Offline | The last three entries there are factory teams. Robbo mentioned this to a few of us at the clubMINI 1st birthday recently. ![]() Interested to see they're in JCWs, I thought they may have snuck in some GP test mules. ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Hi, Not long to go now The car is all prepped and ready to go. My car and Stu's get picked up this Wednesday to be transported down, and we fly down on Saturday The factory mini team is an interesting development. We understand that they are running JCW cars, with JCW suspension, brakes etc, plus some motorsport bits out of the JCW challenge. Tim Leahey and Grant Denyer are both very experienced circuit racers, although with little tarmac rally experience (Denyer did the touring category in East Coast Targa 2004). Mike Sinclair is a motoring journalist. The navigators they are using are all top notch, and compete in the ARC etc, so they should be looking at a good result. However, Grant Denyer may not be competing, due to committments with "Dancing with the Stars" I don't know about you, but if I had the offer of driving a factory prepared car in Targa Tasmania, I would do my utmost to make sure I got voted of the show pronto Iain Sherrin is no longer competing which is a big disappointment. He has consistently been the fastest mini in every rally and circuit race he has been in. He came 30/120 in Targa in 2004, including several top 10 finishes on wet stages. He certainly would have taken it up to the factory teams I'm just happy to be competing, and want to do as well as possible, but at the same time not risk my car or risk injuring myself or my navigator. Hopefully I can improve on last year (48/112). Competition this years looks stronger than ever, with factory backed teams from Suburu, Mazda, Mini, Hyundai and Porsche. Here are a few pics of the car prepped and ready to go ![]() Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | IMHO I do find it a bit disappointing that MINI Australia can't actually find a little extra to support the guys who have been out there using their MINI's on the track and in Targas for the last 3 years. I think 3 factory cars is a bit excessive, me thinks they should have had 2 factory cars and spent the extra on supporting those people who use their own. Yes it is good advertising to get new customers, but i think a little bit of effort to help existing customers would go a long way in regards to goodwill... You know that thing called GOODWILL.... That word that seems to have been struck out of ALL corporations allowable vocabulary.. OK, i;m off my soapbox now ![]() The original SWORKS |

Offline | Hi, Unfortunately that is just the way it is, and I don't hold any grudges It's not just mini. In 2004 Tony Sullen won Targa in a Suburu WRX that he leased for the event. He got absolutely zero support from Suburu. They said they had no interest in the event. Strangely enough, this year Suburu has entered a factory car, driven by pro rally driver Dean Herridge. Last year we asked for some very basic support from mini, eg making sure they had certain parts in stock in Tassie (windscreen etc) and giving us the after hours numbers for someone with access to parts in Hobart and Launceston in case we had any problems. Initially they refused point blank Eventually, after the intervention of Sean Ticehurst, they did give us some contact phone numbers, and offered us the use of the workshop in Hobart if we needed it Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Hi Robbo I've been off the air of late due to poor health, but must be feeling better as i just started reading MINI2, was thinking about you guys heading down to Targa shortly, so let me take the opprotunity to wish all participants and especially our clubMINI members and associate members (Sherrin's) a safe and quick time. I take it that Iain's car is still too bunged up for him to compete, a real shame as i think he would have show up the factory team. (I wonder if they are behind all this ) Any way have a truly safe time, we will arrange another Oaks Hotel welcome home party for you guys like last year. Also noted the interest in a Wakefield Day so I'll see what I can organise in a month or two. BTW, keep your eye out Robbo for some top notch spots for clubMINI to visit duing its 14 day tour of Tassie next February. Vic ![]() |

Offline | Vic we don't want him running off the road because he is looking for "top notch spots", instead of watching the road at over 110km/h. Good luck, have a great time to all the mini competitors. |
