Stupid thieves....

Ok, its not as bad as it sounds.... but i am still kinda bummed about it...

Yesterday i came home from work to find that i had been burgled.... first time for everything hey ??

The noticable things gone include dvd players, laptops, camera gear and the usual good stuff for resale, then a and a few of my beloved (and fairly rare) guitars that you wont see anywhere else... so wont be hard to track IF they turn up at a hock shop.. (im not holding my breath.... more trying to work out if i can replace them... and its not looking pretty for Mr NRMA).

But one thing they took - and i still cant work out what the motives are behind it - or for that matter if there is anything i can do about it....

THEY TOOK MY SPARE MINI KEY !!!

So - is there anything i can do or is it a just hope they lose interest?? The police have been told - but suprisingly they werent that interested in keeping 24/7 surveylance on my car !

Hello and bad luck about the break in - hopefully Mr NRMA will come to the party.

I sorry to hear that.

They've defo got eyes on your Mini so if you have another mode of transport I'd take it to the dealership and ask if they'll keep it in their lock up. Mention what happened to the insurance company and see about getting the locks changed. Don't wait until something happens, it is not worth the risk imo.

Thats not good to hear bout the MINI keey. I would suggest if you have a second car, park it behind the MINI.

Hope NRMA aren't a pain in the **** and they help out. Good luck.

That's got to give you the creeps. If it were me I'd be sleeping in my Mini. Have a mate whose parents have always had exotics. Got broken into and lost the spare keys. The thieves came back and tried to steal a rare Porsche etc.

That doesn't beat when I heard about some thieves that just took some DVDs and videos, then took a block of cheese from the fridge and an unopened box of laundry powder! I guess even thieves need to eat and wash clothes....

I'm really sorry to hear that. Sounds like the thieves have got good taste and have their eye on your MINI...

It's probabaly worth changing the locks before they try to steal it, but I doubt if NRMA will agree to pay for it tho... they usually don't do anything until something has happened.

I believe you should be able to claim the cost of replacing the locks on your car on your house insurance.

OMG!! What a shocker. Hope it all gets sorted real quick and that the locks get changed in light speed time.

So sorry to hear about the break-in I would definitely be getting the locks changed on your MINI - with that key they could come back at any time and take your car

Oddly enough I just finished renewing our contents policy online with NRMA. And then the first post I find is this! Yikes.

Don't be surprised at how you feel once the shock has worn off. A few years ago, Nick came home from work unexpectedly and interrupted a break-in (not the place we are in now). They had placed a chair or something against the front door. They heard Nick and took off without anything - the place was a real mess as they rummaged through stuff looking for valuables. Even though we didn't lose anything, we still felt really angry and violated We were in a first floor apartment, so they had somehow got onto the balcony and through our son's bedroom sliding door (which was usually locked).

When they take irreplacable rare items such as in your case, it must be even worse B*r*t*r*s - I hope they catch them!

Sorry to hear. I'd definately get the keys changed on your MINI. They are clearly waiting for you to come home It won't be cheap... but you'll always wonder otherwise

Bad news about the break-in

As each key is separately encoded with it's own unique set of rolling code tables, you can actually go to your Mini dealer and ask them to cancel the stolen key's access from the cars onboard computer (take the remaining keys with you so they don't cancel the wrong one ) This won't stop them unlocking your car manually but it will stop them starting it and is a quick and cheap interim measure

Sorry to read Mullet

Hope something comes up with your personal belongings. Burglers should have their hands cut off

As for the MINI keys! I know that all the locks can be changed as have read someone do this on here. The change is not cheap so a ring to your local dealer may give you some idea.

Fingers crossed you get this sorted and keep us posted.

But it is annoying that some pr1ck has been in your personal space
The Police got a great set of finger prints on the glass of the windows, though

Hope your situation get sorted Mr Mullet

Sorry to read this

As others have said, I would get the locks replaced in the insurance claim. Even if the key gets decoded, they can still get in the car, and push it on to a truck etc

I would be surprised if the NRMA were opposed to this plan.
