: The Wilds jcsinnh Mar 11th, 2005, 02:24 PM OK, I confess to being a giraffe freak. I collect them (not the real ones, duh) and I have a small 'giraffe room'.
I'd like to take a trip this summer from NH to Ohio to The Wilds as I've heard their giraffe herd is very impressive. Anyone out there been to The Wilds or have any prelim. information I can use? Thanks
BTW, www.minisontop.com awaits midwesterners. We have some regulars from the heartland but another few Repub.....ooops sorry, just come on. It's a bi-partisan hoot! alpinamike Mar 14th, 2005, 04:55 PM I guess its good , its out on a big plot of lavd like a safari.
Check out their web page. Search on yahoo.com
Its in the middle of nowhere, on the way to columbus, OHIO.
Cleveland zoo you can get close to them. Along with bush gardens in Florida , near tampa. Your best bet.

No offense but how can anything in Ohio be in the middle of nowhere. Now if it were ND or TX, maybe. I've seen the website. Just looking for someone who's been there. Thanks anyway. alpinamike Mar 14th, 2005, 07:52 PM Its not far from me, and its a drive.
Nothing around it.
period.
-alpinamike bakerjc May 23rd, 2005, 03:05 AM John, you oughta stay in your own region. It's safer for you, and less disturbing to the others.
That said, whaddya say we meet up either at Southwicks or Providence? At Southwicks you can usually feed the giraffes. They like carrots. I'll have to find the pic of Em from about a hundred years ago or so. jcsinnh May 23rd, 2005, 07:45 AM You talking zoos? Southwicks? These cryptic MA guys really get me. bakerjc May 23rd, 2005, 12:23 PM You talking zoos? Southwicks? These cryptic MA guys really get me.
You think us MA guys are cryptic? What about you MAMA people. Double the confusion I tell you.
And you're double spacing again. Get back on your meds.
Southwicks is a zoo. Small one, excellent for young kids. Therefore, I think you'll enjoy it.
I'll meet you there. Tell me when. Close to Max too. Or maybe not.
http://tinyurl.com/c7ms3 bakerjc May 23rd, 2005, 12:24 PM And best of all they have sheep. jcsinnh May 23rd, 2005, 01:51 PM Hi, Jeff,
Seeing as how we have this whole thread to ourselves and, for all I know, the whole MidWest region...........how are you? How are Janice and the kids? What are the plans for Memorial Day weekend?
There is a Southwick, MA - right below Westfield, my old home. The only thing of note there is, as you know, Mrs. Murphy's Doughnuts. Now that's close to Max.
2 weekends ago, whilst in da Bronx, her holiness proclaimed a desire to go to the zoo there someday soon. That may be in the cards.
Spaces are good, they let the neutrinos roam.
BTW, I once spent a summer in Fairborn, OH with family connected to Wright-Patterson AFB and I know a guy in Cincinnati. Max has a girlfriend in Cincinnati. I've eaten at Carlucci's in Chicago. I like the Cubs more than the White Sox (or the Red Sox, for that matter). What else do we know about America's heartland?
No need to PM me...just use this thread. Rakey May 23rd, 2005, 02:03 PM this has got to be the weirdest thread I have seen on MINI2 for a long time:p AprilWhine May 23rd, 2005, 03:01 PM this has got to be the weirdest thread I have seen on MINI2 for a long time:p
Welcome Rakey, wondered where you were. :) Actual Size May 23rd, 2005, 05:18 PM I had an aunt and uncle that once lived in Cincinnati, then Cleveland, then Columbus, then Cincinnati again before they gave up and moved to St. Catherines, Ontario.

Ahhh...fond memories. Back when I had buns of steel and an intriguing suction device that could also be used for other purposes.
But I didn't know you were married to her........what a coincidence.
So where to next? South-East? Rocky Mountain? Actual Size May 23rd, 2005, 07:38 PM I, and the rest of Wormtown, will be pleased to see you. Staying in the cardboard city?

Seems like they aren't all that picky.......
Diet
Browsers: leaves and young shoots. Also eat seeds and pods.
Up to 100 species of plants recorded for the giraffe's diet. But, bulk of diet usually made up of only a few species of trees and woody bushes. Acacia spp. are favored in all locations. Additional species are different depending on location, and include the following genera: Combretum, Commiphora, Terminalia, Harrisonia, Pterocarpus, Cassia, Lonchocarpus, Grewia.
Rainy season: eat mostly deciduous species. Dry season: eat mostly evergreen species.
Consume 34 - 75 kg (75 - 165 lbs) of browse per day. Actual Size May 24th, 2005, 12:00 AM I'll be by the pool if you're looking for me.
