Yup.

Had they not gridded up at all, according to FIA/concorde agreement, it would have been voided as a championship points paying race.

So while it was hardly a race for the spectators, the rule book says it was, in fact, a race.

Looks like the penalties or findings wont be a harsh as the wording of the FIA statement might lead you to think.

The Michelin 7 could practically argue that they assured that FIA F1 WC points were
awarded correctly. That the teams who deserved the points got them.....that is that they
decided not to have the race voided for points by effectively 'starting'.

Fun...

Yeah but I think the Swiss base will be a sticking point for them, the new wind tunnel may swing it though.

Canberra's own Mark Webber. :)

:indi:

F1 has never really inspired me to follow teams as such, although I'd have to say I've generally got a soft spot for McLaren and Williams. Keke Rosberg was my first favourite driver, then Alain Prost. And Nigel was always good for that mo!

I was a Senna fan :D Then when Shu killed him, I started going for the Ford team... (M.Shu @ Benneton)

He then got popular with the w o g s at school and I kinda moved away towards BMW Williams. Then Webber came and he looked pretty good - then he went to Jag - I just like to see good racing most of all.

I respected Senna, eventually, and always admired his raw skill and talent, but IMO he was definitely a flawed genius. And it would be a lie for me to call myself a fan. That said it still hurts when I remember watching his accident. That was the worst thing I've ever witnessed in F1, and probably sport in general. Still can't believe it in some ways. :(

Same deal with Schumi, dunno what it is. His debut at Spa with Jordan was spectacular, but again I've never really warmed to him. Although there's no denying he is simply one of the best ever. Baastaad! :p

I don't think Toyota would be marketing their Lexus marque in F1 just yet. How about AudiWilliams....:D

Yep Audi or VW would be a great bet.......more likely VW as I'm sure they'd like to compete with Toyota and undermine MB & BMW at the same time. Weren't they sniffing around Sauber a year or two ago ?

We need a new poll question and thread.....?????WilliamsF1

There's been scuttlebutt about VW/Audi, or more appropriately, VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) looking into F1 for a while now. From what I've read any such move would be under the Audi name.

I wouldn't be surprised with a hark back to the glory days of Williams Renault (Nissan) F1... ;) .
But the sad thing is they are now once again an independent team, hopefully they'll remain strong and not become a Jordan/Minardi....

The name and history should attract a prestige/european manufacturer

They managed to kick arze at LeMans again this year, even with all the new restrictions imposed on the R8's, so I definately wouldnt be complaining if they wanted a look in at F1 :p

A few times.... Honda - out, Renault - out, BMW - out, Ford - out.... not much left over.

Maybe Porsche might come back... TAG Porsche like in the 70's & 80's

Heck, with all this speculation about engines, maybe Nick's Lotus will get a gurnsey! Tune 'er up :p

I reckon the BMW deal has been cashflow neutral....plus a few ugly 7's for the directors to drive.

Only needs another engine manufacturer to provide engines at no cost and hey presto
all's well.
