[QUOTE=After looking over some maps, I am planning a MINI run to Ocracoke Island. We'll take the free ferry and cruise the town. No fun roads, but it will be nice I think.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, it's a fun journey. The ferry ride is relaxing and really pretty. Hang out on the deck of the Jolly Rogers--you'll see it right in the village. I recommend the crab cakes. The strange thing is, turns out I'm going back to Ocracoke this summer. Just as I was posting about it on this board my brother called to say he wanted us all to meet there again. Only bad thing is I'll have to leave my MINI at home since it's a plane ride for me. AprilWhine, you'll have to take some photos of the MINI in Ocracoke and post them for us.

If you don't mind the back seat of a convertible... :D

And if you are tall, there are always solo drivers on these runs.

Yes...but you have the satisfaction of knowing that your MINI was built JUST for you and it's EXACTLY what you want. When I was looking at my MINI..they were some that were close to what I wanted..but I wanted MY MINI...it's worth the wait.

True, true.

Found the MINI Cooper rear black rubber cargo tray that's made for the convertable! Got it on ebay! My dealer is giving floor mats..I hope they are the rubber ones..don't really want the cloth.

While some people like the cloth mats I found them to wear pretty quickly. Ultimately I got a set of Cocomats which wear like iron, do a great job of protecting the carpet from the snow & salt that is common up here in the winter and also look pretty good as well.

And this is the year we decided not to go to Ocracoke !!!

The Hatteras ferry is an enjoyable ride. When we go to Ocracoke we usually first visit family and friends in Chapel Hill and take the 2 1/4 hr. ferry from Cedar Point which docks right in the village. On the ride from the North End of the island where the Hatteras ferry docks there is 1 MINI worthy S-curve, otherwise it's flat and straight. Crosebud I agree about the crabcakes at The Jolly Roger. Also stop off at Howard's Pub which is about the most popular restaurant out there (go after 7 or 7:30 when the crowds begin to lessen). I'm not a fan of gift shops, but do check out the Village Craftsmen on Howard Street and say hello to Phillip Howard for me (tell him the guy who looks like his brother says hello). If it's a hot day look for the Village Snowball stand for refreshing shaved ice.

Last summer we took a half day trip over to Portsmith Island which used to be the most populated place on the Outer Banks, but is now deserted except for one or two park rangers. We went with the guys who rent ATVs to use on Portsmith and really enjoyed ourselves. They'll take you over to Portsmith in a small boat and you'll get your ATV when you arrive. You'll get a brief tour of what remains of the village and then have a good deal of time to drive the beach on the ATVs. Great shelling and a great empty beach.

After typing this I want to go back to Ocracoke this year.

Bloody hell. So I talked to Rachael today at bill Jakob's. I have no idea where my ETD of 4/11/05 came from in the owners lounge because she says it wont hit the coast until the 11th and then its another 7 to 10 days to get to the dealer. I want my mini. Bill Jakob's gives floor mats free to everyone. I am a cooper s but i believe they give them to regular coopers too. It should be on your order summery they gave you when you ordered your mini with a n/c by it meaning no cost.

Order summary? I never got an order summary from my MA.

That is terrible about posting it coming on 4/11, I am calling Bill Jacobs tomorrow and seeing what the deal is with mine and chatting about those car mats.

You said that you received the cloth mats for free, I believe you bought yours at Bill Jacobs right? Who is your MA? That would help me out a bit in getting a possible discount on the rubber mats or at least pick me up a set of the cloth ones for free and then get the rubber ones. Any help for a fellow march build ;)

Sorry HyperBlueS, mine is coming from Patrick. When I was interviewing dealers, the MA I spoke with at Bill Jacobs did say that they would provide the floor mats.... they didn't specify which ones though.

My MA at Patrick let me pick which ones I wanted.

Hey Ken, did you order yours via the showroom or online (like I did)? They sent me a summary (I'm sure if you ask them for it, they would be glad to get you a copy) but just for reference, it may or may NOT say anything about those mats like BT was talking about. They are not listed on my summary but Rachel assured me we will be getting them. I don't have a clue which ones they will be giving us though. (rubber or cloth)

Also, to all who are probably doing what I am doing and calling ASKMINI just to hear it is at the VPC, I still show as in transit. I talked to Rachel via email and even told her the ship came in on saturday but she didn't know that. I suspect that they sometimes get a little swamped with everyone wanting to know what's going on and they may not be getting the most up-to-date info. (or they are trying and getting the same delay we are) She keeps telling me it takes 7 to 10 days to get from the VPC to Naperville but unless that includes the process time in SC, then something is hinky here. A passenger car semi can make the trip in a little over a day (including rests) but even going as far as saying 3 days, I think they say "7 to 10" to give them some fudge-factor to play with.
But that's just my humble opinion...

Ken, Mine was just a print out of the 'Design/MSRP' web page my MA was using to enter my order.

I'm going to have to talk to my MA about these free mats. Any MINI of Dallas customers get free mats? I guess he could see the "stupid, over eager customer" in my eyes and knew that $95 just wasn't going to sting me much...

Not that I really mind. But if y'all are getting free mats, I want free mats too...

Hey congrats!

Mine was on 3/14, that is cool yours was done on St. Pats. What dealership are you picking yours up at? We have a few picking up in the Chicago area. Did you also confirm you pickup with your MA? Or is that just off of the OL site?

I *am* tall, (for a girl), 5/11 and a half. Haven't tried the backseat of a MINI actually. But if I'm in Ocracoke during your run, would definitely hitch a ride around the village!

I NON believer amoungst our March Productions group?! Blasphemy!!
I knew you were right cuz we have the same MA. :D Mine didn't get written in but I've talked to her about it a few times but each time I DID talk to her I failed to find out which ones (rubber or cloth) we were getting. Just a guess here but I'm gonna say whichever is cheaper for them. ;)
Also, has anyones MA confirmed if the delivery date (I realize it's just an estimate) is the day WE get the car or the day it's delivered to the dealer from VPC?

Well, I'm in the game. My "vehicle is in transit," according to the nice recorded voice man at ASK MINI. So I've been thinking about this recorded voice man. You know how he says, "Greetings, fellow motorists!" with such enthusiasm. Do you think he *really* drives a MINI?
Okay, too much time on my hands . . .

You have a point about that guy though. Have you spoken to those "live" guys yet? They are even CHEERIER than the recorded voice! It's almost disgusting how polite, friendly and cheerful they are. :D

Good news for those of us on the NY leg of the Cypress Trail voyage. The WW site has just updated and all MINIs are showing as discharged.

I say that from my lowly height of 5'1" :D

Love to have you, I'll post a link in this thread when I get the Ok run together.

The Owners Lounge gave me a estimated delivery date of 4/11  I find that hard to believe since it's supposed to be in Charleston from a K-line ship on that date and at my dealer - hopefully - a week later :D

Anybody else getting way early delivery dates from the OL

Not me.
Mine's half way across the Atlantic on the Resolve and OL and ASKMINI are both saying it is still "awaiting transport".

Tom

Not an atypical situation. Even at their best the OL and ASKMINI can lag a few days behind reality. Once the car gets to the port things can, and frequently do, fall further behind. My '05 is at the docks (and perhaps the prep center) in NY and the official status from MINI is the same as yours.

It's comforting to know that i'm not alone in my confusion.
