: On order jitters Boondox Apr 13th, 2005, 05:56 PM Since getting my production number two days ago I must have checked the status of my Liquid Yellow Mini every thirty minutes, and been disappointed each time to see it has not yet gone into production. I know this is unreasonable, but surely I can't be the only prospective new owner engaging in such nail biting behavior..?
Pete skrauze Apr 13th, 2005, 06:29 PM It's not just you! When I ordered mine, and even before I ordered it I couldn't sleep! I'd just lie there for ages thinking about it. Luckily I did stop obsessing after a couple of weeks, only for it to start again the few days before I went to pick it up! RenaultF1 Apr 13th, 2005, 07:42 PM It definitely isn't you.
You could do what a couple of my September shipmates did and call MINI at least once a week and get the exact status of what is going on (paint shop, etc.). I didn't do it, but that was only because I didn't know it was an option at that time. :D The Owners Lounge lags behind quite a bit...so if the status doesn't seem to change, don't worry about it.
...Then just wait until you know it is completed and it is waiting at the dock and it misses the boat it is originally scheduled on. :) And then the tracking across the ocean (and in my September group case...dodging all the major hurricanes - talk about nail biting. :) )
Enjoy...the whole process is just so interesting and so much fun... stchad Apr 14th, 2005, 04:45 AM I don't even have a production number yet and I have the jitters.........I go to sleep everynight dreaming of my mini!!!!! :( :yellow: am0eba Apr 14th, 2005, 12:17 PM It only gets worse when you're waiting for your ship to arrive! (Especially if your MINI is beeing shipped on one of the alternate lines vs. WW lines - very little info available during the cruise.)
Check out the various [month] Production Group threads for tips and hints on how to endure the waiting.
_Dave_ Kaelaria Apr 14th, 2005, 01:00 PM The online status is NOT accurate - it is behind by several days to a week or more. You must call ask-mini and go throught he automated query to get an actual status. By the time it says Scheduled for Production online, it is most likely already built and waiting for a ship. Automated query? I've not found that yet. Where do I find it?
Also, I know the Brits love their tea, but since I work at a gourmet coffee roaster here in New England I wondered where I might send a bribe of high test coffee to the workers on the Mini shop floor..?

Hey Pete,
Phone 1 866 ASK MINI (1-866-275-6464, for those of us who hate trying to convert the letters to numbers), then follow the prompts. (It's voice-responsive.)
Say "vehicle production status", then state your production code or the last 7 characters of your VIN. The very friendly recorded voice will give you amore-detailed, up-to-date report than the Owners Lounge website.
(I believe this is for US orders only.)
PS: For stealth in calling (i.e., where it might be embarrassing to be heard saying "vehicle production status" into your phone all day, you can press the #2 key before saying anything, and you can then proceed with inputting your responses via the phone buttons.
Also, if you would rather talk to a person, say if you want to confirm that all of your factory options have been correctly submitted by your dealer - they don't all show up in the order detail protion of the owner's lounge website - you can say "customer relations", and depending on the luck of the draw (or harmonic convergence, or something) you may get a very helpful person to hold your hand and make you feel much better about the whole process - or you may get someone who will answer your question, but not be very enthusiastic. I've had both, but the friendly, helpful ones seem to outnumber the others, so go for it!

Dave -- After a week of calling the 866# every thirty minutes and finding myself stuck in ready to produce, but without a date mode, I called and asked for customer relations, explained I was in the midst of a mid-life crisis, and asked if they had any additional information. Kari -- obviously one of the friendly, happy sorts you referred to -- cheerfully looked up some info and learned that my yellow Mini is scheduled to start production May 2.
So a week and a half on the assembly line, then more time to arrange shipping and get it to the US east coast, then transport to the dealer in upstate NY. I'm thinking the dealers mid-June estimate might have been overly optomistic. :(
