Just get hold of 21Blue's old bonnet and get a cast made so you can have a Carbon Fibre version made. That'll lighten the car up nicely. Probably save 20 Kilo's.

If you are travelling in the same direction as your wheels are pointing- You aren't trying hard enough.

Thats one way I guess haha. A couple companies in the states make them, VIS and one other. And you can pick one of those up for around $700, which is better than the $2000 quote of a bonnet from the dealer.

Then you just have to find someone that will ship it here!! You see the Carbon Fibre boots and bonnets on US E-Bay all the time, they just don't send to Australia!!

We have friends in the USA who would be more than happy with getting it shipped to them and they just hand it over to DHL. But its still a hassle unfortunately. I was amazed it took DHL 5 days (2 of which were the weekend) to ship an exhaust and 2 other boxes of goodies from the USA here.

5 days is pretty quick isn't it?

The best thing about having a friend in the US to ship things for you is that they can send things via USPS (US postal service) which is the equivalent of Australia Post. None of the vendors seem to give USPS as an option because they would rather just use UPS or DHL - must be easier for them for some reason. USPS is a fraction of the price and gets here just as fast!

Here's an example -

1 x pair of shoes sent via UPS to Australia = $US125
2 x pairs of exactly the same shoes + some other small parts sent via USPS to Australia = US$40.

They arrived in about 5 days and we saved just over US$200 (vendor wouldn't combine shipping on the shoes and was going to send both pairs separately at US$125 each).

While I'm complaining about postage costs from the US, have I told you all about the time I ordered some parts from Outmotoring ....

The vendors ship via USPS for me. I just say that is who I want to use and if they want the sale that is who they have to ship with. I even got a Cylinder shipped via USPS, they are alot cheaper and take about the same time to get here.

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Outmotoring in November last year when I got my R56. They charged me $188.65 for postage which I thought was pretty expensive at the time.

What really p*ssed me off was when the package arrived and I read the USPS dispatch note which was with the package. Outmotoring only paid $82.99 to send my stuff including all postage and fees etc ... but they still charged me $188.65. They made a bigger profit on sending the stuff than they did on the actual items!!!!

I guess they can charge what ever they want at the end of the day as they are obviously trying to make a profit for their business. But what they need to remember is that f***ing people over like that means that people like me will tell this story to every other MINI owner I come across. What ever you want to buy from Outmotoring can be sourced from somewhere else in the US - I strongly urge you not to do business with these dishonest people Charles.

...yes I'm still bitter about this Steve, but I feel better about it everytime I tell this story

Hahaha, wow, we spent about $1,200 with Moss Mini and it costed around $200 to ship an exhaust, air intake and a box of silicon tubes, lights and pedals. All up 3 boxes and for it to come in 5 days was pretty fast.

I just get my jollies hearing the poison each time. I will never forget how ****ed you were when they never turned up at AMVIV and you missed a F2F opportunity.
Maybe the 2009 AMVIV we will get them.... or is there sales outlet on the quadrangle route? That would be sweet and i wanna be there!

Well after our 3 week tour of northern Australia I only saw 2 minis. One in Mossman (DAMINI) and a renter cooperCab in Port Douglas. It seems there aren't too many around outside of the south east corner (yes i haven't forgotten you Brett)

Anyone here watch "A farmer wants a wife" on tv last night. One of the girls had a nice little Mini Cooper S. Sorta looked out of place in the country on a farm. But I know which girl he should pick haha.

Nothing wrong with a country mini. Fresh air for its supercharger. although you do get some weird looks when the dealers pull out hay and grass out of the filter box

4 sale aye. I do admit finding hay in the filter box would be funny haha. And you would bottom out quite a bit.

I looked at getting outmotoring to send some stuff over and when I questioned postage the response was very short and not very helpful - I have since found someone else to deliver what I was after... I am still looking for the tint to cover the reflectors on the wheel arches - has anyone here found this product elsewhere?

Anyhoo - I will drop a shameless plug here for ClubMINI - I cant believe the quality and the professionalism of the flyer for the show n shine event that is coming up. You will have to count in my beast there too btw. Last year when I attended I was waiting for my MINI as it was being processed through customs. This show and shine will double as a first birthday for the beast

Do the Aussie Minis have them now? They have them in the USA but I didn't know they have them on the new ones here. I swear I have seen the tint on a website, ill go look.

QuickBrick is sending me a copy of the flyer to stick on peoples windshields. This show looks like a lot of fun.

Sorry to cause confusion... it wasnt the tinting for the reflectors on the wheel arches.. It was something else - I just need to remember what it was

The new aussie MINIs dont have the reflectors on the arches (now that I think of it). it was another product at outmotoring that didnt seem to pop up anywhere else?? I am thinking that it may have been the led tail lights for the R56 - will check it and get back to the post....
