Sorry to hear that bugiz, but...

Good to see that windscreens being prone to cracks has carried through to the R56.

MINI ownership should make having an insurance policy with windscreen coverage compulsory.

Yep

The upright angle means that any objject hurtling towards it will have a bigger impact, instead of glancing off. I've got through 3 screens in 4 years.

I pay extra every year to be insured by BMW insurance, and I reckon it's worth every cent.

4 months ago I was stupid enough to leave my Tom tom in my car. I came out at lunchtime and it had leapt off the dashboard and smashed through the drivers window. I hate it when that happens. So I called my dealer. 1 hour later a flat-bed truck turned up and took my car away. 2 days later they dropped it back to me with a new tom-tom in it and GENUINE PARTS installed.

No Real Mechanics Available is not worth the money in my view.

I love Warsaw. Where else can you hug a pole?

Yeah, I've been on a good run of late, but in the first two years of ownership I had to replace my windscreen twice.

The current screen has been in for about 12 months or so I guess, so let's see how long this one lasts.

Top drivers side corner of mine has delaminated. Waiting for a stone chip big enough to claim on insurance - all the big rocks have barely left a scratch so far (despite 2 big dents in the bodywork thanks to following Porsches with hot sticky tyres - they were holdimg me up and that's my story and I'm sticking with it!).

Same just happened to me driving home from work yesterday! I called the dealer - $545 canadian to replace and my insurance doesn't cover the first $300.

Thanks guys for the reply.. so the best way to react to this is get an insurance policy that cover windscreens and should I get it laminated?
If so where?

bugiz , your windscreen is already laminated, & the new one's are already laminated as well .
The laminate is in between two pieces of glass that makes up a windscreen . They are a flat piece of glass & is heated to form the shape of a new windscreen .

What Micky said. You get what you pay for.

BMW insurance has excess free glass cover but your premiums will be higher.

D'oh, sorry to hear 'bout your 'screen Bugiz.
Ironic really though, the same time you were getting your 'screen cracked, i like a fool kerbed my front wheel on a gutter.
I am shattered, stoopidly drove into a gutter. Now i have a unique racing stripe around 1/6 of my rim. D'oh again.

I changed the MINI's insurance from AAMI to Shannons and the difference in premium was, coincidentally, about the same as a cost of a replacement windscreen.

Our GTI is with Suncorp Metway, they offer windscreen coverage along with new for old replacement for the first two years.

All fix.. and the total cost at Kingsway was $995..
Funny but not suprising really was that the labour was more than the cost of the parts.. sigh..

Hahaha, I've got my car insured with BMW insurance with the windscreen cover. Anyway, on the weekend, I got a pretty sizable stone chip so I called them to see if they covered repairs as opposed to replacements.

Me: "I've got my car insured with you guys and I got a reasonable stone chip in the windscreen on the weekend am I covered for windscreen repairs too?"
Guy: "Only if it has penetrated into the second layer of glass"
Me: "So what your saying is that you don't cover repairs, just replacements?"
Guy: : "Yes"
Me: "So in other words, I should leave it until it cracks a lot more so you will then have to replace it?"
Guy: "I strongly suggest that you don't"
Me: "But you see my logic don't you? It's a lot cheaper for me if I just leave it and let it get worse so you replace it for free rather than me having to pay to get it repaired"
Guy: "I can't advise you that that's the right option to choose"
Me: "That's fine, I'll just leave it until it cracks some more then you can replace it at significantly more cost to you but at no cost to me"

While I’ve found that the insurance premiums with BMW are pretty competitive, they’re certainly not the sharpest tools in the box. In fact, I would strongly advise people dealing with them to take careful and detailed notes as they have a tendency to forget to do things like update bank account details

Ok, so they say that you SHOULDN'T let it get worse before YOU fix it, but they WILL let it get worse before THEY fix it.

Mr Oracle, do you know how to spell hypocritical?
