Hi all!

We are due to pick up our new Cooper in a few weeks, and are currently looking at what modifications we'd like to do to personalise her, the colour scheme is electric blue, black roof and bonnet stripes, sunroof, darkened window glass, chrome line interior / exterior, full leather seats, anthracite dash / door inserts and chrono pack.

Currently we are planning on changing the side vents and repeater lenses, and perhaps fitting the minisport 4 spot lamp kit, but in order to fit in with the colour scheme we'd like to try and make a couple of changes to the interior.

The original spec instrumentation colour is orange, and I was wondering whether anyone knew whether this was the actual colour of the opaque plastic, or whether it was the colour of the bulb behind them? If it is the bulb, then I can't see it being too difficult a job to swap the bulbs for blue ones, and to replace the footwell bulbs and interior light bulbs with blue ones to give a moody blue light to match the exterior (and possibly fit some footwell neons to enhance the mood further!

Has anyone changed the colour of the illumination on the instruments? If so how did you do it? Have you any picks? What options are there available?

Any info, ideas or advice wold be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

Ah, thanks mikethemini! So, it is possible, but needs a lot of patience to remove the old leds and replace them all individually! Hmm, sounds like a pain in the bottom, but...... ;) Perhaps my hubby will do it for me if I smile nicely! Lol! ;)

Surely changing the light bulbs will NOT affect any sort of warranty. If course if the man is stubborn, I am sure you will be able to work around that issue rather easily ;) Good luck.
don't hesitate to contact ole Sarcux, he will be more than glad to help!

Errrrm.... have you seen the guide on how to do this?

Considering you need to remove half the dash and handle the electronic boards inside the speedo etc! I imagine any faults / rattles that you get in that general area will not be fixed under warrenty!

Holy crap that's awesome! Reminds me of my previous car, VW Golf...one of the best things about that car was the lighting on the instrument panel :)

I'm gonna give this a whirl in mine maybe, need some advice about Speedo though, I plan on getting a speedo from a breakers yard and installing that one instead of messing with my own in case I duff it up -does that present issues with the service interval/milage?

LED's can be found here

I wonder if there are colour switchable LEDs out there. Mazda's RX-8 has driver selectable colours for their dash. You can change them on the fly.

Color switching LED's would be possible using RGB or bicolor LED's, but to wire it all up would be an absolute nightmare!

I'm thinking about doing this mod, but having my Tach have Green from 0-4 Yellow from 4-6 and leave it red for 6+.

You are looking for the surface mount ultra bright LEDs by AND, stock numbers 505-3013 through 505-3016, those only come in blue and green. they are about a 1.50 each.
