Offline | Motorline MINI have had a specials weekend. Turns out the day I rocked up to buy mine they were having a 'special' - not sure if that contributed to the price I paid for mine or not, as I really didn't shop around a great deal. |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | When you have a car that sells faster than you can make them you don't need to really. Also BMW/MINI don't stock pile cars like a lot of other manufacturers do so at any one time there is very little stock needing to be sold. Most MINI's and BMW's are made to order. Ford et al make large batches of the same car and store them in fields. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| Whatev. | It is a part of the whole exclusive/luxury market thing - for example mercedes or lexus don't do the discount thing either. Also, MINIs pretty much sell themselves, why put them on special when people are lining up to pay full price? It also protects your trade in value somewhat. Swings and roundabouts. ![]() |

Offline | As Root Ginger eluded to the clerance specials you refer to are generally for in stock cars plated for the previous calendar year (eg 2006 compliance plate). So, in effect you'd be buying a 1 year old car even though it's, theoretically, a brand new car. Fine if you wish to keep the car for a few years, but if you turn around in 18 months and expect to get a good trade in, even from the same dealer, they'll be telling you the car is 12 months older than it really is, simply because of the compliance plate. Kind of like race horses share their birthdays on 1 August, a car's birthday is always 1 Januray, no matter if it was built the day before. ![]() |

Offline | Because you don't need to have specials on what everyone wants! - It's just that for those that can't ignore the good angel on their shoulder and give in to responsible car purchasing the specials that other cars go for might seem pretty tempting. He he - I would rather push the upper limits of car/finance constraints than compromise and regret buying an elaborate shopping trolley. ![]() |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | This isn't true in the UK though as we have two registrations a year, one in March and one in September. This was to stop the boom and bust in sales when new registrations used to be in August. What used to happen is you'd sell 75% of your years trade in one month and have to survive on that money for the rest of the year. One mistake could put you out of business. The 6 month registrations have had a great effect on spreading sales across the year. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

Offline | I guess you get the gist of it by now to see that something that you may have to wait four month to arrive doesnt need to be discounted. In saying that we did receive a small discount (ie less than $1000) when we shopped around. In regards to either Motorline or Brisbane BMW both are now fine. Its just up to you who you have the most repall with so its worth a visit to both dealers. Sometimes they may have a car on the floor thats exactly what you are looking for and you can even drive away and not have to wait 3-4 months!! |

Offline | Yeah, that affect isn't as strong in Australia, partly due to our different states having different registration plates and so on. So it's not quite so easy to date a car by it's number plate. The point I'm making is if you have a 12/06 build date on your car and, for whatever reason, you need to trade it in now, you'll be told you have a 1 year old car. |

Offline | That happened to me with my first car which had a plate for December but the first time it was registered was April the following year. When I traded it in on my next car the dealer told me straight out that he was deducting $2000 because is was from the year before. If the car had a plate for January then I would have got an extra $2000 at trade in!! |
