For all you who have not read your clubMINI emails (and for any SE Qld MINI owners that are not yet members) - the details for tommow's BBQ and backyard cricket match at Somerset Dam are as follows:
Meet at 10.00 for a 10.30am departure from Finsbury Park at the dead end end of Finsbury Street Newmarket.
Then up over Mt Glorius and down to The Spit picnic ground at Somerset Dam (arriving about midday).
It is a BYO everything affair - lunch, drinks, hats, sunscreen, etc. (Partners optional )
swamos is providing the cricket gear, so don't get him upset or he might take his bat and balls and go home
If you can't make the start of the drive and want to come out later, then head up Mt Glorius and all the way down the other side , turn right at the T intersection towards Somerset, turn right again at the next T intersection, again toward Somerset, and then about 4.5km later turn right into The Spit picnic ground - it couldn't be simpler. Then look for MINIs
For anyone heading from the Kilcoy end, it is about 25km from there and signed on the left. If you get to the township of Somerset, you have gone a few km to far.
Hope to see as many there as possible.
BTW, it might be an idea to put some drinking water in, just in case the water tanks at the dam are low.
One last thing - don't forget to put petrol in your MINI. The last fuel before the dam are the BP and Mobil at The Gap. On the way home, there is fuel available at Kilcoy, about 25 km further on.
Gee Swamos, were they a special set of stumps which you pulled out for when you were batting - it looks like you conveniently trimmed them down with the drop-saw before you left home
Managed to improve my times from the first outing, though only slightly. Gary, Ken & I were by far the quickest in our group - we went off first and found ourselves catching the tailenders by the second or third lap in some rounds so it was a little hard to get clean/fast laps in.
By the end of the day time was running short so we combined with another group for the last couple of runs so the problem of traffic only got worse (ask Gary about the guy in the Skyline who just wouldn't let him past ). I owe my improved times to my better approach into turn#6, which I seemed to perfect somewhere between rounds 3 & 4 when a black piece of rubber deposited itself right at the perfect turn-in point for the MCS. I used that piece of rubber as my marker for when to make the turn for the last corner and found that it gave me the perfect line
.....It was only later we found out that the piece of shredded rubber I was using as my entry-marker was actually Ken's power-steering belt
Unfortunately, said power steering belt also is water pump, super charger and air-con belt Meant I couldn't drive around the circuit with the air-con on
Strangely enough, Black Betty was booked in for tomorrow week for a new belt.
