I have a 2005 one d with alarm and am going on holiday in the summer for 3 weeks. Will the battery last to keep the alarm active for this time? anyone know?

What would be the maximum time I could expect the battery to keep running it?

When everything has turned off, which takes about 10 - 15 minutes after the car is left, the current consumption is about 20 mA, with a pulse of about 100 mA for 1 second every minute.

20 mA will run the 80 Ah battery flat in about 4000 hours or about 6 months, athough you would need quite a lot left to start the engine. An old battery will have less capacity.

20 mA is probably quite a lot less than the self discharge rate of anything except a brand-new battery.

The problem is that when the battery goes flat the alarm sounds, as it thinks that the battery has been disconnected!

There are 2 issues:

1) will the battery still power the alarm for 3 weeks?

2) will the car start if left for 3 weeks?

Answer to both should be "yes, no problem" - as long as there aren't other power drains.

If you are worried put some jump leads in the car before you go or call MINI assistance if it won't start.

Suggest if parking on level ground that you leave the handbrake off and put the car in gear to stop the brakes binding.
