OMG - he needs some serious 'loving'!!! You'd better try and get a wash in before the end of next week or it might not happen again until next secret santa!! Yeah, only way to do it right, is to do it yourself.

Well today my lovely MCS went into the shop

But hopefully she will come out looking all new and have her rust surgically removed.

Went to the bodyshop and saw a Hyundai Getz outside, urm thought that would be my replacment car for the week

But no out comes a shiny new 2006 MC in my fav colour CR.........

Yeah I say to myself only to get in and ARGH its a CVT...................

Oh well I have all week to get used to it! Lets hope the amount of time they are taking to sort it reflects on the quality of the work.

Will post pics when my yellow fun bubble returns on Fri.

Good news Ruth. I have to go into the Lorimer St repairers where yours will be tomorrow hopefully to argue with them about that dodgy job they did on my bonnet .

Thanks for the offer of help the other day too, it was really appreciated

I've had one as a loan car... feels like a slipping clutch, very odd to drive.

that's interesting, like a slipping clutch....at least it'd be smooth then, if not a bit down on power

No problem, couldn't believe it was you...............only saw the oputline of a mini and those numbers you have on the side. Andy said I was imagining things as it was quite dark. How is your mini?

CVT very weird. Not a lover of the old auto. Find the paddle shift quite fun though. Didn't put a manual in the car so didn't quiet know how it was supposed to work at first. ( only second auto have driven!)

Miss the power mainly, the cooper engine plus the CVT lacks a lot of grunt so doesn't cut through morning traffic as I would like!

But well specced and is nice to have a mini at least...............

Oh and thanks for the info on Lorimer St makes me feel a whole lot better!!!!

All better now, just needed to screw some stuff back in and she was all good .

The guy at Lorimer St I had trouble with is gone now, the new guy seems alright... we'll see.

My car is home!!!!!!

I have pictures of the work they have done.

It appears that the offending metal has been sanded down and repainted!

Well there is a shock.................Nothing less nothing more! Will be putting a liberal coat of grease on I think!

It does appear that the paint is thicker than before but nothing else has changed.

Oh well the rust has gone at least! When I pulled the strip, guess what.......water came dripping out. Looks like the fact that she is nice and shiny comes at a price!!!!!!

Anyhow had a quick peek under the strip of the CVT guess what no difference, no extra filling or anything so in three years or so that is going to have the exact same problem. Come on BMW SORT IT OUT!!!!!!

On the positive side. I had no problems, no fuss about getting a replacement car, no probs picking it up. No questions, no signing for anything. And friendly service from my dealer. So an enjoyable if avoidable conclusion.

Anyhow see pics.........

has anybody had any further results from BMW?
I have a little surface rust in the leading edge of the weld line under the door rubbers but am unsure if I can get the BMW guys to tackle it as I bought second hand from an outside dealer.

You get a 6 year rust warranty, and its transferable. Just book it in snapper.

this is going to be a major embarrassment IMO. I had mine fixed in april, and its back already. (or at least the paint is blistering)

I love Warsaw. Where else can you hug a pole?

If you have any information, any information at all, please contact me as I'm writing an encyclopaedia.

That is good you got your rust fixed

I am 'still waiting to hear back from head office as to how or if they are going to fix it.'

id say it is about the 4 month mark that they are still thinking about it.

sigh...time to get back on the phone again

Hi, checked my cooper S the other day and found a few spots of very light surface rust, also very wet and dirty in the weather strip. As I was cleaning it out I recalled my Dad used to do the same thing to the family truckster many years ago back in the UK .....so I gave him a call and he gave me a good tip. Take off the strip give every thing a good clean, let it dry then wipe a good smeare of grease along the edge of the sill / body work before popping the rubber strip back on. He used to do it evey 6 months or so, he swears it stopped the rust bug. I did it, only took a few mins cheap to do and easy to clean off if you have to have work done, unlike silicon or mastic sealers which the nice BMW people could use as a excuse to void your warranty.
I will check it out again in a few weeks and report back......... : )

Snapper , you could have got BMW to look at it when you had your very cheap 80,000 service done . Or could have mention it to them !!! as BMW are always clad to help you out , and will always get back to you when they say they will !!!!!!!!!!

I did mention it when I had the service done. The sales guy gave me the look of ("really? well I have never heard of that problem before. I'll take a look at it when you have gone away. NOT" )

I will be continuing to bring the matter up each time I drop in though. Thankfully that is not often.
