I miss sitting down on a Sunday night at 8:30 to watch Top Gear!
It really sets you up for the week!
Monday night isn't quite the same.
As for lost and 24........they are just not comparable!
Nothing is which is why it so good! The humour and the political incorrectness.
Many have tried to copy but all have failed!
It is funny to see certain lesser programs try to copy.....even down to chatting and discussing cars in the pub! Even if it is the highest form of flattery!
Vicki Butler Henderson and Tiff Needell were presenters of Top Gear before The BBC canned it. It was brought back a few years later in it's current format. Jeremy Clarkson was the only presenter from the original show.
Fifth Gear is getting better but it's no match for Top Gear. Watching Tiff's driving is a treat though.
I remember, I used to watch it then too, but if I remember correctly the then presenters, Tiff, Quintein (excuse my lack of spelling) and Jeremy didn't get on so well when it all fell apart!
And I was watching an episode recently where there were comparing some cars, can't remeber what, and they couldn't decide which was better, so they went to a Pub and had beer to discuss, very much like the guys on top gear did on several occasions.
I don't know how old the episode of fifth gear was as I was watching it on UKTV and they don't tell you when it was from!!! Quite annoying really.
Unfortunately in my part of melbourne, we have no access to broadband! Which considering I live in a suburb less than 20 mins from the city is quite bad!
I can't really get away with watching Top Gear at work! Even if my boss is more nutty about it than me!
I believe you met up with the mad michael on Sat Night!
He was slightly tired when he arrived back in Melbourne yesterday!
TBH I never remember hearing that Tiff, Quentin and Jeremy didn't get on, although I can imagine a clash between Q and J.
As I remember it was a popular show that the BBC just decided to cancel as they were trying to move away from the old BBC image. I seem to remember there were reports that it was cancelled due to the the perception that the show encouraged speeding and bad driving. This was at the height of the modified car scene in the UK where cruises and street racing used to happen every weekend across the country and magazines like Max Power had their highest reader figures.
There was a huge backlash though as The Beeb had nothing to replace TG and as a public broadcast company they should of had a motoring programme. As such it was relaunched a year later in a completely new format that, ironically considering some of the reasons it was supposed to have been cancelled, was even more about fast cars, power slides and blowing things up.
Completely un-PC and just what the public wanted. Even after Hammonds crash, when they could of cancelled it again, the overwhelming public support it generated meant the BBC couldn't afford the backlash all over again.
