How Many MINI's in OZ?

Does anyone know how many MINI's have been sold in Australia since the new model arrived in 2002?

I think last I heard about 5000... roughly divided by population and state. Nichola could help you with that

thanks Steve

Nicola is playing with MINI's today and tomorrow at a race track with comparos with other hot hatches so I can't get this info before next monday off her and that is a little late for the project i am working on. Mike Clark thought it was around 6000 so if i quote 5,500 we should be pretty close unless anyone else has more accurate figures.

There's been a slow-down in mini sales all over the world over March and April according to Motoringfile. We are less than half-way through the year, and that would approximately correlate with the sales in the first few years...

I think it's increased competition. I was thinking about this yesterday. I made this post in Aussie Banter but I think everyone was so whipped up about the state of origin they missed it, so here it is again...

I was reading a article in wheels this month about hatch warfare, and it made me start thinking. The amount of competition in this segment has gone crazy this year. Lets list off what was available when we ordered our MINI in 2001.

-MINI
-Subaru WRX
-Renault Clio Sport

What is available now though?

-MINI Cooper 30k S 39k 42.5k
-Golf GTI 40k
-Polo GTI 27k
-Focus XR5 36k
-HSV Astra Turbo 43k
-Mazda 3 MPS 40k
-Sub WRX 41k
-Renault Clio Sport 33k and 34.5k

I've just listed off the cars I think are comparable... ie ones I'd like to drive. Have I forgotten anything?

That is a lot of competition for the same bunch of people. I'm going to go on the record here and suggest that when the new MINI arrives in March next year MINI will use the opportunity to either reduce prices, or upspec. Thoughts ??

Having just parted with 65K+ for a MINI i have to tell you i wouldn't purchase any of those cars listed by Steve even at 20k less, you don't buy a MINI because of price you buy it because its a MINI With only 350K on the clock thus far I'm still not fully utilising the power, but i have to tell you that it is street's ahead in refinement and power from my 2003 JCW, can't wait to get it on the open road somewhere! And it still turns heads wherever i go, can't see a Clio or Astra doing that

The MINI will still be turning heads in many years to come.

It will never stop, its just the way it is.

I totally agree with your sentiments Vic, after having spent the same sort of money.

I don't think you have forgetten anything Steve as I don't think anything, including those on your list, is comparable to the MINI. If it wasn't for the MINI I would probably drive a Hyundai Getz

Funny you should mention that Poki, a friend of mine asked why I didn't buy a Swift instead and save all that money. Some people just don't get it
