: Mini One/Cooper Loopz Jun 5th, 2005, 01:07 PM What is the difference between the engines in the One model (90HP) and in the Cooper model (115HP)?
is there any difference in mechanical terms, or is the only difference in the engine softwer?
Thank you for all your replies :) ... mooneymini Jun 5th, 2005, 01:12 PM there are many differences, a big one is that the role bars in the one are not as strong or as thick as on the cooper, Ive been told the breaks are the same on all models, but you obviously have a difference in suspension also. Im sure there are a few other things too Wobert Jun 5th, 2005, 01:30 PM IIRC the engines fitted to the ONE & Cooper are identical bar engine software.

Robert LYD Jun 5th, 2005, 09:53 PM i was told they are exactly the same apart from the ecu programming...thats why when i had mine remapped i checked if i needed to change anythin like the brakes and they said it would be fine, although i had already changed my suspension....but thats what i was told anyway.. Paul Jun 6th, 2005, 01:33 PM In terms of JUST the engine, then the ECU programing is the difference, however there are other drivetrain, exhaust, and trim details, but just in terms of engine, it's the ECU only. martyn413 Jun 6th, 2005, 02:30 PM Hi There,
I have a mini one and it is lovely. I have been in a friends cooper and the only thing i noticed was the ride was a bit harder as he's got 17" wheels. I think both minis (one and cooper) have got 4 star crash rating. Mini one is alot cheaper to insure. mooneymini Jun 6th, 2005, 05:17 PM sorry about that, missed out a word.
I would have also hoped that the minis would have been 5* crash rated! they are full of airbags. martyn413 Jun 6th, 2005, 08:26 PM I think cars only get 5 * if they are more pedestrian friendly. KenL Jun 6th, 2005, 09:10 PM I think cars only get 5 * if they are more pedestrian friendly.
Don't think so, there is a pedestrian safety test just recently introduced but the 5* are for crash safety.
The MINI got 4* NCAP rating which is pretty good as I don't think any car as small as a MINI has 5*.
It a very strong small car but if someone hits you in a 2.7ton Discovery MINI or any other small car would come off worst :( Lawrothegreat Jun 6th, 2005, 09:10 PM There's a lot of discussion about the differences between the 'One' and the 'Cooper'. You can have a 'One' remapped to 115bhp; and both can be remapped to about 130bhp.
There's about £1500 difference (UK) between the two models when purchased new, and if you chip the 'One' to 115bhp, the difference is only just over £1000.
The Cooper's gear ratios are better optimised to the power band of the 115bhp version, than the One's - although it would be interesting to compare the performance of a chipped 'One' against a standard Cooper; just because the Cooper has shorter gear ratios doesn't mean it's quicker in real driving conditions.
If finances are stretched a chipped 'One' with its cheaper insurance is one route. Bear in mind however your insurance will be technically void, unless you declare the modification (you might not end up saving much), and the warranty on the car will also be void; although dealers apparently cannot detect the upgrade. I remain doubtful on the subject; if you experienced an engine problem - surely the dealer could download your ECU software without your knowledge and send it to some technical centre for evaluation.
It would also be interesting to compare the depreciation of a Mini One against a Mini Cooper over three years; if a Cooper holds its value better, then, if you can afford it its better to folk out the extra £1000+ for the Cooper over a chipped One.
But hey I'm boring! :D :D :D gorant Jun 9th, 2005, 07:46 PM How does a tuned Cooper feel on the street? Is the 15 BHP increase worth the effort and while on the subject, how much would this effort set one back?:) mendel williams Jun 10th, 2005, 03:49 PM :black: :black:
ONE GOES LIKE SH-T
