Hi there everyone,

I've got two xenon spare headlights but the thing is i don't know what year model they might be from so im wondering if any of you other mini owners could tell me if any of these headlamps match your car, if so could you tell me roughly a year model or manufacture date?

Any part numbers on them?

Should be of the form 6312696nnnn where nnnn is 4 numbers

Hmmm... they are both post facelift (ie. post 04/07 build). As to the difference between the two I couldn't tell you. Whereabouts did you get the lights from?

one possibility is that one is off a LHD car, and one of a RHD car, headlight beam patterns vary depending on which side of the road you drive on. Some headlights have a switch in the back to change it, don't know if this applies to the new style xenons or not.

My Jan06 built MCS has the matt chrome ones on both sides if that helps.

LHD xenons:

DON'T use LHD xenons in Australia, you'll dazzle the crap out of oncoming drivers.

I've actually looked at the back of the headlights and figured they are RHD from Micky_D's info.

But from some replies i'm guess the right headlight i have is older than the one in the left image? would that be correct? (refer to image)

Anyhows which headlight to you guys and girls think is better looking? i guess only fussy people will take notice of detail but im i just after personal opinions

From your top image, mine is the same as the one on the right side of the image - ie with the matt chrome finish.

I have a feeling that the polished chrome finish one may be older. There was a brief period of about a month or so after the release of the face lifted R53 in 2004 where the new style xenons had a different part number. The part was discontinued and replaced with a new part number after about a month of production. As mine has the matt chrome finish, I'm guessing that the old part was the polished chrome one. You might just have a very rare polished chrome xenon there

I reckon our old skool ones are, at least, as good as the projector style xenons at night though.

My '55 plate Park lane has the ones marked L on your secdong pic above (the 'matt' chrome pic)

Just checked. I have an 09/04 build, and the xenons are the matt finish on both sides.

Haha, I'd never want to accuse a mini owner of not knowing their mini like the back of their own hand but I think the pictures in your own gallery would seem to suggest that you have the matt chrome finish head lights not the polished chrome ones - unless of course they are of someone else’s car

Top of the class Detective Andrew. I had ridden my bike to work that day and thought from memory I had it right. Well, 50/50 odds have rarely gone in my favor and yes, I was wrong. I should have referred to my own photos shouldn't I? Let me now state categorically, I have the other light to what I said.

That would be the frosted finish.
