Australia Looking to Buy Cooper S

Hi guys we are after a Cooper S in either red / white or elctric blue/ white or black all over, the red and blue can have black roofs,

What year shall we avoid buying seen in another thread about early ones have more trouble etc, we have seen a 02/03 blue one going around for $29,999 private this car is mint and would love to purchase this, but we would like to buy from a dealer so we can trade the modern cars in on it

Is there anything we should be looking at, problems etc, fairly new to MINI's been a clasic Mini owners for years now time to have comfort and speed, test driven many in UK, seen the factory the lot, so I'm not a hater of the new MINI, I'm a classic car lover who wants more, wish we purchase the one we wanted in UK and shipped it over here, but theres a one car limited and we had choosen what we wanted

Also some specs we would like to see on car moon roof would be awesome, aero kits would be good as we are going to retro fit a JC kit (pending on finance) and seeing the feedback here has opened my eyes, I have a JCW kit fitted to my classic Mini so hence I want one the modern one too,

Wish we had ONE's here there cheap and cheerful and can be moded up like a S
All help appreciated

Welcome

The earlier models had a pull to the left problem, and there was also a stumble/yoyo problem. All of the problems should have been fixed under warranty by now.

I would probably buy from a dealer, and get a car with some remaining warranty so any minor problems can be fixed. But hopefully you won't have any problems anyway

Depending on the dealer, the pull left problem can be blamed on tyre wear and wheel alignment. That's what my dealer spoon fed me with...

Hey mate,

Welcome to the site...

For starters, I have not seen a MINI One that has been modded up to the S power out put without spending more money on it than buying an S in the first place.

There are a number of fairly good Cooper S examples for sale in Australia at quite reasonable prices. I take it you are keeping an eye on the online classifieds?

If you are interested in the JCW kit, I heard that it is getting hard to get them now that they are releasing the JCW pack from factory now... take this into consideration.

The only new MINI concept shown is the long wheel base version... hence why it would appear longer... might be worth holding out to have a look at what the new short wheel based version looks like before you go writing it off.

A lot of experts will tell you to wait for the new model

but remember expert; ex = has been, spurt = drip under pressure

there will always be a new model just a few years away but your life is passing by right now and you don't have a MINI get out and buy one now

Welcome charlie. Best to get the newest MINI you can afford I reckon, that probably goes without saying anwyay.

My MINI is an April 04 build and I have had no real problems. Some of the 02/03 build cars have had quite a few though. But, as with any car, it can be hit and miss. I know of two 02 build cars where one has been almost faultless, the other in for warranty work almost once a month since delivery.

Lucky these cars are a hoo to drive. Good luck with your search.

Cheers Liam

I was only joking. Plleeeseee no!!!...Don't start a war. Can't we just leave them blissfully unaware that a MINI can be driven round a corner above 30kms?
Ok then Mike, ill be hiding in the grandstand for this one.

I bought my 2001 MCS privately, with lots of options. 1.5 years and almost 30000kms later with no major hassles. Just the airbag warning light thingy and a dodgy auto-magic window motor. No regrets at all.

Like everyone's said, go get one!

PS - I'd sell ya mine, but I'm having too much fun driving it...

EB/W MCS Aerokit - 17" S-Spokes - Lapis Blue Leather - MFSW - ILP - VDO Gauges - 6-Stacker - Microwave Alarm (2mins on High does it every time) - Tint - Glovebox (it's an option?!?) Big Fat Cheesy Grin
