday. That's ridiculous that it has to sit at the port for 2 weeks. Put it in a box and FedEx it to me - can't be that hard.
Seriously - there has to be more ships or options to get a car here. I know I'm being impatient, but enough already  AprilWhine Apr 1st, 2005, 12:13 PM I can't believe my good luck, to have arrived at the port one day and be off on a ship the next. :)

Ok - I'm not sure I'm liking you. paulr Apr 1st, 2005, 12:28 PM I wonder if it has anything to do with higher volume dealers? Tom B Apr 1st, 2005, 12:49 PM I wonder if it has anything to do with higher volume dealers?
I think it has more to do with that nice donation (bribe :D ) that I sent to the WW dock-master. ;)

I second this... lol.... it's just not fair that west coasters have to wait so darn long for those gigantic ships to go all the way 'round through the Panama Canal!!! :( Tom B Apr 1st, 2005, 02:15 PM I second this... lol.... it's just not fair that west coasters have to wait so darn long for those gigantic ships to go all the way 'round through the Panama Canal!!! :(
They tried going straight through the Saint Lawrence Seaway once but they couldn't get past Michigan for some reason. ;)
Tom Tom B Apr 1st, 2005, 02:59 PM I just noticed something strange. Looking at the WW website, my car was received at the terminal on 3/30, but BOOKED on 2/3. I didn't order the car until 2/14.
I imagine that this slot was open and not filled until my MINI got to the dock? Possibly that explains why mine is one of the few not "waitlisted" on the Resolve?
So it's not WHEN your MINI is received at the dock, but when the slot on the ship was booked?
Any opinions?

My opinion, I think the slots are booked that far in advance then assigned to a particular car at the end of production. If a car is bumped from one ship, it doesn't get to bump a car already booked for the next ship. AprilWhine Apr 1st, 2005, 03:03 PM Bloody hell.
Yes, my production completed on 3/21, arrived at the port on 3/22, loaded and sailed on 3/23. :D
Pure luck, but I appreciate it. :D AprilWhine Apr 1st, 2005, 03:41 PM Someone already posted a link for the SC terminal, but here's the link for the NY/NJ terminal: Cargo Port (https://www.firstnynj.com/)
I just checked and the Cypress Trails is due to arrive tomorrow at noon, departing the same day at 1730. :) Well, they only have 200 MINIs to offload. paulr Apr 1st, 2005, 03:42 PM I second this... lol.... it's just not fair that west coasters have to wait so darn long for those gigantic ships to go all the way 'round through the Panama Canal!!! :(
It's the price you pay for living in such a nice part of the country. I'd gladly trade you snow and -20F January weather :D | |
