Threat to Italian Grand Prix now over
Compromise of over noise issues at Monza
12/04/06 12:19
A serious threat to the running of September's Italian Grand Prix has now ended.
With the recent noise restrictions in place at Monza, it appeared likely that the historic venue would not be permitted to allow the Grand Prix to go ahead.
According to local reports, however, a compromise has been reached that will reduce the year-wide ban on noise of more than 70 decibels to just 37 days - enough for Formula One and F3000 to still take place. F1 cars peak at about 130 decibels.
La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that the regional Council of Lombardy unanimously amended the ban that had originally been approved by a Milan court.
Interestingly, the Le Mans Series cancelled the round originally scheduled for 23rd and 24th of September. 'A Tribunal Order has ordered the circuit to skim its calendar, starting with the noisiest competitions,' they stated.

-Dan enzothemaddog Apr 17th, 2006, 12:43 AM A little birdie told me something speculative about Rossi yesterday.
'Apparently' Nicky Hayden has quietly signed up for Valentinos seat at Yamaha next year as VR is focussing on his impending arrivial at Ferrari in 07'.
As speculation goes, this would be advantageous for Ferrari as it gives them the ability to let Michael decide if he's to stay or not so they can build a battle plan to acquire Kimi.
Valentino maybe no good for F1 but the hundreds of millions in sponsorship money would heal the wounds id imagine...... ScottyB Apr 17th, 2006, 08:10 AM Rossi to make Ferrari decision by June?
MotoGP superstar Valentino Rossi has revealed that he will make a decision on whether or not to quit the sport for F1 - and Ferrari, in the next few months.
Rossi, who has tested regularly for the team and who surprised many in a pre-season outing in Spain, when he mixed it with the usual F1 midfield, conceded though that it would be a big gamble, not only for Ferrari but him too. However following reports that Michael Schumacher will remain with the Scuderia in 2007 and 2008, having agreed a new two-year deal [see separate story], Rossi may be better placed, as the Prancing Horse will at least have the German's experience and expertise to continue to lead them - and of course he will be on hand to advise Rossi and help him as he makes the transition.
"It is a big gamble and a big risk for Ferrari - but not as big as it is for me," he confirmed to British newspaper, The News of the World. "We will know something between now and June.
"I've tried not to think about it for a while now. That way I will have a clearer mind when I have to make the decision."
The Yamaha rider though isn't seen as a good choice by all at Ferrari. Indeed it is quite the contrary with some sceptical about whether or not he can make the cut on four wheels.
"I don't think there is an anti-Rossi camp. But there are people who are thinking coldly about the pros and cons," added Rossi.
Rossi's is likely to face stiff competition for the second seat, especially as Kimi Raikkonen has apparently already signed a letter of intent to move to Ferrari from McLaren. (Crash.net)
Looking more and more possible really.. ScottyB Apr 17th, 2006, 03:06 PM hmmmm.... maybe - maybe not? :p
Schumi signs new two-year deal with Ferrari?
Ferrari team leader, Michael Schumacher has apparently agreed a deal to stay with the Scuderia in 2007 and 2008, having signed a new £60 million contact.
Although there is still no official confirmation from the team and no announcement is expected until the summer, British newspaper, The News of the World is reporting that the deal is done, although he has a special clause in it, that means he could quit one year early, if he felt the desire.
"Michael is going to carry on next year," a Ferrari 'insider' told the tabloid 'paper. "He sees no reason why he should retire because the motivation to win is still there. Only a few people at the team know the deal has been done."
Schumacher himself meanwhile, he will get a £5 million per year pay rise under the new agreement, hiking his rumoured salary from £25 million to £30 million, is understood to be extremely happy with the deal.
"I will continue doing what I do as I have always done – with great enthusiasm and a will to win. Things are fine within the team. Everyone is pulling in the right direction and we all want to win," he said recently when talking in the countdown to next weekend's San Marino GP.
Where this leaves Kimi Raikkonen, who is thought to have signed a letter of intent to join Ferrari in 2007 is unknown. However, unless the Finn is guaranteed equal number one status it now seems unlikely he will move from McLaren-Mercedes, something that will almost certainly mean Juan Montoya is left as the odd one out, when Fernando Alonso joins Ron Dennis' squad from Renault next year.
Who will partner Schumacher in '07 is unclear then, although MotoGP ace, Valentino Rossi is still said to be a possible, as of course will be current number two driver, Felipe Massa. (Crash.net) ScottyB Apr 21st, 2006, 03:15 PM Practice 1 - Times

22 4 Juan Pablo Montoya McLaren-Mercedes ScottyB Apr 22nd, 2006, 11:34 AM Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso continued their domination of the San Marino Grand Prix weekend in the final practice session before qualifying.
Schumacher was fastest with a lap of one minute 23.787 seconds at his Ferrari team's home Imola track, beating Alonso's Renault by 0.281secs.
Alonso's team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella was third, 0.590secs behind Schumacher.
Ferrari's Felipe Massa was fourth, followed by McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, with Jenson Button's Honda seventh.
Button clocked up the laps on Saturday morning after admitting his car needed improvement after Friday's practice.
The Englishman improved steadily through the session and after 23 laps moved within a second of Schumacher with 1:24.850.
Fellow Briton David Coulthard was 13th for Red Bull, while Vitantonio Liuzzi, returning to the scene of his only Formula One point, spun on his way to 10th for Scuderia Toro Rosso.
Another F1 newcomer Nico Rosberg struggled, losing control of his Williams at turn six and bouncing across the grass until he slammed into a tyre wall.
Rookie Yuji Ide spun his Super Aguri on his very first lap of the day before twice repeating his spin in the same place on his way to 21st, over five seconds down on Schumacher.
It was even more disappointment for Juan Pablo Montoya, who failed to set a lap in his McLaren. (BBC) ScottyB Apr 22nd, 2006, 11:34 AM Montoya to T-car, escapes grid penalty.
Juan Pablo Montoya's Imola weekend has been seriously compromised by a fuel system fault that struck the Colombian during Saturday morning's practice session.
Montoya did not complete a flying lap in the crucial last hour, and will now have to go into qualifying at the wheel of the McLaren T-car, which has not run at all this weekend. However, his race engine will be swapped over, so he will not face a ten-place penalty on the grid.
Montoya's race car was a brand new chassis that had not turned a wheel before Friday and, while it got through its first day without trouble, gremlins are not unknown in newly built-up cars. The complexity of the fuel system meant that it was too risky to attempt to trace the fault before qualifying, especially with no guarantee of finding it. However, a last minute switch to the T-car, without an engine swap, would have been very expensive.
"Juan reported a misfire after leaving the pits," Martin Whitmarsh told Crash.net, "It was caused by a lack of fuel pressure at high demand - in other words, in seventh gear. The electronics seem okay, so it might be the mechanical fuel pump. This is a new chassis, with a new fuel system. Historically, we would run a new car at a test before bringing it to a race, but this time we didn't.
Occasionally, you get some infant mortality in a component but, at the moment, we can't see anything. Given the time available, we're switching to the T-car." (Crash.net) ScottyB Apr 22nd, 2006, 01:05 PM Quali:
