: FORUMula ONE!! (Motorsports banter) ScottyB Feb 23rd, 2006, 08:54 PM I reckon it could be true, as he would be pretty p*issed about Alonso coming into the team, which also means bad juju for Montoya!!
Exactly... Dennis was definitely foolish to announce that deal so early. Todd! Feb 24th, 2006, 01:56 AM I think there are great drivers and great drivers with a large technical knowledge... some have natural talent and others have the skill and mechanical know how and get the bit more out of a car, nothing I have ever seen from Kimi points to me that he is a grat technical driver.
Michael Shumacher is a wonderful technical driver, his input makes for a better performing car that he can drive to a race victory... Taking Ferrari from the back of the pack into a Championship in 1997 prove this.
Kimi is driving an excellent car (all cars are excellent in F1) he has to make it a winner at every track to get his drivers championship.

hehe, I can just see KR telling (mumbling) that fatso kraut N Haug that his engines are crap, and that he'd better get his act together if he wants to win the WC.....that's the sort of senstive technical input that's been missing.... ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 03:07 AM naaaa.. Haug came out and said it (http://www.mini2.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2256356&postcount=1698) before Kimi needed to :p Jammy Dodger Feb 24th, 2006, 03:09 AM Track record is 1.13.552 too...

The pace is not much off from the V10s is it?
Wasn't the point of smaller engines for safety reasons? ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 03:14 AM The pace is not much off from the V10s is it?

Ideally yeah - the idea was to slow down the cars by ~4-5 seconds a lap (emphasis on hindering higher top speed)
We've seen 3-4 seconds at most tracks though.
Honda have made it back at Barcelona though - pretty impressive that with ~200HP less they're still running comparable times. Shows you how far aero (and tyre maybe) advancements go these days I guess. ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 04:23 AM Pics from Barcelona - 23rd...

True,
but I just think Ferrari is technically and professionally superior enough atm to be able to cope without a technical driver. You would have to say that Schuey was the one that enabled them to be so, and you never know, after a while he might just came back as a driver 'advisor'. Could all fall apart, but Kimi almost did it last year with an inferior car.
Give him the Rari, let the Doc take the spotlight (and publicity) and watch the Iceman quietly lead his way to a WC.;) ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 04:30 AM (5)

I'm no expert, but it does not look any different to the old one, to me. ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 10:01 PM Times - Barcelona Feb 24th.. ScottyB Feb 24th, 2006, 10:02 PM Williams:
Sam Michael, Technical Director, WilliamsF1:
“Today Nico and Alex finished testing in the cold conditions in Barcelona. Nico worked on tyre testing for Bridgestone, focusing on their different compounds. Meanwhile, Alex concentrated on long runs to investigate various mechanical set-ups and brake cooling. We tested some new aerodynamic parts for the FW28 this week and confirmed they are all working as expected.”
Simon Corbyn, Head of F1 Race Engineering, Cosworth:
“Cosworth completed this week’s Barcelona test in reasonable shape. The first day was difficult as we had to stop running Mark’s primary Series 2 test engine when it developed a leak which couldn’t be fixed trackside. In addition, Nico suffered an engine failure, although this was at high mileage and was an earlier spec engine. Fortunately, the remainder of the test was rather less eventful as Alex successfully exceeded the two race weekend target mileage on his Series 2 engine, plus we were able to complete valuable engine calibration work in preparation for Bahrain.”
Renault:
Third and final day for the Renault F1 Team at the Circuit de Catalunya.
The Renault F1 Team has been running at the Catalan circuit since Wednesday, and during the final day, concentrated on pit-stop and qualifying practice. As the programme makes clear, the first race is nearly upon us.
Getting your eye in, approving new procedures, adapting to the return of tyre changes: all of those things meant it was important for the Renault F1 Team to spend time practicing pit-stops today. The team ran through its drills to train and improve their skills: tyre changes, refuelling, nose changes, wing changes, everything was evaluated during today?s work. Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella each completed more than a dozen stops today to allow themselves and the team to train, two weeks before the start of the season.
The rest of the day was spent practicing for the 2006 qualifying procedure. The drivers evaluated the new system, the team practiced its operating methods, and spent time working out how to optimise the very restricted operating windows during the hour.
In terms of laps covered, the day was once more a busy one: 96 laps for Fernando Alonso and 97 for his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella. Both drivers? performance was once again very promising, with the Spaniard topping the times with a lap of 1:14.085.
After this busy week, the team will test for one final time before the start of the 2006 season, on Monday and Tuesday next week in Valencia. doona Feb 24th, 2006, 10:14 PM I'm no expert, but it does not look any different to the old one, to me.
