As for model year changes, MINI does the rolling change. I believe all the 2006 changes were incorporated starting with the March build cars. May build cars will still be Model Year 2005 on paper, but 2006 in reality. ;) IMHO of course. ;)
AprilWhine: What are the 2006 changes? (If I missed this in an earlier thread, please point me in the right direction.)
My May built car will have the changes?
I think the biggest change was the factory armrest becoming available, and being included in the premium package on the convertibles.
Can you think of any others Taz? jetstar1 May 10th, 2005, 12:36 AM Your location is Midwest, so your MINI is probably going to come in through NY. If so, that is the best VDC, as far as waiting goes. My car arrived in Southhampton one day and was loaded and gone the next. :) Also, when the ship arrived in NY, my car was offloaded and through the VDC over a weekend! It seems like all the NY cars ride WW, SC cars are about evenly split, and CA cars go Kline or NYK.

It kills me to admit this AW, but I'm not overly product knowledgable on the prior models to be able to say whats new on the later 05's. I think I remember someone telling me that the larger cupholder and the little catch-all pocket tray (below the switches where there was no tray before) were not on the earlier models. The arm rest is a standard on some of the fancier models only if I'm not mistaken. (premium pkg on the S or convert?) My standard MINI didn't offer it as standard but as an option.
Those are all guesses people, keep that in mind.
Capt. Clueless :p catshannon May 10th, 2005, 02:29 AM Mine went to scheduled for production some time last week with completion the first week of May (looking like May 2nd!) My dealer had quoted my delivery date as Aug 30th when I ordered March 30th. I am probably going to get my Cooper S two months early :). I am getting really excited now.
My baby:
Cooper S Hyper Blue / Black
Cold Weather Package
Convience Package
Premium Package
Xenon Headlights
DSC
Limited-Slip
Harmon-Kardon Hi-Fi
nmlacoopers I have pretty much the same car, except instead of the convenience package I went with the Sports package and eventually have to buy winter tires :)
Looks like our cars were built around the same time...the Owner's Lounge says it is Awaiting Transport while the automated system says waiting for paint job completing May 8th...so the OL is actually more up to date...
I am soooo excited...too much other stuff happening this summer for me so I have only been able to check my status today after about a a 5 days gap and when I saw awaiting transport I was bouncing off the walls.
I am moving to Boston mid-June and hope my Mini will be waiting when I arrive....
Fingers Crossed for everyone Hobbit May 10th, 2005, 02:35 AM Hobbit -- Once mine reached the paint shop everything happened very quickly and before I knew it he was queued up for the ship! Time will fly -- be patient! pb
It is tough to be patient. My husband is getting tired of me just randomly saying something like, "It will actually be later than expected". I was thinking aloud again about when the car will be done at the factory. Thank goodness you guys understand my current obsession.
;) Tazminia May 10th, 2005, 02:43 AM Thank goodness you guys understand my current obsession.

Understand?!?! We LIVE it. :o
Me: (calling from in the shower) "Honey, will you bring me a dark polo shirt from the closet?"
Wife: "Which one? The Hyper Blue, British Racing Green or the Jet Black?"
Me: " :bad: " Tazminia May 10th, 2005, 03:04 AM WOW!! I was originally scheduled for production 5/22, but it turns out it started 5/5! I'm insane right now.
The one thing that has me concerned is that the owner's lounge has my factory ordered options listed, and some are missing. The DSC isn't listed, neither are the Nav. System. or fog lamps. The dealer definitely seems to have the correct list of options that he insists he submitted. Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks!

Yes and it is quite common too. Give it a couple of days to correct itself (don't know why it works but it does) and everything should be back to how you ordered it. If, however, after a couple of days have gone by and the specs are still different from yours, contact your MA. Have HIM (or her) check it out too so he can see what's wrong, first hand. Now that you have started production...it may be too late to make any changes, but let's hope not. Good luck. BobsWifesMini May 10th, 2005, 03:37 AM Yes and it is quite common too. Taz, for some reason I don't see the original post that you just answered here!
But, as to Gen's question. I had the dealer completely miss an option. They had it right on all the paperwork, but it turned out they entered it wrong.
We ordered the v-spoked wheels, which are a no charge item for the S convertible. But they didn't show up on line. I called the ASK-MINI folks and said "are they on there, and if not what is the product code the dealer has to enter?"
The dealer had assumed that since they were no-charge wheels, they would just be correct. If I wouldn't have called then the 7-fin wheels would have shown up. I gave the dealer the right code to enter and it was fixed the next day.
I recommend going through the options you expect with the ASK-MINI folks. Tell them every feature you expect to be on the car, and if there is a mistake you have to have the dealer fix it. When the ask-mini folks agreed with everything on the car, I felt much better. Tazminia May 10th, 2005, 12:52 PM Taz, for some reason I don't see the original post that you just answered here!
I don't either but I really truly didn't make it up! HONEST!
Dunno what happened there...(insert eerie ghost sounds here)
I concur that dealers mistype stuff in a lot, but sometimes the first call to ASKMINI is a little unnerving in that the specs can be waayyy off for a day. My personal theory on that? I believe the dealers have allotments already on the books and when someone like us come in, they insert our names on the pre-specced car. (If we then call ASKMINI, our names are on a car usually specced totally different from ours) Then, before production starts, the dealer then changes the specs for us-to what we wanted. However, that's just an off-the-wall theory of mine that could be as hairbrained as alchemy.

*faints* BobsWifesMini May 10th, 2005, 05:53 PM Yes, our production slot was for a Blue Mini, then after we ordered they changed it to a REALLY COOL MINI! But after it was changed is when I noticed the error. ASK-MINI confirmed it even thought the dealer said that it probably was OK. Other wise we would have had the wrong wheels and tires and the dealer wouldn't have had stock to change it.
We clicked over to PAINT SHOP yesterday and are still scheduled to complete on Thursday the 12th.
Hobbit's will probably be on the same ship with ours. acande1 May 10th, 2005, 07:48 PM Yes, our production slot was for a Blue Mini, then after we ordered they changed it to a REALLY COOL MINI! I'm sorry I forgot but, when did you say yours went into production? I think mine went in last Friday 5/6/05 but can't be sure because I thought even the automated ASKMINI was behind a couple days. Also, how do you know it is in the Paint Shop? Did an operator tell you that or was it the automated ASKMINI? I guess I'm just hoping that maybe my car will be on the same boat as yours...
Just a tiny bit jealous...... :) BobsWifesMini May 10th, 2005, 08:08 PM I'm sorry I forgot but, when did you say yours went into production? Mine started showing up as in production on April 29th. That is from the automated ASKMINI. The folks that pick up the phones told me it went into production at 4:30am. With all that said, the completion date is May 12th.
Nothing changed from the 29th until May 8th. I punched out to a real person at ASKMINI who said that it was updated early Monday (9th) to in Body Shop and later in the day (9th again) to Paint Shop.
So yes a live body at ASK Mini. They now feel that even though it said "IN Production" that maybe the HK stereo issues held it up almost a week since April 29th to May 12th is 14 days and most Minis complete in 7-8 days with the fastest about 5 days.
Call ASKMINI, get a live person. If the person you get doesn't know, hang up, call again and get someone else.
My two favorite folks there are Meg and Todd.
Anyone else have a vote for who they like the most at ASKMINI? How about for the worst!
Come on...Most of you all call at least twice a day!

Yep, they will probably be together. I just called about 30 minutes ago and they said it had entered the Assembly Line this morning. w00t! Genevieve May 10th, 2005, 08:39 PM Hi Guys - Yes, I deleted my post when I realized the only reason I didn't see all the options was b/c my computer wasn't scrolling down!!
I did, howver, have a slight problem with the chrome mirror caps and hinges option, versus the stand alone chrome mirror caps option. I wante the hinges, but OL said I only got hte caps. It came down to verifying that the code # was correct, which it was.
Thanks for your replies!

Yes, actually the back of my car will be furry. :D
And as for the name..I like the idea of Smeagol/Gollum. Although I hope Smeagol gets used more often. I had actually thought of a name a couple of nights ago when I was falling asleep, but I couldn't remember it the next day. grr. nmlacoopers May 10th, 2005, 11:47 PM nmlacoopers I have pretty much the same car, except instead of the convenience package I went with the Sports package and eventually have to buy winter tires :)

Nice configuration and color choice if I say so myself ;).
I actually didn't get the sports package only because snow tires for 17s are really expensive. The Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires (awsome tires) I bought last fall for my previous car were $200/tire.
This is weird... The OL is still on scheduled, and the automated responce is still on paint shop yet an ASK MINI rep said it was released to the shipper on the 8th. I guess the updates are staggered. Adzy81 May 11th, 2005, 11:10 AM Though i would join in on the thread as i am 9 days away to gettin my baby
I went for the following
Mini Cooper Convertible
Astro Black

Red part leather interior
Tinted windows
Cd player
Radio boost
Chrome interior Exterior
17" Bullet Alloys (silver)

ONLY 9 DAYS TO GO!!! COME ON!!
i cant wait!
20th May is pick up day from D ick Lovett Swindon
So excited now! jetstar1 May 11th, 2005, 01:40 PM UGH!!
I called ASKMINI today, and the customer service rep told me that my car is still sked for Week 22 (sigh), and the delay is due to the Harmon Kardon fire issue!
Gee, I called ASKMINI last week, and the delay was blamed on my dealer's allocation. Now it's the Harmon Kardon problem. I wonder what the explanation will be next week! They'll probably tell me they ran out of Cool Blue paint.
I'm having a whole range of emotions (dismay, anger, fustration, depression, sorrow.) in one fell swoop right now. BobsWifesMini May 11th, 2005, 04:09 PM UGH!!

If you want to feel better, call back to ASK MINI and you may get a different answer.
I have 3 votes for good folks at ask-mini.
1.) Meg
2.) Todd
3.) Amber
My wife called this morning and got a guy with a New Jersey accent that told her they (ask mini) could only see the estimated completion date and whether it was in production!
I called right back and got Amber who said,
"you went into the body shop on Monday,
then the paint shop also on Monday,
Now you've completed assembly
and are in quality check.
expect to roll out the door on Thursday!"
So it just goes to show, you could get a different answer from a different representative!
I believe that some of the representatives only have a magic 8 ball there instead of a computer.
Question: Has production number 12345 entered the paint shop magic ball?
Answer: Don't count on it.
Wait a couple of hours, call back, if you get one of the 3 above, you might get a better answer. I've been told that they can't tell why there are any delays. If they say HK stereo, it's just a guess. Boondox May 11th, 2005, 05:15 PM Molly was also very helpful and a lot of fun! Micah was very helpful, but matter of fact about it. And there was an older sounding guy in Ohio who was very playful with the entire Mini experience. Wish I had gotten his name. jetstar1 May 11th, 2005, 10:59 PM Thanks for all of the support!
I feel like I have no concrete information on my car. I'm uneasy when ASKMINI says the car is "scheduled for production with no confirmed production date."
I'm usually a rational and calm person, but this process has thrown me. I have a production number, so I know there's going to be a car built for us.
Our dealer cautioned us about a possible delay because of Harmon Kardon, but they assured us that any snafu was built into their estimated schedule. I also understand the monthly dealer allocation process for Minis.
Right now, all I have now is an order form, a production number and air. When I have the date that the car is going to be welded together and start the production process, I'll feel better. Then this will all seem real to me.
I hope all of that makes sense. and I don't come across as a daft bat. nmlacoopers May 11th, 2005, 11:43 PM Thanks for all of the support!
