Well it is always interesting to read any Power tunes done on the MINI Diesel I thought I would give quick write up on mine.
Yesterday I drove down to Hampshire and visited West Tuning (from previously booking it in) at first I was unsure to what sort of set up there was going to be-the address sounds very Tasty “Unit 2 Thruxton Race circuit” and the Website is very nicely set out but anyone can or pay to have a Excellent Website set up. On arriving my doubts were not confirmed right thankfully. West tuning is set out next to the Racetrack with a number of other different units.
On arrival Ray came out and greeted myself, he explained what he does and how many cars he tunes there.
Next my car was put on a rolling road, from there it was tested to see what the Standard Bhp was. Bearing in mind every car is different-at time my car had 2450 odd miles on the clock and is running with 17inch Bullet wheels/Runflats-The result came back as 72bhp. Ray then explained in more detailed about what he was going to do and showed me various programmes on his Laptop, each car has it’s own specific programme-It all looked very complicating but he explained what it was and does to the car.
From there I was dropped off into town courtesy of West Tuning where I did bit of shopping-4 hours later was picked up and taken back to the garage to see what had been done.
Ray explained that he managed to tweak the car to 105bhp, but advised that the engine is still very tight and probably in another 10k will be much more improved. I took it for a test drive along the straight road leading onto the Units and straight away could notice the difference!!
The car pulls a lot better from 2k revs straight through up until just over 4k this is nice as when changing up a gear you will be in that powerband again and again!
It is also especially more noticeable whilst driving on dual carriage/motorways-it has a lot more omph to comfortably overtake now and find you can quite happily leave it in 6th as will pull just right. I found that I was looking at the Speedo and was doing 90 without even realising it.
Economy I think has been effected a little-I will confirm this after next re fill it’s not that much as I still did 167 miles on Quarter of a Tank. I have also noticed aswell that if you floor the pedal it does create a little bit of smoke, Ray said this was due to the Live by Wire accelerator but flooring the pedal does not make that much difference and the key is to accelerate smoothly and swiftly and use the Torque efficiently. Once getting back home onto familiar roads it is here I really noticed the difference as I could compare Speeds, Gears and Revs on my local roads-Within the limits of course :p
For anyone wanting to improve the MINI Diesel and give the car what it deserves for power rise and Cheaper running costs without going to a Cooper I would recommend most certainly :D

How much did it cost

ALD0

It is £581 including VAT-So not the cheapest of availble Tunes but don't forget though each car has it's own programme and Tuned and put on the rolling road for optimum efficiency :D

What happens if it need to go in for service/warranty work? Does this mean a return trip to have the car "detuned"?

I was waiting for someone to ask this!
I did ask aswell and was told it is not traceable-If the worst came to the worse it would have to be as you say de tuned but I presume he would still have the file of my programme for my car.

seriously considering this on my next one ? but want to get the new one rolling roaded with the milltek tunit and viper. would it be worth selling the tunit box and putting a bit more money towards the westtuning one.

wonder what the bhp with the milltek and west tunning would be .

does anybody elses kick black smoke out when you boot it?

So, this is just like a standard Superchips upgrade for any DTurbo then? :p

More info required about what was actually done for the money is required please ;) :red:

It is slightly different-Any car can be chipped, but every car is different which is why the car has it's own unique programme and tested on the rolling road to get it to optimum effiency-it's not just simply a plug and play system like many others out there.

i got my diesel remapped by Shires Tuning for £340 - they send the diagnostics off to germany and you wait about 1-2hrs for them to optimize your settings then they email it back to Jamie who uploads it. same power out as the West conversion - and Jamie says it too is invisible - only problem is if a technician drives it during service - they will tell the difference!!! Shires will reset and re-apply for free - aslong as you give him a bit of warning before you want it serviced!!!

Yeah I must admit I was thinking about going for them as I have seen them on Ebay a few times with various auctions, in the end opted for West Tuning as liked the idea of the car being put on a Rolling Road and I have also been reckomended by a few others to go here :)

Bad luck Interceptor - or maybe I was lucky - my MODD came out with 115 bhp/168 Lb ft torque. Had the car done @ 8,000m, so maybe the loosening up helped. Have now done 16k in total, v happy with the tuning.

I'm still happy with the result-As I mention I am running on 17's and the Bullets are a Heavy old Wheel as I know when I went from 15's to 17's the Economy did drop. Are you runing on 15's as in your MINI profile? :)

Ok-Had Rolling Road done today. The accuracy of the Rolling Road was Questionable as people expected abit more and in some cases read lower than when previously tested.
Anyway

Here is my Print out

99 Bhp with 164lbft Torque

MINIdrivers Diesel was also done and got 94 Bhp, interesting as he has a Panel filter and Aftermarket Exhaust system on?

yes, still pretty happy with 15's, although will swap to wider Goodyear Hydragrips when the current set's worn out. The only other mod I'm planning is a 22mm rear a/r bar.
