Smashed window :( anyone know the replacement cost?

Hi,

someone smashed my rear drivers side window..

im so down..

does anyone know how much it might cost to replace?

I've never gone through anything like this, should i get a dealer to fix it, or can a windcreens obrian fix it?

should i claim it on insurance?

Thanks guys, any help is appreciated.

(i'll attach a pic as soon as i figure out how to make it smaller in size)

I'd go to a windscreen place rather than the dealer

Not sure of the cost.

Some insurance policies have windscreen cover, I don't know how it relates to rear windows. If it doesn't, it may not be worth claiming it on insurance.

Good luck

Paid $157 inc GST for the passenger rear window from the dealer so I am guessing it's gonna be the same for yours. Windscreen O'Brien took $80 off me to fit it hope this helps.

I assume it is a side window... go to the poilce and get a report, then claim it on insurance... another mini2er had this happen a little while ago - Tigger perhaps? Maybe it was Dariyboy... cant remember.

Good to see you are still around!

PS. couldn't figure out how to attach a picture??

i've got a mac and i dont have picture editing software. just iPhoto (which is junk due to my outdated mac memory etc)

besides from that, my MINI is great! putting her in for a detailing shortly.. have to get all the wheel-spin induced black spots off the side skirts

Does not sound good, good luck with the window. But was it a smash and grab or did the windows break by other means?

i got my passenger window (front not rear) smashed a few weeks ago
windscreen o'brien came abd fixed it for $139 inc GST
so i dunno why the rear one would cost $300+? unless it's harder to fit or something?????
good luck with it all mate
and on the insurance thing, if ur excess costs more than the window then it's not worth getting it fixed that way....but in my case the b@$t@rd took my headunit as well so i claimed it....AND the cost to re-tint the damn thing....surprising how much a standard MINI headunit is worth...someone take a guess??

sad to hear and good luck with it all

wils

i got an exhaust because i wanted to make my car sound fast, but its not fast at all, so therefore i am a ricer....

I have the optional NRMA Windscreen Option which covers windscreen and all window glass (their wording, not mine) with no basic excess payable.
It costs an extra $50/year.
Maybe something worth looking into, as this window smashing crap looks to happening a bit more often.

thats awful to know idiots are around who have nothing better to do than pick on cars...

well i am rather sure that insurance policies that cover windsceen replacements are able to sort you out. because your side window can be defined as a windscreen as there is no clear definition for it trust me...i am sure this loop hole works, coz i remember a friend doing something like that :P

was there a reason your window was broken? anything taken? hope you are ok, and hope the idiot gets a broken leg or a serious case of long term intestinal discomfort... hehe

Your friendly on road pulse raiser...Guvnor

karma baby, what goes up must come down....hope when he broke the window a glass shard got lodged into him causing him to bleed continuously and him to catch some contagious disease because of it...as for the guy who racked my headunit as well...hmmm i won't say what i hope happens to him coz i'll be branded a pyscho

i wish Minis had more aftermarket parts,,, then they would be a lot cheaper then the prices that the dealer offers.

I must say I'm surprised how cheap that is.... I would have guessed about 5 times that.

good guess todd...but i wish i got that....haha it was actually $933

so even though i'd changed my headunit to pioneer dvd, i hadn't put it on my policy (stupid i know) so i only got the standard headunit money back....better than nothing but i found the price surprising...i only thought i'd get a few hundred back...guess ur more clued in than me hehe

Going OT again, some of those parts are amazingly cheap like that piece of glass for instance, it's even cheaper than a piece of comparable glass on a Honda Civic. Some other bits that were shocking is the piece of foam that covers the holes in front of the MCS bonnet hole - $180 for a piece of foam.....

quote from the MINI dealer is $157 for the part AND to fit it takes it to a total of approx $550-600!!

apparently there is a lot of labour involved because for the back window they need to bond it to the metal and the car needs to sit still for 24 hours..
