Coming from a life long association with motorbikes I have been used to acknowledging other bikers with a nod, a flash of the main beam or a wave of the hand. While on the Continent if a bike overtakes you they stick out their right leg as a hello or if coming toward you the middle and index figures of the left hand are pointed down toward the road.

What happens in MINI land

Wave, flash, peace sign, thumbs up, any or all in the states.

If I see an MC approaching from behind, I wraggle the wheel right before I downshift....

I wave enthusiastically or do the whole open hand static wave in the driver's side window or do the lifting of the hand that is on top of the steering wheel or do the "hey, was that a MINI?" neck crane or a thumb's up or the little finger and thumb thing or...

It's always the thumbs up in combination with a wooohooooo when I'm walking.

{...waves madly to the readers of this thread...}

Generally I wave. Sometimes if I'm in a particularly friendly mood I'll flash too. :D

I generally wave, but tend to be ignored these days... unless I'm out in the country.

Rather than flashing, which sometimes confuses other drivers as they think something is wrong, I either wave or put the sidelights on a few times. :D

a casual lift of the hand of the wheel is what i do most, unless its on the open road and then i use the lights :D

Flash and wave and hope for acknowledgement.
Curiously, I've never had anyone flash at me.

No other MINIs where I live. I flash and wave at VWs and Scions. Pretty sad really. ;)

I do wave, but being a relatively new Mini driver I have to be waved at first. In 3 weeks of having the Mini I have had 2 Mini drivers wave at me, a Liquid Yellow and an Electric Blue, both in MK.

On my way into work this morning, I waved at somebody driving a dark silver MCS. By the look on his face, I caught him totally by surprise :D and he returned a smile and stuggled to wave back....

I reckon from experience if you flash first from a distance to wake them up and then
wave as you get closer you have a much better chance of a wave back. So maybe
most people who don't wave back are just a bit slow.

Actually, if somebody (other than a MINI?) flashed their headlights at me, it usually means there's a radar trap ahead or something. So I don't usually flash my headlights in case I'm giving the wrong impression to all those conterfeit MINIs on the road.

i find i get a reply most times if i wave but i rarely get waved at first.

i was flashing a train yesterday morning  one of the regulars on here who lives near me is a train driver & he texted me to tell me he was on the early train which runs along side the road i was on :D

I wave.

What upsets me is when I see a MINI but don't notice it until it is just about past me and too late for me to wave. I'll make that futile quick hand raise and then realize that i missed it. Then I feel like the other MINI driver thinks I am one of those non-waver snobs. I hate that.

I wave or flash depending on my mood

termigni
Aug 23rd, 2005, 02:07 PM
depending on where my hand is.

if my both hands are on the steering wheel, I flash. if my one hand is hanging out the window, i wave. if i'm eating or something, i nod my head. if my neck hurts, i wink. if the other MINI driver looks like they're going to look away, I don't do anything.

depends on situation.
