Not only that, they (BMW) need to investigate why the water is remaining there in the first place, (what seal/s is/are failing) and seeing if they can prevent it - otherwise, it is going to be a trouble spot for the rest of the car's life

Check the photo link in my previous post, to see where it is - I have no idea re the body kit, but would imagine the trim would be the same?

I checked the minster this morning and it was as wet as a very wet thing that has an extra special reason to be wet. Doh!. No iron oxide thankfuly. Gave it wipe with a cloth then used a screwdriver to clean out the door rubber. Let them both dry then put them back together with some rust inhibitor. Its been at least a week since the minster got wet and it was wet as. I went and told the local bmw dealer and they are going to check the cars now when they give them a wash. Bit of a worry this one. Group buy on a 44 gallon drum of automotive bodyfiller might be on the cards.

Just checked, SMURFN has a couple of small patches of rust on the driver's side but none on the passenger side.

This is bad news, but as my 11/02 MCS is going to be traded next month on my NEW Hyper Blue MCS with JCW I will ask Klosters if they can remove the trim at the dealers pre delivery and apply some fish oil to both door seals. I have though noticed some water weeping from the seal drain holes after washing. This could get bigger than Ben Hur. I'm glad we don't have salt thrown on the road every time a frost warning is given as is the case in the UK. This seems to be a design flaw as the area is not drying out.

"Take it to BMW Bodyshop so they can take some photos and send it in for warranty assessment"

Just checked my own car, and oh joy, I HAVE RUST!

There's long stretches along the length of the seal where the rubber has rubbed through the paint, and is just a little surface rust, so will fix it up this weekend. No evidence of moisture tho.

Got to say thanks to all for letting us know. Without Mini2 would have had no idea that my car was (very, very) slowly being eaten away!!

How dissapointing.

Looks like another problem to add to the never ending list related to Mini's - i wonder what BMW is going to do about this.

I hope there isnt rust developing somewhere else on the mini which we havent discovered yet.

Oh No!!! Poor ol Supermini is afflicted with the car cancer too. Both sides but drivers door is the worst. One bit is like paper, very flaky. I could nearly cry. Of couse i have already rung my dealership, waiting for the official response.

Children too!

Just checked my 6 month old baby, and she's got a few little obvious non-BRG patches (very small) on the lip of the metal edge. - completely dry though.
It would seem that the paint job along the edges of the metal isn't particularly good. This probably isn't helped by the fact that the metal edge is very raggard and not cut cleanly.

Long post but I can summarise it - for those who bought their MINI used not from a BMW/MINI dealer, you're pretty much stuffed.

Long version:
Surprise surprise, the Greendevil got it as well. So Trivett got an earful from me...

First, spoke to one of the new service consultant that don't have a clue about rust warranties so she forward the call to Frank otherwise known as the fat turd (don't ask me how I come to hate him...) that don't give a flying fluke about anything unless I bow down and lube my rear end for his entry.

Started asking me how I got my car (used) is it through a dealer (from a fellow member) and was the car brought brand new from them (Dwyers) and pretty much he said I am on my own. He said the only thing I could do is to drag Carl (the original owner) to chase it up with Dwyers but I argued in the warranty booklet, it doesn't state this warranty is null and void even if the vehicle has another owner down the line. He told me to sholve it somewhere and likewise, I told him the same thing. Well then he said if I bought my car from a MINI dealer and if the vehicle comes with the MINI NEXT warranty then I'll be covered.

I felt like calling BMW and start abusing someone there. Should I? Frank will be calling me tomorrow for sure I've just sent a fax to his boss complaining about him lol.

That's garbage, the warranty is fully transferable That kind of response really makes you wonder about how committed BMW Australia are to building their brands and corporate image doesn't it
