Hey all,

Just thought I'd have a go at getting all the Aussies in the chat room together to discuss Aussie Mini Issues. And have a Laugh.

All you have to do is be in the mini2 chat room from 7pm EST Wednesday night.

Hey all, I hope some of you guys are reading this and will poke your head in, Part of what makes MINI so succesful in other countries is that the like minded enthusiasts get together, Buying a Mini for my girlfriend and I is as much a social experience as a car buying one. So if you haven't already considered it, please do we'd love to meet y'all and since me and my other half, her dad and his other half will probably be driving from brisbane to the great Ocean road in Victoria we wouild love to catch up

With a new Cooper S to drive tomorrow what do you think the chances of me popping into a chat room is? Zero!!!! I would another time. Not tomorrow though. Yeah, I am very very keen to get together with other Mini owners. We did that with the TT. In fact I am turning up to the next TT drive day in 2 weekend time. But with a Cooper S this time. Hehehe.

Great idea Steve.

I tried getting in the other night, downloaded the plugin, entered the chat area, but all I get is Connecting... Unable to connect to server... etc.

Just tried it all again, same results. I'm not familiar with chat mechanics.

Any ideas?

Love to meet up with any one who is prepared to carry four adults all the way from the Gold Coast in a MINI. Is your luggage coming down on a truck?

Let us know when you'll be in Melb and we'll have a get-together, and make up a convoy.

Ok, I've been thinking about your problem with the chat thing a little. Following are a couple of possible solutions.

1.If you have a personal internet firewall like ZoneAlarm, or Black Ice, they probably won't let you use the chat area unless you tell them it's ok. My Zone Alarm asks me "Do you want to allow Internet Explorer to act as a server". If I say yes, chat works. So, you need to find out about that and allow a path through your firewall (switch prompting on). It could also be a router/switch doing the same thing.

2.The other possibility is that the JPilot thing doesn't work in your environment. In this case, do the following....
a) Download an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program. Some popular ones are MIRC and Visual IRC. http://www.tucows.com has dozens to choose from.
b) Once you have this up and running, it will ask for a nickname, and a server. Enter whatever name you like for your nick, and irc.gemonline.co.uk:6667 for the server. 6667 is the port. It may ask for that separately.
c) In the chat/command window type /join #mini2 Hopefully then you'll be in business.

3. If neither of the above work, hop a plane and fly up to Brisvagas and you can use my spare computer

Seriously though, try those things out and keep us posted. I'll do what I can to help, but this is about my level of knowledge on these toy computers. I'm used to using REAL (UNIX) computers.

Cool!!!

The missus and I already have a trip around Tasmania planned with a mate and his wife in their STI early next year. Don't see why we couldn't have a little run down the Great Ocean road while we're there.

Thanks for that Steve, I'll get the desktop boys to check it out today. I'm more of a UNIX type myself.

Steve, as this stage I cannot participate in any 'chat rooms'. My PC even at home goes through the work's network and out to the internet, and at this stage they won't let me do it unless I can justify it.

Apart from a convoy of original Coopers, there's not much else that would top a convoy of the new MINIs. Too many of us and it could be hard parking at some of the towns along the Great Ocean Road.

Still, I'm up for it.

sorry I missed the chat it was my 9 month anniversary with my other half and she would have made a mess of me if I spent the night online. stillI will be on again VV soon. Thanks all for your replies too, its good to see the Australians can make it work too.
