Offline | 2007 Hay MINI Nationals Hi all, For those that aren't aware, for the last 40 years there has been an annual pilgrimage to Hay, NSW, of MINI owners from across Australia over the June long weekend. The modern format of the event includes a Show & Shine on Saturday, and a dirt Motorkhana on Sunday, as well as lots of social get togethers in between. The supp regs and entry form are now available at Mini Club of South Australia Inc. along with other info (it's run by the Mini Club of SA even though it's in NSW - although all states help out with some officials on the day). The competition is open to any members of a CAMS affiliated Mini Club (so it's open to Vic and NSW clubMINI members). The Show & Shine is open to everyone. Hope to see a few of you there (although accommodation may be a bit difficult). Dave. ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Just one more sleep!!! The entry list went up last night on the Mini Club of South Australia Inc. under the Hay mini Nationals section. With final entries closing on Saturday night they already have 71 entries in 40 different cars (multiple entries are allowed in each car) - including one from clubMINI Vic. So from here I won't be checking the forum until early next week. For all that make it - see you there! ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Why don't they hold the dirt Motorkhana on the Saturday and the Show'n'Shine on the Sunday - that would really test the skills for Show'n'Shine and prevent people from cheating and getting their car professionally detailed Give them the morning to clean it, with a cut off time of midday - and the afternoon for judging ![]() Sorry, just me being a bit 'evil' :P :P Hope it is a great weekend for all who attend. |

Offline | Got back late last night and still haven't made it home to read emails and stuff. Overall it was good - although this is my 5th year, it was the first time anyone from ClubMINI was there, and it was well received - only thing is they want more people from ClubMINI next year. I came 26th out of 96 entries in the moorkhana, and it was a tight result. I was 7 seconds behind first place Greg "Doogie" Dobson (in a classic MCS), 3 seconds off the fastest BMW MINI, and 3/10ths of a second off winning a class trophy. I also made it into the finals of Hay Heroes (a head to head knockout style straight slalom), but lost to Craig Williams in his MCS. 5 years and still no trophy! But at least this year I had the car set up really well - it handled the bumps easily, and towards the end of the morning's run at the tests I'd found alot more front end grip and the car was a pleasure to drive. I was just too rusty, being 3 years since I'd last driven on dirt. Anyway, hope to see more new Minis out there in 2008. Dave. ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Well done Dave, Some year I hope to get to Hay. Good to see you are laying the foundations for future MINI competitors. Just one question: From the entry list issued last week I noticed that Craig Williams was entered twice; once in a Moke and also in a Jem. Having the use of a Jem, I was interested to see how he would have gone on the rough stuff (the Jem is very light and normally they are set up to be low). However it looks like Craig was back in his MINI CS for 2007? Cheers,, Dave |

Offline | It gets complicated from here... 1. In the motorkhana a competitor can only enter in one vehicle, however there can be up to 5 competitors in the same vehicle. 2. In Hay Heroes, a competitor can only enter in one vehicle, and there can be only one competitor per vehicle, but it can be a different car to the one that they did the motorkhana in (other than having to be a Mini). Soooooooo, what happened here is the Craig Williams we all know from Targa Tassie and other events entered his Moke in the motorkhana, and his BMW MCS in Hay Heroes. HOWEVER to keep everyone on their toes along came Craig Williams, who is a regular co-driver in a Triumph in the Classic Adelaide Rally (no relation to Craig Williams that I know of) who entered the motorkhana in a Mini Jem but didn't enter Hay Heroes. Hope that's confused the lot of you! ![]() Just think of my surprise when I was the Results Manager for an event last year where Craig Williams co-drove for Craig Williams in Craig's BMW Mini Cooper!!! ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Thanks Dave, I understand now Having two Craig Williams....in the same event......that's coincidence... but then having one of them drive two cars....must have made results interesting. Do you remember how the Jem went? I would have thought the ground would have been too bumpy for it to perform at its best. They are fantastic on bitumen (weigh just over 400kg). Dave |

Offline | I honestly can't remember. It looked fast, but that's no measure of the stop watch. Seemed to cope ok. The only place where it cut up was on test 5 at two of the pegs, but there was enough room to keep clear of the ruts if you kept it tight in to the pegs. Full credit to Ian Lugsdin, the ground was almost billiard table smooth. ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | You know more than I do, and I was there!Haven't had time to post pics since it took until midnight last night (or this morning??) to fix my broadband modem, but will put some up. I'm a bit disappointed at the photos of the younger Modified mini Car Club guys getting a little too wasted there. It doesn't reflect what it was like, a very family oriented and sociable weekend where the odd beer or 10 is consumed but everyone is friendly and well behaved. I guess us older ones were just smart enough to avoid the cameras! ![]() ![]() Feb 02 R50 |
