: How Old Are You/what model do you drive? Simmo777 May 3rd, 2007, 10:08 PM Im not sure whats on the quote to be honest.
My dads sorting the whole insurance out, as he is quite high up in the business. He said it is possible though, around the 1.5k mark. Ruskins JCW May 3rd, 2007, 10:14 PM 17 and an MCS - im sorry but that is just daft - there is no way in high hell you would be able to insure an MCS on your own Insurance... im paying £1900 on a ONE...
In other words im calling BS :p
He aint chatting BS at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im 21 with a JCW and my brother is 19 with an MCS
We are both fully comp on our own name insurance...... ScottyBoy May 3rd, 2007, 10:28 PM He aint chatting BS at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im 21 with a JCW and my brother is 19 with an MCS

And how much does that cost you both?! jamesbeaumont May 3rd, 2007, 10:38 PM Just turned 20 and an R56 MC.
And btw...driving an MCS at 19 is crazy!!! I really hope you dont hurt yourself as I seriously doubt you have the experience to handle the power.... West9 May 3rd, 2007, 10:53 PM Im not sure whats on the quote to be honest.

Im sorry. If you're getting a price like that, you're not doing it legally.
I live in a 1b Postcode, which is one of the best areas to live in... and if by you're saying your adding your parents, you're doing it so one of them are the main drivers, hence illegal. And if you crash the car because your lack of experience, all I can say is more fool yourself when you're left 18k out of pocket and facing a lengthy fine and a custodial sentance :) West9 May 3rd, 2007, 10:54 PM He aint chatting BS at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know its possible - but at a cost of about 2.5k :) Simmo777 May 3rd, 2007, 11:37 PM Im sorry. If you're getting a price like that, you're not doing it legally.

Wow.
My dad works in Insurance, Im sure he knows a damn site more about it than you like to make out you do.
I hate the stereotype attatched to younger drivers, sure you get the idiots that total cars, however not all younger drivers are silly behind the wheel of a car. Im sure you can vouch for this at 19?
I ask you this, to what extent is a 19 year old, more experienced than an 18 year old. 80% of crashes with young drivers occur within the first few month of driving, assessing conditions incorrectly, taking un-necessary chances etc.
I sense a tad jeolousy. Seem to be getting awfully worked up, over nothing.
I think you'll find most younger drivers are insured through parents now a days, The premiums are simply unrealistic! 3k for a 1.0 litre car! no thanks.
The insurance companies are fully aware of this, why they have increased their premiums, even with young named drivers added to a policy. It's also extremely difficult for the insurer to prove. (although I'd probably share the car with my mum anyway!)
 Simmo777 May 3rd, 2007, 11:42 PM Also, as previously stated. My dad has retrieved the quote. So he's probably been able to get a hefty discount off the premium as he works within the business. I have no idea of the current details (not that their any business to you anyway!) West9 May 4th, 2007, 12:28 AM So you do admit that you are fronting the insurance. Case and point my freind.
Please remember what you said before, you're 17, just turning 18.. so you are in that bracket of in-experience, as am I. Im only 18 myself remember, I admit that. But, at the same time, im only 3 months from turning 19, so i've had my licence nearlly a year longer than you.. so alot more matey. I may still be an at risk driver, but im out of the bracket that you are still in... call it stereotyping if you wish, but its hard statistics my freind, hence why they jack premiums up to stop 17 year olds with more money than sense driving round in a 175bhp car!
But I have open experience, of 17 year olds being CAUGHT fronting their insurance, and almost being sent to prison because of it, for the simple reason of not carrying valid insurance, and if you do this, that is basically what you are doing.
Next point, you say its extremley difficult for insurance to check up on policies like this, again, you are incorrect. Ok you say your dad works in insurance, okay fair play. But I know most of the bigger insurance companies go as far as using PI's to find out who has been driving the vehicle,
I bring you this..
HOT TOPICS Feb 2007
This is the 11th edition of the ‘Hot Topics’ newsletter which aims to provide a personal update on developments and initiatives from NUI that I feel will be of interest to you.
These are only brief headline articles but if you would like to know more please contact me direct.
Important information on ‘Fronting’
Fronting is the means of obtaining insurance by deception. A parent may ‘front’ a policy for an inexperienced driver in order to reduce the insurance premium. If fronting is proven insurers can treat the policy as void, return the premium and repudiate any claims reported. The premium may be retained against claims already paid and the difference recovered from the policyholder/ driver. Third party claims may become the responsibility of the vehicle owner/main user. In addition from 15th Jan 2007 fronting becomes an offence under the Fraud Act 2006, and can lead to imprisonment, fine or both. Please help us to avoid this by ensuring all policy details are correct at both quote and renewal stage.
This was actually sent out to all of Norwich unions insurance policy holders.. and if that doesnt proove my point, I dont know what will :) West9 May 4th, 2007, 12:30 AM Also, as previously stated. Just trying to help you to see sense..
Also 3k on a 1L - thats just being stupid... its not that bad, but the reason that some policies are so high for younger male drivers, is for that reason, because we're still young, and male :)
I sense a tad jeolousy. Seem to be getting awfully worked up, over nothing.

That that particular paragraph says alot mate. Im sorry if you are willing to take this kind of risk, you dont deserve a driving licence.
And jelousy.. no, not by a mile...
I hate to tell you dude, thats reality, and it bites. Andyblizz May 4th, 2007, 08:05 AM 27 - R53 Mcs Simmo777 May 4th, 2007, 08:29 AM So you do admit that you are fronting the insurance. Case and point my freind.
No.
The rest you've typed is all BS, you've just repeated yourself.
This statement says it all, I clearly said, i dont know the details. If you know so much about insurance, being a tow driver, why dont you work in it?
As i said, twice now. I dont know the poilcy details, 1.5k seems a lot for a named driver policy. He may have me as the main driver so i can earn my no claims, and him as a named driver, then he'd get his discount, so this can easily equate to £1,500 odd.
175? think there 163bhp, Not particuarly quick, I test drove one a little while back, i was actually quite surprised, i expected more out of the thing! lovely to drive, in that its smooth, and comfertable, Hardly a ferrari though
Im not going to bother replying anymore, to me, it looks like you're jeolous. You're driving a mini one, paying more than someone youger is driving a Cooper S.
Im also certain my Dad would act within the legislation concerning Insurance, He knows more about Insurance than both of us put together, so to be honest, this whole debate is pointless.
Sorry for the thread Jack, as i said, 18 (almost) with hopefully, MCS, MC or Clio 182. Ruskins JCW May 4th, 2007, 10:08 AM I know its possible - but at a cost of about 2.5k :)
It aint 2.5k either.......I pay £900 Full Comp Own name for a JCW with Admiral
My Brother pays £1500 Full Comp Own name for MCS hu0u5078 May 4th, 2007, 10:12 AM No.

Sorry for the thread Jack, as i said, 18 (almost) with hopefully, MCS, MC or Clio 182.
The new R56 is 175bhp the R53 is 163bhp. You sound extremely ungratefull  , most people would give an arm or a leg for a MCS at 18, even for a MINI one or cooper. You are very privilaged to have the option of these cars.
A MCS isn't a ferrari, but compared to most Average cars on the road it is very quick. The fact that you said it isn't does show your inexperience as a driver as if you have driven/drive slower cars (not just on a test drive) you would appreciate this. Do you even have a licence?
If you can get insurance for the price you say then good luck. Before you say I'm Jealous, I drive a R56 MCS and R53 MC at 20. And am very grateful to be driving either of these cars. Ruskins JCW May 4th, 2007, 10:14 AM Just turned 20 and an R56 MC.
And btw...driving an MCS at 19 is crazy!!! I really hope you dont hurt yourself as I seriously doubt you have the experience to handle the power....
How is it crazy?? There are drivers that have been driving many years who you sit behind and wonder how the HELL they passed their test.
19 with an MCS isnt crazy at all..........So does that mean for me at 21 its crazy to have a JCW?
 carlos_nomad May 4th, 2007, 10:43 AM This argument is getting completely off the point of the thread.
I personally find it unrealistic some of these very young people saying they are insured on a MCS, I spoke to numerous insurers who stated that they would not consider insuring someone my age (even as a named driver) on a MCS.
But leave them too it, people can say what they want! LadyVCooperS May 4th, 2007, 11:03 AM My boyfriend went from a Mini One to a JCW at the age of 21, he's now 23.
I had a MCS at the age of 24, and now I have a Mini One Convertible
My brother had a cooper at the age os 17 for his first car. Ruskins JCW May 4th, 2007, 11:20 AM This argument is getting completely off the point of the thread.

Why would people lie, You wanna arange a meet and ill be there to prove people like YOU wrong. It dont suprise me you can get insurance on an MSC, might be coz you live in Birmingham!!!!!!
Trouble with people like you......Jealous!!!!!!!! An before you say no i isnt, it clearly is.
Oh and Thanks LadyVCooperS.....just proves live in Herts you can get insured like she said her BF went from one to JCW at 21.....Im 21 i have a JCW.......Unlucky is all i can say
Also look at my profile you can see car with its personal plate. "Rus" Russell Hmmm couldnt be mine could it lol vigilante May 4th, 2007, 11:35 AM I'm 24 and drive a modified MINI ONE though one day in my late 20s (maybe) hope to own a
R53 MCS JCW 210
As far the arguments in this thread - There are many factors considered on an insurance quote and a lot is to do with the postcode lottery. If these young peeps have managed to get insurance on an MCS or a JCW then good for them. I remember when I was 17 have to pay £700 on my 998cc Mini Neon completely standard and that was for 3rd party only! At the end of the day my choices in life have lead me to the point where I drive what makes economical sense and I don't regret any of my choices. Some people decide you only live once, bring on the debt - some people have made the choices in life or have been blessed with a general abundance of pennies, they have done well for themselves and therefore are in a position to easily afford luxuries...at the end of the day we should not judge each other on these things and argue amongst ourselves when lets face it there are more important issues to quibble over.
Here endeth the lesson :) deanquartermaine May 4th, 2007, 11:39 AM 24 - drive a 56 reg Cooper Park Lane Simmo777 May 4th, 2007, 11:41 AM Ruskins, buddy you hit the nail on the head.
Im by no means ungrateful. Im paying for everything I am lucky enough to have. Im also extremely blessed with a caring Dad, who helps me out where he can. Which, again I highly appreciate.
As you say, arrange a meet, I'll be there!
I've one freind with a R56 Cooper, brand new, another with a CS. Both at 19.
They are highly appealing cars, Im not particuarly swayed by their performance, dont get me wrong, their powerful compared to most middle cars, its more the exclusivity of them, they are not owned by boy racers, looking to get them wrapped around a lamppost. But more by car enthusiusts, who appreciate the car for what it is.
You can go fast in a 1 litre car, the fact that its slightly faster, is to me irrelevant. If anything, the CS is safer, it would grip the road better, much more unlikely to roll. The R53 is NCAP 4? again, probably much better than a fiesta!
If you can afford it, why not?!! Ruskins JCW May 4th, 2007, 11:48 AM Ruskins, buddy you hit the nail on the head.

Hmm, maybe, althought B'Ham is a big place with areas which differ greatly in insurance price, mine being one of the lower ones.
Trouble with people like you......Jealous!!!!!!!! An before you say no i isnt, it clearly is.
I was just stating from my experience no company wanted to insure me on a MCS, just seems strange how so many people have not encountered this. Will_'S' May 4th, 2007, 12:01 PM All this argument is based on circumstance i.e were you live or whose policy your on age etc etc but the main point is most people can find a qoute from somwhere if they're willing to pay the premium, going on someones policy just slows the procees down as your not aquiring any no claims on most policys but i was insured from the age of 19 on 205 gti's 1.9, MCS ang a GP i just payed for it but recently moved to a post code were my premium rose 200 notes. Hence why i am insured on a JCW at 21.......I have always had my own insurance since 17 and have 4 years no claims, which are now protected.
