: Production # - 2+ weeks later no change? Axtell Mar 12th, 2005, 08:03 AM I was just curious if it's normal for there to be such a long time between receiving your production number and owner's lounge invite and any update? I check daily (I think most of us have/do), and it's been stuck 'On Order' since that first day.
Should I call my ASK-MINI to find out a time frame, or would my dealer be the best source of information on that? I know there's a process, just am eagerly (perhaps over-eager) anticipating the change.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Brian jdor1 Mar 12th, 2005, 08:07 PM Ax, for what it's worth, I ordered a MCSc back in the middle of February. I got a production number from the dealer straight away, and like you, checked the miniusa site almost daily. Then, after a couple of weeks, I asked the dealer why it was still listed as on order. The MA told me that it depended on which week of the year my production number was scheduled to hit the assembly line. For me, the order went in in mid-Feb and only today (12 Mar) did the status change from on-order to scheduled-for-production. Call it roughly a month since I laid down a deposit.
What you need to do is call the dealer and ask them what week your car should be made. They have access to a more detailed DB with that info. For instance, my dealer told me my production week was week 11 (the eleventh week of 2005). That's this week. In any event, you've got no reason to fret. jdor1 Mar 12th, 2005, 08:11 PM Your real problem is that CA address you've got. I understand it takes a lot longer to get a car to the west coast than to the east coast. I'm told (crossing my fingers) that an east coast delivery is in the range of 3-4 weeks whereas it's months for a west coast delivery. Ouch!! AprilWhine Mar 12th, 2005, 08:16 PM Here's how to find out where your MINI is on the production cycle: Track your MINI FAQ (http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_delivery#faq_faq_tracking_usa)
And it normally stays "On Order" for at least two weeks, sometimes a bit longer. HoustonMini Mar 12th, 2005, 08:56 PM And just to show that the opposite is true as well. sometimes (like mine) it only takes a few days to go into production. I ordered it on the 12th of Feb and it was Finished with production on the 28th of Feb. So after two weeks it was already finished. I think a week, maybe week and a half and it was scheduled for production. But you are right, I'm sure all of us checked it out. Just depends on which dealer, as they are allowed a certain number of cars per week I do believe. And when your is scheduled for production. rsinsheimer Mar 13th, 2005, 12:13 AM I ordered my car 2/11, I got my Production Number 2/16. I immediately checked the Mini website and noticed a huge discrepancy between what I'd ordered and what was listed as the options on the car. I contacted my MA who said YIKES, but by the time he went to change the order (which had been put into the system by his manager) it was too late. :(
Apparently what happens when you place your order is that they search a database of the cars that are already scheduled to be built for something close to what you want. Once they find it they add/subtract options to get it to match your order. My dealer had found one that was about to enter production, tried to get it right, and goofed. So they had to order another car!
I received a second Production Number on the 19th, this time they'd understandably selected a car which had a build date much further out into the future. The first car was finished over a week ago and is now on its way to the West Coast, the second one, correctly configured (I hope) is sitting on the dock in Southampton waiting for a ride. The clue (from our point of view) of when it's too late to change things appears to be when the VIN gets issued. Once the build cycle has gotten to that point they've scheduled the start-of-build date and the process has become inevitable and the options unchangeable. Our car was built starting 2/28, ending on 3/10 -- apparently this is much longer than the normal build cycle which (according to 866-ASK-MINI) is 7 days.
Hang in there, your car will be built, it will be delivered to your dealer -- you'll love it! :D Axtell Mar 16th, 2005, 08:01 PM Well am 3 weeks since receiving my production number and still shows on order...calling ASK MINI gets the same result.
I must just be impatient :( AprilWhine Mar 16th, 2005, 11:20 PM Well am 3 weeks since receiving my production number and still shows on order...calling ASK MINI gets the same result.

Your dealer can tell you what week build you have. From there, you can get a ballpark production date. Axtell Mar 18th, 2005, 05:12 PM Called the dealer this morning, and he said it was production week 15 (second week of april)...guess it's odd I got my production number that far in advance of it being built? I believe production numbers are allocated to the dealers six weeks before production. So not that odd, if your dealer has a waiting list. :) HoustonMini Mar 18th, 2005, 06:50 PM no worries Axtell, I was suppose to be a week 12 build (next week), and on Tuesday the 22nd of March my Mini will arrive in the States and head my way on land. Luckly I got pushed up to a week 9 (I think it was week 9..I never counted) build.
I believe I read somewhere that each dealer (depending on size and location) gets a certain number of allocated spots each week (or month, not 100% sure) for production. So if you are in a high volume area you could very well be on a waiting list, or get lucky like I did and somehow get pushed up 3 weeks. ;) Note: many spots are used for the dealer themselves, to keep cars on the lot. Maybe you could talk them into bumping you up and moving one of theirs back (if that happens to be the case - usually they will bump you up to get your car to you ASAP anyways.). Hope that helps.... | |
