brake pad recommendations

Hi everyone..

i'm new here and own a MCS 03 model. I find that the OEM brake pads give out way too much dust for my liking and i have done a search and most answer ive found seem to be in other countries. i would like to get some opinions and recommendations from various members on here who can give me some suggestions as to what pads i can be looking at. i am after something that gives less dust compared to OEM but wudnt want to sacrifice the braking performance. i wouldnt be attending any track days at all or if so it would be rarely such as once a yr or something like that. Also would most likely be just a pad upgrade on stock rotors so not after something harsh that would chew away my rotors
Thanks in advance. sorry for the lengthy post.

so all you want is less dust, better braking performance, not harsh on your rotors, and easily available in Australia.

good luck.

In all honesty, thats not asking for much! That should be the bare minimum of brake pads.

If it is brake dust that is your only problem, another suggestion is to put wax on your rims everytime you wash your car - the brake dust comes off easily and doesn't eat into the clear coat.

Or do what Grizzly did - buy anthracite coloured rims, as it doesn't show up at all and you don't have to clean your wheels

If you want better brake pads, apparently you can't go past the Ferodo DS2500's (which you only really need to put on the front brakes anyway).

Hawk HPS should fit the bill if they're available in your neck of the woods.

wow cool ... a few varied answers ...

noob - i have read some good and bad comments on ebc greenstuff pads such as some people rate them to be poorer than the stock oem pad ? thats was like one of my concern regarding ebc greenstuff ... but i might give that a go

"megan" - what wax can you apply to the wheels ??, oh and whats anthracite rims ? sorry, im new to this. how much will i roughly be looking at for the ferodo ds2500 ?

cristo - the hawk hps pads ... any good ? r u using them on ur mini ?? how do u rate them ?
how much will the pads set me back ?

Sorry mate, maybe my sarcasm wasn't working.

Basically, brake performance and dust goes hand in hand (possibly noise as well..referring to the Galfer) until some mad scientist discover the unobtainium they need for the pads. Put a layer of wax on the rims (your normal ones will do, there's special wheel wax if you're anal about cleanliness of your car) might be the only solution. Or don't brake as often might help, too.

I've had the Hawk HPS pads and Powerslot Cryo rotors on my MINI for over 5,000 miles now.
Stopping power is as good as stock cold, and better than stock warm.
The dust is lighter in color, and less tenacious to the wheels. I'm cleaning my wheels a
whole lot less often than with the stock pads, and the dust that's there is a lot easier to remove.. They're said to be fairly easy on the rotors. This will be hard to tell for me, as the
powerslot cryo rotors are supposed to last longer than stock as well.

Have used both the Hawks and the EBC Greens. I'd agree with cristo the Hawks are very good and less dust than stock. The Greens have the least dust and braking power is a good as stock, so if dust is your main concern, the Greens may be the way to go. Don't know about cost and availability in AUS.

Daily driver, I'm running EBC Green's on plain Cryo treated rotors < no holes or slots.
Alot less dust and they work pretty good when you need them, better than stock.
I agree with dukesantos on the Greens performance.

My next set will be either Akebono Street Performance Pads or Hawk Performance Ceramic Brake Pads both are low dust.

FWIW I put EBC green on my mini with the standard discs and I had heaps of troubles with them warping the standard rotors, and generally not stopping. It wasn't worth it and I went back to the dusty standard pads and could stop again They may work with special rotors, but they didn't work for me on the standard rotors.
