that gave me a laugh, as silly as that joke was haha

Im glad the rain is easing up, there is a sound off at Autobarn in Capalaba tonight, wouldn't be good in the wet with all those cars outside. Have to do some last minute mods and start cleaning the Mini for next weekend

Of course, why didn't I think of that. It's clearly something to do with mph vs kph - so you need to use a conversion factor of 2/3. That would mean my AU160hp is really US240hp.

I'm happy again now

I'm thinking maybe we should have a "Virtual Dyno" at the ClubMINI Show & Shine. Steve & I could just look at everyones car and then attribute a Kilowatt figure based on what mods have been done. Probably be just as accurate as the MINI Muster Dyno

I have now downloaded Dynolicious onto my Iphone, so it should be good for working out HP, so long as we know reasonably accurate weights of the cars being tested. It is supposed to be within 1% accuracy with the systems they use in the USA so we might be able to get some readings "American Style".

Incidentally QB, i saw that post on NAM where the guy was claiming 200HP in Malta. I replied to his post and he said that the figures he was quoting were flywheel corrected calculations that the dyno "computer" had made.... Interesting...If you go back to the post you will see his response after my question.

If you are travelling in the same direction as your wheels are pointing- You aren't trying hard enough.

That explains it then I guess.

Anyone know what the correction factor would be to convert whp to flywheel hp? I'm guessing it must be around 5/4 ???

He said 20% as well. Can't say for sure but Mini would know.

From what I have heard expect anywhere around 15 to 20 % reduction from fly to wheel, but thats on the R50 and usually holds for the R53.

With the show and shine next weekend I am so up for a "AMVIV parade" along the river. I can fake a break down/ flat tyre long enough for 50 minis to pull out.

Every car will be different. It depends on the drivetrain losses, wheel diameter, wheel weight, tyre pressure, tyre grip/drag, etc. So the only way to accurately know is for the dyno to measure it on wind down. Then when you have that figure you add it to wheel hp. If you use a percentage of wheel HP then it is only a guess (unless it was measured as a percent on run down).

Isnt the answer always 42? (ok - taking a light hearted approach here...)

I am sure there are plenty of fudge factors out there, or they might be called "adjustments" or "finessing"... ok if anyone out there understands transport modelling you will know what I mean (ie there isnt one right answer - just many answers with different justifications...)

So how is everyone going with the cleaning of their MINIs? Mine needs some serious work.. (thats what Saturday morning is for I guess)

Actually there are three standards for HP. DIN (German), SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers - US), and JIT (Japan something or another).

I don't know whether that has any relevance on Gregs car being beaten by a guy on a push bike...

Mine is my DD so I will do most of the cleaning on the weekend. It got a clean this past saturday, but just to see me through. Here is my list of things to do.

Friday arvo/night:
Vacuum insides, windex all interior glass, clean leather, wipe off all interior panels etc, add air freshner , clean dash and pedals

Saturday:
Wash car, wax it twice, detail spray to get anything i miss, remove wheels, clean inside of arches + springs, clean and polish wheels, armor all on he black trim, polish all exterior chrome, jack car up and clean exhaust pipe (scrape the burnt plastic off it), windex on exterior windows. Watch tv.

Yes I have no life

What time should we get to the wharf to get in position? And how meticulous are these judges going to be?

PM Sent!

It's still not too late for anyone to enter the Show & Shine!!!!!

If any one else is interested in joining us please PM me and I will send you the details. As I just said to Nix in my PM, it doesn't matter if you don't have the time to polish your MINI within an inch of its life (like Ben is planning). The main thing is that we get as many MINIs onto the wharf as possible.

What's the most MINIs you have seen in one spot at one time? I promise you we will blow that out of the water on Sunday. We all know that there aren't that many MINIs on the road, so trying to get 50 MINIs to a show & shine is no easy feat. Please PM me if you are a possibility for Sunday as we are determined to set the record this year and it is promissing to be a great morning

Show is at Portside Wharf, Hamilton and starts at 9am but entrants need to be there from 8am to give us time to setup.

Gregg

Yet another reason to come to the ClubMINI Show & Shine - We will be launching the 2008 clubMINI apparel range

Yes that's right, the full range of ClubMINI gear will be available for sale. Including Caps; Guys & Girls shirts and jackets.

And like Sambo pointed out, if you join clubMINI in 2008 (or renew your membership) you get a free clubMINI cap, redeemable when you come along to a club run or activity Just come to the clubMINI tent on Sunday.
