Offline | Looks like there might be a potential rust problem on Minis that we'll need to keep an eye on http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...ad.php?t=69139 Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |

Offline | Bu99er!!! Thanks for the 'heads up' Andrew. I followed the link and had a read, then I went straight outside, followed by Nick and Liam - and checked my car, as it is an 08/02 build. Sure enough - rust under the trim on the driver's side door ![]() NOT HAPPY JAN!!! ![]() Checked the passenger side also, but that seems to be okay - so far.NOT GOOD ![]() Will be talking to Alto Artarmon about this at the same time as having the airbag light looked at again.May I suggest that anyone with an 02 build, especially, goes and checks this out. The trim is very easy to lift up, and replace again. Well worth checking!! |

Offline | I think one of the posts pointed out that the area they were in didn't use a lot of salt on the road for ice, but he still had the problem I have an awful feeling that Micky D might be right - it could grow legs ![]() |

| Renovate me! | Shall I start linking in the articles on how-to s for welding and rust removal ? Do I sense a keeness to take to take to a MINI with a welder?? Fear not, for rust is lighter than metal, therefore with less weight you can go actually faster!! Think of it as natures own random carbon fibre mods. ![]() ![]() ==== Waht hapens if you use the spel chek button==== |

Offline | I spoke to Matthew at Alto Artarmon today and am taking my car in on Monday to have the airbag light issue looked at, along with the rust issue on the driver's side door. I will let you know what happens. Swamos - I asked Matthew about the airbag light - and whether it meant the system had been deactivated or not. He said that as it hasn't been tested out, he advises everyone that the system may not activate and to assume that it won't work. However, there are some who believe that in the event of an accident they will all go off, instead of the specific ones needed. So, I guess, what he is essentially saying, is err on the side of caution. Like he said, he wouldn't want to be the first one to test this out!! I think BMW should take this issue seriously and do some of their own testing!! If, in fact, we are driving around with an inactivated airbag system, due to a design/manufacturer fault - then the car is not 'suitable for purpose' and it needs to be rectified, once and for all, ASAP!!! |

Offline | We checked John G's car today, and he has as well. His car is a 2005 model - not good ![]() ![]() Me thinks MINI dealers all over the country are going to be having MINI owners taking their MINI in for the rust problem to be sorted! |

Offline | Alto's Artarmon are completely useless in my experience. they replaced a clutch and a supercharger trying to fix a noisy air con. they jammed visible ugly bits of foam in my windscreen trying to stop the dashbaord from rattling - and left greasy handprints all over the screen, and a boot print on the seat. find another dealer before your car explodes.I love Warsaw. Where else can you hug a pole? ![]() If you have any information, any information at all, please contact me as I'm writing an encyclopaedia. |
