Offline | Bathurst fun "drive" (no physical exercise required) Please see post 84 for the Schedule OK people. A couple of us in Canberra have been talking for a while about doing a run to Bathurst to sample some of the delightful roads around the Southern Highlands and from Sydney to Bathurst. Basically, the thinking to date has been that we would drive up to Sydney on a Saturday via Kangaroo Valley/Nowra, stay the night in Sydney then, leaving fairly early on Sunday morning to avoid traffic, venture out to Bathurst via the Bells line of road (which kind of takes you from Richmond to Lithgow bypassing Katoomba). After sampling some of the roads around Bathurst, we'd come back to Canberra in the late afternoon via Cowra and Yass. In order to reduce the endless banter that comes with not setting a date, I was thinking the weekend of 22-23 October. If you could give me an indication if you are interested in coming and I'll start a list at the bottom of this post. Any Pirates who would like to come along on either Saturday and/or Sunday are also more than welcome. ![]() Who's coming (or thinking of coming) 1. AndrewH 2. GOGADGET 3. meinamini 4. Mr minigolf and Mrs Camel 5. ScottyB (possible) 6. StuJones 7. Stumpmeister 8. aceman (meeting us in Bathurst) 9. Tit 10. MikeKom 11. Rampant Lion (possible) 12. Offline | Maybe the North Coasters could come via Putty Road and meet us at Richmond I was thinking of meeting up somewhere central like Ryde and leaving Sydney by 9:00 to 9:30 which would mean that we would get to Richmond by about 10:00 to 10:30. I'm more than happy to take advice about the timing from someone that has more knowledge about what the traffic is like to and through the Blue Mts on a Sunday morning. And, yeah, we could go through Blayney to get to Cowra Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |

Offline | Sounds damn good - but once again its a helluva stretch for us Northerners Especially the run home Sunday - ala the Canberra meet...Put me down as a maybe please - pending a bit more interest from Novocastrians/Coasties; that way I'm not falling asleep on the drive home ![]() I'm assuming we'd part company after 'sampling the roads around Bathurst' then? *wink* If so - do you have a rough idea what time we would aim to shoot off home? (Going by return after the ECT, I know I'm in for roughly 5.5 hours from Bathurst - pending traffic...) Offline | MSM Maps and Directions is saying roughly the same amount of time Bathurst to Canberra as Bathurst to Newcastle (4:30 B to C versus 4:15 B to N). Travelmate is saying 3:12 to Canberra and 4:18 to Newcastle but obviously Bathurst to Newcastle is a lot more dependent on traffic conditions. I would reckon that we would try to depart Bathurst at about 3:30 Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |

Offline | Traffic coming through the montains back to Sydney, either Bells Line or Great Western sux on Sunday afternoons. If you are going to do it I would suggest you leave a little later. Maybe around 5 so you hit the mid mountains about 6.15 ish... Just a thought. |

Offline | Mods, feel free to change the title to Bathurst fun drive or what ever else tickles your fancy Sorry, "fun run" was a bit of poor humour on my part - I'm far too lazy and sedentary to even contemplate the possibility of running anywhere ![]() Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |
