Hey guys and gals.. was talking to a friend of mine with a gsx1000 yesterday and he said he heard a mini driver was killed on sunday up around Putty or OPH.. dont know if a) this is correct or b)if it was a new or classic mini.. he said he heard the guy was talking on his phone and smashed into the rock face beside the road.. again i stress i dont know this for sure but just wanted to check if anyone had hear anything.. fingers crossed its not true

I read in the sunday papers that a young driver was in a critical condition after hitting a tree near Brooklyn.

As there are no trees on the F3, Avril and I surmised it was on OPH

That was Sunday...

It must have been after we all went through, but it's hard to believe it would've been a MINI. Would like to know more info though.

I am almost sure, but not a 100%, that when I initially heard it on the news it mentioned he was driving a 4WD. And being in the afternoon, it would have been long after our group were on the OPH.

Just got back from pits.it was indeed a new mini.the dude from pits sed it was about 3
in the arvo on sunday.for those that know the road the car went into the bush on the way
down the hill just after olivers garage as u come to the over taking lanes the cars gone
straight ahead into a tree.a nasty mess.be careful out there folks.

Holy crap - any more details as to what colour MINI etc?? Is it likely to be anyone we may know? That is NOT good at all

And for the car to just go straight ahead instead of taking the corner - doesn't that sound a bit bizzare? Did something fail?? And why have others managed to flip their MINIs and roll their MINIs and then walk away with hardly a scratch? Yikes........

Most of the Pirates were on the Putty run at 3 o clock Sunday. I doubt very much it would be someone that goes to Pirates. Lets hope not.

There is a write up of it on page 4 of the local paper (the sun weekly). Man driver, 36 flown to westmead in critical condition by NRMA careflight.

Pics in paper look either EB or PS. Plate says JC***H?

Think it might be JCW-00H that hangs out at the road warriors. Sound warning to everyone cause that dude has been out there every other weekend for as long as I can remember.

It should serve as a reminder to everyone that the mini is not bulletproof or idiotproof

Head injuries suck too!! I remember when I was Nursing - and ended up being a patient - we were on the same ward as repatriation. There was this young guy who used to wander into our area and you had to turn him around and head him back in the right direction. He had been a vibrant young man until being in a serious car accident, which had resulted in head injuries that landed him back at a mental age of about 2 years old, I kid you not!!! He was virtually doomed to wandering around in a zombie like state for life

What a waste

His poor family too

The memory of that young guy has never left me. I even remember his name.

And after my little 'understeer' wobbly last week

, I will be taking it a lot easier too!!

Also with double demerit points these holidays, it is just too easy to lose your license in one fell swoop!!

I went down the OPH last Sunday (on the way to work) at about 8am, not a single car to be seen - both ways, only a heap of bikes.

Hope everyone is ok - I hate that corner where it happened.

I used to work for a Private Hospital group, and one of our hospitals was the Victorian Rehabilitation Centre where car accident victims are sent. LOTS of ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) patients there, most of who were males in their 20's. Incredibly depressing place, and REALLY makes you think about the way you drive...
