Hi all,

The title of the thread gives this one away..

Well I got my 1st 3 points about a month ago (mobile camera), & to make things worse I trecked down to cardiff @ the weekend to watch the footy & I think I may have been done again. The vehicle that contained the camera looked more like a mobile burger bar (do they not have to put a sign up to warn you of mobile cameras?). I know for a fact I won't be on my own, their will be a lot of rovers fans in the same boat!

Anyway enuff is enuff. Which is the best Snooper device to go for? I saw an advert on the telly for them so I presume they are legal? I have been looking on the site http://www.snooperuk.com/ & am considering the Snooper S3 Neo? What does everybody think? Is their a device that can detect mobile cameras more effectivley than any other? Which device is the 1 to go for do we think?

Thanks,

Dave, :)

I headed down to cardiff on the weekend also, I dont know the road number of the route I always take, Ross -> Monmouth -> Junction 24 roundabout at Newport, you can almost guarantee there will be a mobile camera van on the long straight downward stretch just leading up to the roundabout at Junction 24 of the M4. There are always signs all along the road.

I havent tried the snooper but Road Angel seems to work quite effectively and you definitely know there is a camera nearby !

I wouldn't even bother to go for 1 with RADAR/LASER detector-Just get a GPS device-The Neo hav Radar built in so if they come to banning them you will also lose the whole lot. So go for a Micro Road Pilot from Mikey the MINI at a cracking price-It does include a laser add on but can be removed :)

The law to ban laser detectors has run out of parliamentary time ;)

I have Road angel 2 and got done by a mobile sat on a bridge less than a week after having a works kit fitted. I find road angel very good for the fixed cameras but at £400 very expensive. The laser detection just didnt work fast enough (clocked doing 70 through a 50) and also I found that having such devices lulls you into a false sense of security thinking that your untouchable. I think just sticking within the law is my safest bet from now on unless theres a decent radar jammer on the market.

The best anti speeding device I have is when I have the Mrs in the passenger seat, every time I drive too fast she digs me in the ribs :D

i can recommend the Morpheus Micro Road pilot - GPS based speed camera detector. Ive not got the laser detector module as mine predated that version.

i use my tomtom3 PDA sat nav running updated POI's for camera location to advise me of any possible mobile sites.

unfortunately all the laser detector thing does is confirm that you've been clocked 'cos by the time you've seen the warning it's too late. I think your only hope is to be further back in the queue when it goes off. I've got the RA laser detector thing fixed permanently - it's gone off a couple of times but luckily I've not been at the front. :o

I got a call today off admiral insurance asking me if I wanted to be part of a new insurance trial. They fit a GPS device in the car and monitor your speed, providing you dont go over 10% of the limit for the area your in they give you a 30% discount on your premium!

Dont think I could stick to it though so dont think ill take them up on the offer :p

It makes you feel sick  . I was on the M4 briefly when I went to Cardiff. I h8 to think how much revenue they have made using these cameras. I am more confused than ever now about what snooping device 2 go for. Does the Road Angel ever fail with detecting mobile units? That would be the main thing I would need one for, not so bothered about Mr Gatso, Just the sneaky mobile units? This could well be 6 points for me now, I know the real answer is to stop speeding but I would like some extra security, so I need one of these devices. I heard that their could be a ban on the laser detectors, but the GPS are ok, is this true?

Mate, this is a notorious stretch for mobile cameras, mostly at the Newport end. My folks live in Langstone just outside of Newport and there is a raft of very unhappy campers who have been caught speeding on a what is usually an open stretch of road with clear visibility and very rarely any congestion - and most definitely not an accident black spot

Pure revenue generation and little to do with road safety!

PS Wiltshire are running a campaign at the moment so if you're travelling through that area look out for Dark Blue Honda Accords
PPS Hampshire use Dark Silver Skoda Octavias

Gutted!! If only I had known earlier. I can imagine the conversation in the local bobby station! "I know why don't we position ourselves on the A449, their will be a lot of new ppl to the area that we can make a fortune on!!!!!!" Gits!!!

Is that true? If so, it set's a very very worrying precedent!!

And what if you say 'no' to their trial. Do they assume that you regularly speed and therefore up your premium by 30% before informing the local police?!

Of course if you don't bother with Tax, MOT's and Insurance then you can drive as you like without penalty...

I noticed that a common factor in everyone's complaints is that it would be much easier to slow down and not speed in the first place. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's get real. :)

Cozzers - yes its true mate, you can get in touch with the team involved on the trial on 08004795151. Guy I spoke to was called Josh. I wish now I'd taken the time to ask more questions but I was at work so couldnt really.

I was most surprised they offered me the deal really considering I have an SP60 for getting caught at 109 :p

The road traffic bill is to ban radar & laser detectors - gps only will remain legal
The bill has rn out of time - it may now happen next year
laser detection s not to be relied on - I have used a laser gun they take half second to get your speed so you hope to pick up on scatter if they target a car ahead of you.
There is the option of laser 'remote controls' ..... ;)

You get away with it for so long over here but it seems to catch up with everyone eventually. I don't go superfast or anything but I just don't pay attention to my speed. Most the time I just drive whichever way I reckon suits the road I'm on, which admittedly is usually over 30mph. It's annoying because I know one day I'm probably going to get caught, but it being so unlikley makes it really difficult to abide. Most of my friends have points at this stage and they still speed. It's a stupid system
