That's what I thought too - fully transferable.

I'll try speak to Dwyers tomorrow and see what they say. If no one is coughing up the bill, I'll just pull out the last bit of rust converter that was for my old Minis, fish oil and the rest of the works to fix it.

Evan try calling those melbourne dudes on that number i gave u.

Well ive yet to check my car, theres a good chance theres rust there to be honest. My warranty expired on Sunday, tho i did buy my car from BMW Sylvannia.

Im waiting to see the results of others who have spoken to their dealers and see what happens.

Ann,
Can you keep me posted on your dealerships response, I have a few very minor spots.
Easy for me to fix, but if it is covered Id rather the dealership take care of it

Just went out outside and had a look at the stuooz mobile...all appears to be ok, no sign of rust...but will take another look in the morning when the light is better just to make sure

Surprise surprise, the Greendevil got it as well. So Trivett got an earful from me...

First, spoke to one of the new service consultant that don't have a clue about rust warranties so she forward the call to Frank otherwise known as the fat turd (don't ask me how I come to hate him...) that don't give a flying fluke about anything unless I bow down and lube my rear end for his entry.

Started asking me how I got my car (used) is it through a dealer (from a fellow member) and was the car brought brand new from them (Dwyers) and pretty much he said I am on my own. He said the only thing I could do is to drag Carl (the original owner) to chase it up with Dwyers but I argued in the warranty booklet, it doesn't state this warranty is null and void even if the vehicle has another owner down the line. He told me to sholve it somewhere and likewise, I told him the same thing. Well then he said if I bought my car from a MINI dealer and if the vehicle comes with the MINI NEXT warranty then I'll be covered.

I felt like calling BMW and start abusing someone there. Should I? Frank will be calling me tomorrow for sure I've just sent a fax to his boss complaining about him lol.

The are wrong... the 6 year corrosion warranty is transferrable.

The only thing in question is whether the rust is covered as it isn't a painted surface (although clearly it should have been).

Hi,

I just had a look at both of my cars, and thankfully there is no rust

One thing I noticed a long time ago was that a lot of water gets trapped at the lower margins of the doors, and in the region of the shiny lower door sill and the rubber seal when washing the car. The seems to be a particular problem if using a pressure washer or direct hosing at the lower margin of the door. The first few times I washed my car I noticed when I opened the door that there was water and suds dripping from around the lower door seal. Since then I got into the habit of opening the door and using the chamois to wipe water away from the lower door margin and the shiny door sill after washing the car. Maybe that has helped

BTW I haven't noticed the same accumulation of water in this region after driving in the wet. It only seems to occur after washing this region with a hose.

Cheers

Robbo

the service guy I spoke to made some comment about it only being cosmetic possibly.... my fairly terse response to that was along the lines of it being cosmetic now, but what about in 3 years time?

The way I see it is, if that particular seal works well or the paint was put on properly then no dirt or water will get in there to wear the paint out and cause rust there. If it's being exposed then another story.

Yes, it isn't as if this particular area is exposed to the elements Whether it is cosmetic or not - it's freaking RUST - and the stuff grows!! I really hope I don't get such a nonchalant response tomorrow when I take "Megan" in to be looked at - I will NOT be impressed. Rust is rust - whether it is a small spot or not - the bloody stuff doesn't just sit there and look pretty - it gets worse - and if there is a design fault that results in water staying there and not draining properly - then a solution needs to be found to prevent rust from occurring in the first place!

I am one of those who, when washing a car, always opens the doors to clean inside of the doors and along the edges, and dries any water away from that area - I will be stuffed if I am going to lift the trim every time I wash the car to dry under there too That's a bit much!! (even for a clean freak like me).

I have a letter ready to go to BMW as soon as I have spoken to the dealer about this. They need to know there are a lot of people who have discovered this problem with their MINI, and should start looking for a way to deal with this issue.

Thanks for showing me the potential problem Avril. After our run on Sunday I put the car in the garage opened the doors and lifted the rubbers out and gave the whole area a dry out over night. The next morning after cleaning the sills, I sprayed some ENOX into the joins of the body and inside the rubbers to dispell any remaining moisture. This stuff is supposed to also protect the area and prevent more rust appearing. With that said I still will take the car down to the dealer for a full inspection during the week.
As with everybody else, I would be very interested in learning what BMW will do in response to your alert.

Cheers,
Pete

I'm afraid treating the problem is a **really** bad idea if you want MINI to act on the fault. I say again... leave it as is. It's been there for x years, another week won't kill it

Have you got the rust under the bonnet where the paint wears off against the rubber seal around the radiator??

Well, IMHO BMW will say nothing and deny everything. Their opinion is that it's only a small number of owners that have any issues at all with their MINIS. And even then, everyone is a happy customer. I hope I'm proven wrong and that they reply by issuing a general recall on all years and models to sort this issue out.

If they don't take any notice, I will just get everyone who has the problem to give me their details and I will send the list into BMW - they are going to hate MINI2 and other such forums by the time we have finished with them

The trouble with going through clubMINI is they may threaten to withdraw any support Better to approach them as a bunch of individuals.

It's like what support do they provide anyway? Take the Targa for example, a bunch of dedicated individuals needed help, representing the marquee but the Works team aka BMW Aust wouldn't give a stuff!

I think I'll go and start screaming at Trivett tomorrow for their misinformation and Frank's utter turd like arrogance.
